Story
We’re not sure about Veronica’s backstory, but we know that she’s likely been through a lot. It seems as if someone wasn’t always very nice to her because she shuts down in some situations. But she does want to be right with her person, following closely on their heels. We think Veronica is about 6 years old. She is a gorgeous Australian shepherd with a gentle personality. While she is recovering from heartworm treatment, she still has energy and wants to play.  Veronica is deaf and has limited vision. She’s very smart and has learned several touch commands including “good girl” and “come.” She is learning to walk nicely on a leash and is housebroken. She sleeps nicely in her pen overnight. Veronica would do best in a home with a friendly dog to help give her confidence. She does not like being left alone for very long, so she’d love someone who is home most of the day. She’d love an active person because she loves to explore and go on adventures. She’d prefer a physical, fenced yard to keep her safe. This sweet, beautiful Aussie is being fostered in the St. Louis area.  ##2378212##

Story
Kane and Audrey were part of a litter of seven 6-week old puppies brought into an overburdened rural shelter. Their mother had been found nearby, struck by a car — leaving her babies orphaned, emaciated, and so cold they were barely hanging on. Despite the shelter’s best efforts, all the puppies except Kane and Audrey passed away. These puppies are fighters. They’ve bounced back from fleas and worms of all kinds, as well as sarcoptic mange, and are ready to start their new lives. A DNA test found that Kane and Adurey are mostly Australian shepherd and husky mixes. They are both very sweet and smart and love playing, running, and having fun with toys. Kane is a little more timid than his sister. He’s snuggly and just wants to crawl up inside you because the world is a little frightening. Audrey is braver and more outgoing. She crushes on every boy dog she meets and just wants to be close to them. The pups are each looking for a new home. (They will not be adopted together.) They are being fostered in the St. Louis area. To apply: https://www.speakrescue.com/pre-adoption-form ##2689461##

Story
Some dogs are easy. They love everybody and everything and have no quirks or issues. But doesn’t that make life kind of boring? Brayleigh is anything but boring. This girl was found as a stray roaming the streets of Texas. She had raging skin and ear infections and barely any fur. She’s also blind and deaf. But Bray is a strong and sassy survivor. With help from our vet care team, she had regular medicated baths and her beautiful coat started to grow in. Then she was a trooper and had dual luxating patella surgery. Through it all, Bray has remained true to herself. She’s very complex: She doesn’t like strangers and abhors men, but likes female humans and male dogs. Once she makes friends, she’s very sweet, affectionate, and playful … as long as you don’t try to brush out her mats or clip her nails. She’s gone through a lot in her 5-6 years and she knows what she doesn’t like! Bray loves to play, but is also content to lie down near her person. She isn’t terribly Velcro, but she does like to know where her human is. She likes to play with toys or just carry them around. We’re guessing she maybe didn’t have any her whole life, so now she will sometimes fall asleep with a toy in her mouth. It’s pretty adorable. Bray’s DNA test shows she’s a mix of Australian shepherd, Australian koolie, Australian cattle dog, and shar-pei. She’s a great size at just about 25 pounds. She’s good on a leash, great in a crate, and will potty outside if it’s dry or inside on a pad. She knows the touch command for “come” and is pretty convinced that’s all she needs to know right now. Brayleigh will need a very specific home with just a patient woman or women, preferably someone who has had experience working with “interesting” dogs. She’d probably prefer to be an only dog, but could live with a laid-back male canine sibling. Bray also needs a fenced-in yard for safety and would prefer someone home most of the time, although she is good on her own. She can be left uncrated and will use her potty pad and isn’t the least bit destructive. Brayleigh has allergies so she needs regular shampooing and brushing, daily medication, and weekly injections. Yes, she has many issues and can be difficult and stubborn. But don’t we all? It’s going to take a very special person to adopt this very special girl. But Brayleigh is so lovable, it’s worth the time it takes to get to know her. Plus she gives the biggest and best sloppiest kisses. Story
Titan is incredibly loving with his person. He will snuggle and likes to meet new people. This year-old Australian shepherd mix loves to play fetch inside or outside. He has completed three levels of sniff work and enjoys going to class to do more. He’s very bright and knows a whole slew of commands including sit, down, touch, off, come, and OK! Titan is blind in one eye, but it doesn’t stop him from racing around the backyard and catching all his favorite balls. Titan is potty trained and great in his crate. He’s very good at entertaining himself and really enjoys his toys and chews. Titan does not love other dogs. He needs to be the only dog in the home because he doesn’t like other dogs going near his food or his toys. He needs a home with a physical, fenced yard, where someone is around most of the time. Titan needs an experienced home where someone can help him continue to build his confidence. Story
Handsome Drift turns heads wherever he goes. But this 1-year-old Baussie (border collie-Australian shepherd) is not just gorgeous; he’s also brilliant, athletic, and so, so sweet. Drift loves to run and jump and play with all his dog buddies, but he’s also incredibly happy snuggling with his human pals. He’s so agile and fast that he likely would be amazing at agility or sports. Drift is great with other dogs. He has such a calm, easy way about him that he easily makes lots of new friends. Drift is hearing impaired and he is learning hand signals. He quickly figured out sit, come, and up. He’s completely potty trained, is great in a crate and on a leash, and is completely trustworthy in the house. Drift would thrive in an active home where he can stay busy and be part of the fun. He loves his human and wants to be right there, doing what you do. Drift has had a complete recovery from having a non-functioning kidney removed. It does not change his active lifestyle at all. Drift requires a physical, fenced yard and really would love someone who understands the brains and energy of a herding dog. He would love a friendly dog buddy. This sweet and handsome boy is being fostered in St. Louis. Please fill out an application at: https://www.speakrescue.com/pre-adoption-form ##2780632##
