Story
This is Buddy’s story (in his words) I was born into a backyard where fighting was normal. They call it backyard breeding, but that doesn’t explain the blood, the screaming, or the nights when dogs didn’t make it back inside. The fights happened when it was dark. Sometimes you fought harder and lived. Sometimes you didn’t. The ones who didn’t were dragged away like they never existed. I chose to fight. That’s why my legs are scarred. That’s why my ears look the way they do. That’s why my body tells my story before I ever get a chance to. I’m not just marked on the outside. I carry it inside too. People hesitate when they see me. I know why. My breed. My scars. The way I look like I’ve lived too hard for too long. I’ve never had a real home. I think those only happen in dreams or movies. But I don’t hate people. I love them. I wag my tail. I lean in for pets. I get excited when someone says my name. Maybe I shouldn’t trust humans, but I do anyway. Someone once promised me a new life. They said rescue would be different. That I’d be safe. They were half right. I don’t fight anymore. I have a bed. I get food on time. I’m warm. I live in boarding. I will probably die in boarding. But here’s the thing. Life is better than it was. The people here love me. They tell me I’m a good dog. They send me toys. They dress me in costumes. They call me the mascot. I get snacks and sunbathing and hugs that last longer than a second. I grew a lump on my leg. They said it was a lipoma. It didn’t bother me… until it did. Until it burst. Until the bleeding wouldn’t stop. I was scared when they took me to the hospital. Hospitals haven’t always been kind places for dogs like me. But this time was different. Someone showed up for me. They didn’t walk away. They didn’t say I wasn’t worth it. They didn’t count my scars and decide no. They said yes.

Moxie is a playful girl who loves being near her people or outside playing with her canine brothers and sisters. Moxie plays well with other dogs and is always up for a chase around the yard or a tug of war. She is house and crate trained and gladly goes in her crate for meals and treats.Moxie is vocal but not excessive; more of a talker. She is good about letting you know when she is ready to go out or come back inside.Moxie is always close to her foster Dad, at his feet when he is working at his desk, cuddling on the couch, or curled up tight and as close as possible when it is time for bed.Moxie is just an all-around sweetheart, full of love and a spring in her step. She is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Meet Baby — The Gentle Tennis Ball Queen Still Waiting for Her Forever Family Baby has already been through more than most dogs ever should — and somehow, she’s still pure love. Baby is a 5-year-old Pit Bull / Boxer mix with soft white fur, adorable brown ears, and freckles on her belly that match her gentle soul. She’s currently in a loving foster home, but she’s still waiting for a family of her very own. Early in foster care, Baby experienced something heartbreaking — she was attacked by another dog in a home that was supposed to be safe. Through it all, Baby showed just how special she is. She didn’t fight back. She wasn’t aggressive. And she didn’t let it harden her heart.  She healed, kept trusting, and today she is still dog-friendly, loving, and eager for connection. Now that she’s safe, Baby is thriving. She’s house-trained, crate-trained, kid-friendly, and walks beautifully on a leash. She knows sit and shake (with both paws!), loves car rides, and settles easily into home life. Her greatest joy? Fetch. Give her a tennis ball and she’s in her happy place — bringing it back every time, tail wagging, eyes sparkling, hoping for just one more throw. When playtime is over, Baby transforms into a cuddle bug, happiest curled up beside her person for a quiet night of love and companionship. Despite everything she’s been through, Baby is still hopeful. She still believes her person is out there — someone who will see her for the incredible dog she is today. About Baby: 5 years old Pit Bull / Boxer mix Spayed, microchipped, UTD on vaccines Heartworm negative House & crate trained Kid-friendly Dog and Cat-friendly Great on leash Loves fetch, car rides, and cuddles Baby’s adoption fee is $275, covering her spay, vaccinations, dewormer, first dose of heartworm prevention, and microchip. Baby has proven that even after hardship, love can still win. Could you be the forever family she’s been waiting for? Apply at legacyhumanesociety.org/adoptfoster/adoption-application, and her foster mom will be in touch.   We do not have a facility to house the dogs in our program. They are all kept in foster homes until they are adopted. Story
Hutch is a shy boy that takes a minute to trust and to warm up to strangers. As you can see from his photos, once he has a minute, he is just a lover! He gets along great with other dogs, is house, crate and leash trained. All Dallas Dog adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon finalizing adoption. Puppies adopted under the age of five months require a spay/neuter contract, and all dogs are required to be spayed by six months unless otherwise medically noted. Our dogs are currently on heartworm preventative. Puppies receive 3 to 4 rounds of vaccinations depending on their age, and adults receive two rounds unless they've been with us longer than a year, in which case they receive the booster update. You can complete an application or view all the adoptable pets on our website at www.dallasdog.org/adopt. Upon receiving your application, please allow us 2-3 business days to review and process.
