Story
Hi there, I’m Dexter! I’m smart and affectionate and just a bit lazy, all wrapped up into one fantastic companion. I’m silly and goofy and such a nice friend, but I can be shy and unsure sometimes, too. I’ve just had a life full of instability and change, that’s all, so it takes me a little extra time to learn to relax and to know that you’re my people. Once we bond, you’ll find me to be such a lovely dog. I’m the sort of friend who will stay with you in your heart forever. I’m a handsome, ~60-pound sweetheart, with stunning, gentle eyes that will make you melt, beautiful markings, and an unassuming, charming personality. I’m already fully housebroken too! I found myself all alone as a stray with no one to turn to when Foster Mom stepped into my life. She was just what I needed at just the right time. She has been teaching me manners and all about how great life can be as part of a family, and I have been busy soaking up every ounce of love and attention that she shares with me. She says I’m ready now to start the next chapter of my life. I’m ready to be adopted! I hope you’re the one who will welcome me into your family! I’ve come so far during my time in foster, making Foster Mom beam with pride. Everything was so new and strange to me, but I settled right in with my new routine, and I’m very well behaved. My perfect day consists of lounging on the couch or bed, playing with my favorite stuffie toys, going for a short walk, and curling up next to you as you tell me what a good boy I am. I’m a sensitive soul, so please don’t be harsh with me. If you stay patient and calm with me, praising and encouraging me when I do the right thing, it will help me learn what you expect from me. I am one smart cookie and eager to please. Training me is easy and fun, aided by my love of delicious treats, of course. I don’t need a ton of exercise to keep me happy, but I do enjoy a daily walk. I’ve worked really hard on my leash skills during my time in foster, and I typically walk very well on my leash these days. Sometimes people or other dogs startle me though. Foster Dad helps me keep my distance from others, which works great. I prefer walking in familiar, low traffic areas, where I know what to expect. I am picky with my dog friends, so slow introductions help me to be more at ease. I currently live with two older female dogs in my foster home and we get along just fine. If you have another dog, I will need to meet them before we go home together, to make sure we’re a good match for each other. I need a home without cats, please, because I like to chase them. And I will be happiest in a home with all adults or older kids. The younger kiddos make me nervous. I’m looking for a quiet and calm home without a lot of commotion, and with kind, chill people who like the fact that I enjoy being a couch potato or a big lap dog most days. All I’ve ever wanted is to live a safe and peaceful life with people I love. It really is as simple as that for me. Living in my foster home, I’ve learned that life is so much sweeter when you get to share it with someone special. I want to share mine with you. Love, Dexter. Would you like to get together to make sure I'm your forever pup? Then go ahead and call/text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 and ask about me, Dexter! My foster home is in the Kansas City metro, but my friends will transport me to my forever home! What a deal! #thepetconnection

Story
This beautiful brindle girl is looking for someone to follow around and snuggle with--couch or bed, your pick! Radley is 7.5 years old and only 45 pounds. Her DNA test says she's 25% pit bull terrier, 20% boxer, and 55% all kinds of other sweet things mixed in. Whatever breed Radley is, we know she's smart. She is housetrained, crate trained, and when you tell her "go to bed," she will get in her dog bed right next to yours and sleep the night through. Radley also knows that when it's popcorn time for the family, she'll be getting some, too! Once Radley knows you, she will happily greet you at the door with a wag and a wiggle, ready to tell you all about her day. What's does Radley want in a home, you ask? Since she might need a minute to warm up to new people, someone who won't rush getting to know her is important. Radley has lived with a doggo sibling and done great, but definitely prefers the bigger canines over the smaller ones. And she's looking for a home with kids old enough to understand that Radley doesn't like to share her food or bones (they aren't very tasty anyway, really). Radley's not a complicated canine. Love, attention, affection. Give The Pet Connection a call or text us at 913-671-7387 if you'd like more information about getting to know Radley. #thepetconnection #adoptradley

Story
Meet our friend Mellow from On A Mission KC! On a Mission KC saved this sweet boy from being euthanized at the Wichita shelter and we simply cannot believe this world came close to not having this amazing guy in it. Mellow absolutely loves his human friends and is quick to warm up to them. He loves being pet and particularly loves butt scratches. He may even try to sneak in a kiss or two. He just wants to be near you and spend time with you, and we think he would like to audition to be a lap dog. He doesn’t understand that at approximately 70 lbs, he may be too big for that to comfortably happen, and we simply don’t have the heart to tell him. Mellow truly lights up when he sees his human friends. His butt wiggle and fast wagging tail are precious. And need we even get started on that speckled nose? He has the biggest, cutest noggin’ and will look you right in the eyes as he “asks” (maybe pleads) nicely for treats. Although he has discovered he likes chicken and cheese quite a bit, he also wants everyone to know he isn’t picky when it comes to food. Mellow is a perfect boy in his room. Unlike some of his canine neighbors, he is super quiet, patiently waiting for his turns to run in the yard, where he loves to play with toys and roll in the grass. Mellow appreciates the sound of a water bottle crinkling, but even better than playing with a water bottle is playing with water from a hose! Although he also loves playing ball, we do not believe a position as goalie is in his future. We don’t know much about Mellow’s past other than someone cropped his ears super short, and he was sad and broken in the shelter before his ride to freedom. But now he’s a happy, bouncy, silly boy who will be certain to bring a constant smile to your face. We think he is beautiful, and if there was a contest in his class, he’d likely win best smile. Mellow may be best as the only pet in the home, but time will tell. Now that he’s had some time to decompress, we are working with him on his dog reactivity, and true to form, Mellow is showing great strides. Want to bring this fantastic boy home with you? Call/text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 to inquire about Mellow. Mellow is in the Kansas City metro, but transport is available to the right home. #thepetconnection #StrongerTogether #adoptdontshop #shelterpets #rescuedog

Story
Midori, who is about 11 years old, is one of The Pet Connection's longest-term dogs. She came to us from Unleashed Pet Rescue almost 10 years ago with the understanding that she'd probably remain with us for life, but her rehabilitation went so well that she's most certainly adoptable and deserves to know a real home as a senior. Please read about Midori and consider giving her the gift of a home. I'm Midori! Not the sweet liquor kind of Midori, but the sweet dog Midori! Not to boast or anything, but I've been called "a good listener," "lovely," "gracious," "wonderfully silly," and "obedient." Pretty nice, right? I love to be with my people, so if you're inside, I'll want to be inside with you. If you're chilling in our yard, I'll be chillin' with you! Maybe we can play with toys while we're hanging out? I do think my toys are pretty awesome. After we're done playing, we could snuggle on the couch. Speaking of good dogs, aren't you so done with unruly puppy behavior? I'm past that puppy stage, so I know to do my business outside and I love hanging out in my crate. I'm not destructive in the house at all. In fact, I'm what the folks around here call a "great house guest"! I've had time to think about my perfect home and I've decided it would be one with only adults (those little humans are a lot like puppies, now that I think about it. . . ) with no cats, and probably no other dogs living with me, although I have gotten along with other dogs, big and small, after a slow intro. I really want some special person (or people!) to love me. I promise to love them right back. Think we might be perfect together? Just call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 so we can chat a little more and get a meeting set up. I'm in Beloit, Kansas, right now, but The Pet Connection will happily deliver me to the right home.

"Well, howdy hey", says Cowgirl! This cowpoke girl mosied into KC Pet Project on the trail for a new family as a result of housing issues. She's been out in the corral demonstrating all kinds of western skills, like 'Sit' and walking on the reins...ummm.... leash! She happily dawdles along, but has a cute little hitch in her giddy-up when she takes off in a trot! Her cowpoke friends describe her as sweet and chill, even if her cowgirl hat is two sizes too small for this big girl!Cowgirl recently hit the trail on a Dog Day Out and this is what her 'pardners' had to say: "Cowgirl is a super chill and happy girl. She listens really well, is potty trained, and has great leash manners. She showed me the tricks she knows - sit, down, and shake (can do with both hands but prefers to give her right paw). Cowgirl also took treats gently. She enjoyed looking out the window at birds and playing with plush toys. She took a lot of naps between playing, bird watching, and showing me the tricks she knew."Cowgirl is vaccinated, spayed and microchipped... and ready to ride off into the sunset with you!

Story
One pit, two pit, red pit, blue pit! Meet Seuss! He is a 63-pound, blue (or gray) pit with stories to tell! For such a young boy, Seuss's stories could probably rival that of any famous author. Seuss has been to the shelter multiple times, each time with his skin condition worsening. Yet each time he comes in he is incredibly loving to all the vets that have checked in on him and made sure he is all taken care of. Since coming to the shelter this most recent time Seuss has won over volunteers and staff members with his gentle, loving nature! He loves to spend his time out in the yards playing with all the toys his heart desires. This boy will entertain himself forever running around with his favorite toys! He is also one smart boy. He already knows sit and shake and would love to learn more. Seuss would love to meet any potential canine siblings to ensure that it's a great match. Seuss recently went on a Dogs Day Out and here is what they had to say, "We took him hiking across the street from KC pet project for 1 mile at Lakeside Nature Center. He responded well to being pet and was friendly. He never jumped on people or barked. He loved laying in the grass and calmly chilling out. He deserves a second chance." Seuss was able to go another Dogs Day Out and they said, "If you're looking for an energetic, happy, fun loving dog Seuss is your guy! He can be strong at first, but once he settles down he's so much fun to walk with. He loves playing fetch with his squeaky toy and taking in all the sights and smells on a long walk. He is so sweet and loved giving kisses and getting pets. He gobbled up some chicken nuggets and is very food motivated. Overall we had a great day, I would take him out again anytime!"Oh Seuss, we cannot wait to see all the places you'll go with your new family! Who knows you might even become a dog with a blog ;)Seuss is up to date on all vaccines, neutered, and microchipped. His ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED! We want all our dogs to have homes as quickly as possible. Story
Everyone’s always talking about work-life balance. Well, we wanna talk about dog-life balance. Kanga has that dog-life balance that we’re all striving for: she plays hard and does playtime up right, whether it’s with other dogs or people. She likes to play outside, and she likes to play inside, or wherever the good toys are. After that, she’ll find herself a quiet spot to snuggle up and catch some zzz’s and watch the world go by. In between, she’ll be a goofball and make you smile, and she’ll also let you dress her up and make your own fun. See what we mean about dog-life balance? Playing, snoozing, goofing around: She has it all, except for a place to call home. Kanga is a three-year-old, 55-lb. brindle beauty who wants to be forever your girl. She knows some basic commands and is house trained and crate trained. She’s a little shy for a few minutes, but she will make herself right at home and will be such good company. If you’re interested in adopting or fostering Kanga, please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387. Kanga is in the Kansas City metro, but transport to the right home is available! #thepetconnection

Hi! My name’s Houston. If you want a dog to snuggle, I’m your guy! I’d spend all day right next to you getting belly rubs if I could. Really, though, I’m way too smart to laze around. I know sit, down, stay, high five, hug, orbit, between, wait, and I can even turn off the lights! Learning tricks is one of my favorite activities and I can pick up new ones in just a day or two. I love to run outside and play in the hose, but my favorite game of all is tug of war. (I'll even let you win sometimes!) I’m kennel trained, house trained, and I do amazing being left alone. In fact, I do some of my best snoozing in my crate while I wait patiently for you to come home. I’m getting better on the leash all the time. I’d do best in a home with older children, because I’m still learning how to contain all my excitement around the little ones. Since I've been looking for a home for a while, I think I'd prefer to be the only doggo so I don't have to share. I'm a young guy and weigh around 60 pounds, so I’m pretty much the perfect size! I’ve got so much love to share and I absolutely cannot wait to meet you! You'll get to see my cute little nub of a tail wag and wag when I'm happy and *that* will make you happy, too! Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 to find out more about me! I'm in the Kansas City metro, but my human friends will transport me to the right home. #thepetconnection

Hi there, I’m Fletch! I’m such a good boy. When you see me wiggle my butt in pure joy at the mere sight of you, you’ll know we were meant to be together. I’m smart and playful and goofy and so affectionate. I’m the perfect combination of energetic and fun mixed with cuddly and chill. And there is simply no place on earth I’d rather be than right by your side. My life hasn’t always been easy, but that just makes me more grateful for everything good that comes my way. I will make the best companion for you, if you just give me a chance. I am handsome, strong, and athletic, with beautiful brindle fur, the cutest floppy ears, and a charming, delightful personality. I’m even already fully housebroken and crate trained too. I’ve been through lots of instability and change in my life lately. I was feeling stressed and nervous at the big shelter where I was staying, before getting rescued by the kind people at The Pet Connection. They understood my insecurities and quickly found a loving foster home for me. My foster family makes me feel safe and cared for and so special. Ah, I can finally relax. Now all I need is for you to find me and welcome me into your family! Living in my foster home has been fantastic! I quickly and happily settled in with my new routine. I stay in my crate at night and when no one is home, and I do really well there, after a little initial crying. I’m very well behaved in the house, and I try my best not to cause any trouble at all. I’m highly trainable and I pick up on new things quickly, so please teach me. I’m currently working on controlling my excitement level when I play. It will help me if you stay calm and easygoing with me, instead of engaging me in rough play. I’m eager to make you happy, and I’m ready to learn and experience everything life has to offer. Once I know I’m home, you’ll find me to be a mostly quiet, affectionate friend who loves to curl up next to you on the couch for plenty of kisses and snuggles, or to keep myself entertained with my toys. I like everyone I meet, but sometimes I can be jumpy, so I’ll probably be happiest in a home without small kids. I wouldn’t want to accidentally knock anyone over. I’m an active fella, and I will need daily exercise to help me stay happy, healthy, and calm. I absolutely love going for walks and I do quite well on my leash. I keep my distance from other dogs on their walks, and that works just great for me. I’d love a fenced yard to run and play in! I really enjoy being outside, but I’ve been known to jump high and chase things, so I am a flight risk. Please keep a close eye on me whenever I’m outside, and make sure my fenced area is safe and secure. I’ll be happiest as your only dog. I want all your love and attention for myself! Still, I might do OK with other chill, tolerant dogs, given a proper introduction. Mostly, I’m just looking for a home with patient, kind, calm people who want to spend time with me, who will encourage and reassure me when I get nervous, and who will help me realize that I’m finally home. That’s all I’ve ever wanted. Please call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387 if you can give me the forever home I've been looking for. I'm in the KC area, but my human friends say we can go for a ride in the car (yay!!) to my new home, even if it's not right here in Kansas City. #thepetconnection #fletch #happy #socute #adoptdontshop
