Meet Dixie, a high-spirited and exuberant Terrier mix girl who arrived at the Mesquite animal Shelter on 12/16 as a stray. Dixie weighs 55 pounds, is approx 2 years old and is spayed. There is nothing subdued or reserved about this girl! In the yard she runs and plays, chases balls (but does not return them) and likes to climb on the play equipment. She has the energy level of a pup. She will jump on you so that is an issue that will need to be addressed. Dixie also loves exploring the yard and just seems to be thrilled to be out of her kennel stretching her legs. She loves and takes treats gently. Dixie is good on a leash but is a bit of a puller. This is a girl who needs someone who will stay committed to her, give her the patience and TLC she deserves and provide exercise and play time, along with some training. In her short life, it looks like Eva has probably been overbred. She would now like to go to a home that would cherish HER because of her sterling personality. Eva is a two-year-old black and white terrier pit mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 5/21. She weighs 56 pounds. I had her out on a hot day and she spent most the time by the door. She wants to be mostly an inside dog. She will need a tall secure fence as she did make an attempt to escape. She does sit for treats and takes them gently. Eva is well mannered. She occasionally jumps on you but gets down when asked to do so. She wants human interaction and stays close. She is sweet, friendly, and very observant. She seems to be happy as her tail wagged a lot. She came to me when I called her. She walked OK on a leash. She did her business when she got out into the yard. She wagged her tail meeting smaller dogs but barked at one larger dog. We always suggest if you have another dog to ask the shelter for a dog test. This is one sweet girl and deserves a break. I'm hoping this first picture will tug at your heart and you will come in and meet her. Eva would do well with children. As loving as she is, I think she would be very protective of them. And like I said, she does not like the hot weather and needs to be a mostly inside dog.

Meet Gypsy, an American Staffordshire Terrier mix that arrived as a stray at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 6/24. She weighs 56 pounds and is approximately 1 1/2 years old. She has a shiny coat and stunning eyes and appears to have been well cared for. Yet her owner has not come to reclaim her, sad to say. She walks quite nicely on a leash. She has a chill personality and a low-key energy level. She spent a fair amount of time checking out all the nooks and crannies in the room in which her eval was done. She walks beautifully on a leash. Gypsy does jump on you occasionally and that behavior will need to be corrected. She enjoyed playing with some squeaky toys. Gypsy likes treats and will take them politely. She does not seem to know any commands. She is a friendly girl with a sweet nature who would like nothing better than to leave the shelter life behind. Her desire is to find a person or family who would allow her to live inside and be an important and integral part of the family circle.

Meet Dreamer! He is a 2 yr old neutered male American Pitbull mix that weighs 55lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 7/30 as a stray. This beautiful boy with golden eyes has such a loving charisma and a smile you just can't resist. And what a lovebug! He can be shy at first but after petting, and smothering him with kisses on his face, you will see the biggest smile and a tail wag that doesn't stop. Walking through the shelter, he walks well on a leash and didn't show any interest in the other dogs barking. We do always ask if there will be another dog in the home to please ask the shelter for a dog test. He has a gentleness about him and shows when he takes treats. His favorite place to be is snuggling on a fluffy dog bed and he dreams of having one with his own loving family. Dreamer would make a great family companion. He hopes to have a secured backyard he can play in, but most importantly live indoors, taking names on his own dog bed, or even better snuggling close on the couch while watching a favorite movie or show. Dreamer has captured our hearts at the shelter, and when you meet him you will feel the same. Come meet him!
