Story
Forest is such a fun, happy, adventurous, energetic, cuddle bug of a dog. He has been chosen twice for adoption and both families had to back out due to circumstances that had nothing to do with Forest. But this has delayed his hopes of finding a home and he is so sad to keep being overlooked. He loves other dogs, but they don’t always love him back because he doesn’t understand personal space yet. He is about 6 months old, fully up to date on vaccines and his neuter will be covered. He just needs a place to run and play and then relax and cuddle. Forest also LOVES playing in water. Application on our website or ask us anything! Note: Forest comes with a neuter contract - Fairytale Farm will pay for the neuter surgery and you agree to follow through with the appointment. The vet recommends he is neutered at around 8 months old (September).

Story
Rusty is an affectionate, easygoing guy who’s thriving in foster care. He settled in right away, picked out a favorite toy from a basket, and made himself at home. He`s a total cuddle bug who follows his foster around like a little shadow and loves to curl up in a lap for naps. He enjoys short bursts of play with squeaky toys, but his favorite thing is working on a pupcicle treat toy. He`s housetrained with no accidents reported and has good leash manners, though he may pull a bit if he spots another dog or wildlife—he’s easily redirected. Rusty rides well in the car with a seatbelt leash and has been calm and polite during outings. He greets new people gently without jumping or barking. He prefers not to share space with other dogs and we`re unsure about cats.

Story
Meet Courage! Available for adoption through Guilford County Animal Services Male Petite boxer mix 5 months old 23 lbs Crate trained Good with dogs Treat and toy motivated Courage was brought in as a stray. He's now being fostered and we are gaing insight to help find his match. He's slowly coming out of his shell as he regains trust in people. Right now, Courage doesn't care for the leash, but we are working on desensitizing him. I expect him to be very gentle once we get him walking on a leash. For this reason, his best match would have a fenced area directly attached to his new home. While he can be carried, he would adjust more quickly if he doesn't have to be carried out to potty. While Courage has maintained a spotless crate enjoying a nice dog bed without tearing it up, he's still working on house training. He will use pee pads in two places we made available in two rooms for accidents. He has pretty good aim and you can tell he doesn't like a messy area because he'll fold them up if you don't get the soiled pads up fast enough. Courage doesn't poop inside, but is working on holding his pee after playing inside. Potty breaks about every 20 minutes when playing and hourly when sleeping outside the crate in his gated room keeps pee pads from being used. He can hold it 4 hours during the day and 9 hours overnight in the crate with no messes. Courage loves pestering his doggy foster sisters. He is relatively good at reading their cues, but may need a person to help him settle occasionally. It's easily done because he loves toys and treats! He's also starting to enjoy a good pet and snuggle with his person. They just have to prove they are nice, gentle, and can be trusted. As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. If you would like to meet Courage please reach out to his foster Pawrent at 336-508-7229!

Story
Meet Rocko! At 8 years old and 52 lbs, Rocko is every bit as sweet and soulful as he looks. He’s a calm, loving Boxer mix with a gentle demeanor and a heart full of devotion for his people. Rocko is an excellent adventure buddy. He may pull strongly at first or when he’s excited, but once he settles into a rhythm, he walks beautifully. On trails and longer walks, he stays focused, listens well, and maintains an easy, steady pace. He shows no interest in wildlife and is simply happy to explore alongside his human. This boy is incredibly smart and highly treat-motivated. He loves training, picks up on routines quickly, and is very attentive. He already knows sit, shake, down, wait, “eh eh,” no, and his name, and he accepts treats with perfect manners. With continued structure, he should keep making great progress with leash skills. He’s also likely house-trained based on his clean habits and consistency. Rocko shows some playful curiosity with toys and will adorably pounce on them like a cat, though his interest usually fades quickly. What he *really* loves is companionship — but not in a clingy way. At the shelter he can seem reserved, but in a home his affectionate side shines. He’ll softly rub against your legs like a cat, curl up next to you on the couch, and enjoy calm, cozy moments with his people. When he gets excited during petting he may get the slightest bit mouthy (with no pressure), but he’s very easy to redirect. Rocko is wonderfully polite in public. He meets people with friendly curiosity and relaxed body language. He’s comfortable around other dogs and remains calm and non-reactive, even in close proximity. He’s cooperative for baths, even willingly stepping into the tub on his own, and he rides well in the car. Rocko is affectionate, medium-energy, heartworm negative, and beautifully well-rounded — a steady, thoughtful companion who brings quiet warmth wherever he goes. If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal, loving best friend, Rocko is ready to brighten your life. As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog-to-dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines. To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!

Story
A few notes from Jax's amazing foster family! "Our newest foster Jax is available for adoption from Guilford County Animal Shelter! A big detail to consider that doesn't define him, but certainly makes him unique is he is completely blind and partly hard of hearing. But don't let that write you off! While he needs guidance navigating his walks outdoors, he has quickly learned the lay out of our home and gently finds his way around and loooves to stroll the fenced in back yard where he knows he is safe. We have lovingly nicknamed him Roomba! Car rides do make him nervous. However, slow gentle back roads with the window rolled down will make him crack a smile and hang that big block head out the window. He's estimated to be 10 years old, though I would question being more 12, is a stocky medium build, approximately 60-70 lbs, house trained, sleeps a solid 9 hrs, and doesn't make a peep! He loves cuddles and interaction, and loves dogs! I believe he would do great with other dogs in the home that also have more of a laid back quiet lifestyle that can give him guidance and companionship. Being blind, hyper barking dogs that would roughhouse may stress him out as he spends his down time gnawing on a bone and laying on his bed catching a snooze." As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines.
