Story
My friends here at HOPE named me Oak because I was shaky and quivery like a leaf when I came here. That was a week ago, and I'm already opening up and developing some confidence. They tell me I will be solid like my namesake before too long. I had a bit of a rough start. I came from a bit of a dog hoarding situation. At least that's what my friend here says. All I know is that I lived with a lot of dogs, and I didn't go outside very often. When I got here I balked at doors. I didn't want to go out or in. I would drop to the ground and shake. But when I would see my hooman sitting on the ground, I would crawl to her for a hug. Now I am going through doors like a champ! I love to hang out in the lobby here. There are a lot of cats, and sometimes they scare me a bit, but I just leave them alone. They don't want to be friends, so I stay close to my favorite hoomans instead. I totally think I should be a lap dog, especially when they are trying to type. For some reason they put my front paws back on the ground and tell me "off." I don't think I like "off." On is a much better place to be! Update: I was adopted, but now I am back at HOPE. I have gained lots of confidence, but I still adore people. I am a bit dog selective, so if there is another dog in the home, it needs to be the right dog. And it upsets me when children cry. I tend to jump on them. So perhaps I would do better in a home with older children.

Story
Hey there! My name is Shyia. I’m all about a good time. I have energy like crack is my main staple, so if you ask if I’m ready to go, well I was born ready… Let me tell you how I got here. A rescue irresponsibly adopted me out to a family when I was just a wee thing with another puppy. Well, they didn’t have a fenced yard for me to get my zoomies out and no one wanted to take me walking, so I just had all this energy I didn’t know what to do with. So my partner and I went off for training. When I graduated and went home, I showed off all my new skills, but things didn’t really change as far as getting to exercise, so I got sent back to school. Then the family decided they only wanted to keep my partner and didn’t want me. So I’ve been hanging out, going on adventures and learning stuff. I can carry a back pack and love to go hiking. I’m a bit better at settling down, but still have energy out the wazoo. I’m just built that way. Now I’m told there’s the perfect family out there that just likes to go, just like me! So I’m thinking that’s all I’m really asking for, is a place to call my own. And maybe a few pig ears. Maybe you want to let me grace you with my presence, hang out…If you do, here’s my agents number: 816-433-7549 I’ll be waiting!

Story
He's a very happy puppy that loves to play. He has always immediately made friends with anyone that visits family or otherwise. He tends to play rough with others but will stop if things get to be too much. We are hoping he can go to a home that will be able to play with him and let him run around. He needs attention and love and will be quick to return it twice over.

Story
Kona was rescued when she was 3-4 and we’ve had her for 4 years. We have worked with a couple different trainers to help her not be dog reactive. We have had several issues lately between her and our other female pit bull, Piper, and need to rehome Kona before one of them seriously hurts the other one. Kona is very smart, well trained and knows all the usual commands. She is a great dog on her own but struggles around other dogs. This is heartbreaking for us because she’s so funny and playful and loving but we can’t risk her and Piper hurting each other anymore.
