Story
Gretchen and Buffalo should’ve been named Marshmallow Fluff and A Hot Cup of Cocoa On A Snowy Day because they’re nothing but sweetness and warmth. At 12 years old, you’d expect them to be yelling at the puppies to get off their lawn, but nope! They’re good with cats, they’re good with dogs, their favorite pastimes are napping in the sunshine and smelling the roses on a leisurely stroll. They do take a minute or two to warm up to new people, but given what they’ve been through, earning their trust is one of the greatest joys you’ll ever experience. Gretchen may have lost her hearing, though she does give the occasional "Awooo!" when there are treats involved. These two are the chillest pups you’ll ever meet, so if you want a couple of furry friends to just hang out with and go on the occasional adventure, Gretchen and Buffalo are your new best friends. Come meet the dogs that remind you what happiness and peace feel like. Good with: Dogs, cats, slow strolls, people (after a bit of time and a few slices of cheese) Not good with: Craziness. They’re seniors, they like to nap. Also, not a huge fan of cars. The first time they went into a car was at 11 years old, so honestly, fair enough. Housetrained: Yep! Breed: Heeler mixes Size: Buffalo is 67 pounds, Gretchen is 47 pounds. Gender: Female (Gretchen), Male (Buffalo)

Story
This sweet young boy was one of the last dogs taken from the Navajo County hoarding property that had 47 dogs in one place over the summer. He is very sweet and friendly with humans, loves to give kisses, and just wants someone to give him a chance. Rex has been through a lot in his short life. He was born up in Holbrook so far off the beaten path you have to drive over an hour down a dirt road to get there. He was one of the last dogs removed from the property and was taken to the Holbrook animal shelter where he spent a week before we found him a foster. This foster had a young child and Rex did ok at first, though was pretty withdrawn and overwhelmed at his new environment. He is a sweet boy who doesn't want to hurt anyone, but having no prior exposure to kids, we think it's best he go to a home without small kids in the future. The foster did not have very much experience with dogs in general and was not comfortable with a dog that needed as much time to adjust as he did.  Rex is doing so much better now than when he first came down, though he has been in boarding for 3 months! He jumps for joy when someone lets him out to play and loves to give kisses and be pet. Many of his initial inhibitions are gone. He has shown us what a friendly guy he can be. He will still have an adjustment period in a new home, but we are hopeful it will be minimal compared to what he has gone through.  As much as we would like to find him an adopter, we would love even more just to get him out of boarding - a foster would be huge for this guy.
