We’re not sure about Veronica’s backstory, but we know that she’s likely been through a lot. It seems as if someone wasn’t always very nice to her because she shuts down in some situations. But she does want to be right with her person, following closely on their heels. We think Veronica is about 6 years old. She is a gorgeous Australian shepherd with a gentle personality. While she is recovering from heartworm treatment, she still has energy and wants to play. She is fantastic with other dogs and great with kids. She is happy to be with everyone. Veronica is deaf and has limited vision. She’s very smart and has learned several touch commands including “good girl” and “come.” She is learning to walk nicely on a leash and is housebroken. She sleeps nicely in her pen overnight. Veronica would do best in a home with a friendly dog to help give her confidence. She does not like being left alone for very long, so she’d love someone who is home most of the day. She’d love an active person because she loves to explore and go on adventures. She’d prefer a physical, fenced yard to keep her safe. This sweet, beautiful Aussie is being fostered in the St. Louis area. ##2378212##

Each one is adorable, sweet, and smart and they all have amazing temperaments. Sweet senior Stevie is a handsome guy who loves taking walks, wandering around his yard, and hanging out with his human. Just about 10 years old, Stevie is likely an Australian shepherd mix. He's pretty low energy in the house. He gets really excited when it’s time to go for a walk and he jumps up and down at dinner time. Stevie likes to lie at the top of the porch steps and just watch what’s going on in the yard. He comes in when called, especially if there’s a snack involved. He knows “out” and “eat” and is working on “place” and “touch.” Stevie has excellent house manners. He’s potty trained and has never had an accident. He doesn’t chew or get into things. Stevie gets along well with calm, respectful dogs. He’s been good with the kids he’s met when he’s been out and about. He’d love a home where someone isn’t gone all day. He’d really enjoy a fenced yard because he sure loves to spend time outside, just soaking in the sunshine. Stevie is a little shy at first, but comes out of his shell as he gets to know you. Arwen’s story is heartbreaking. She was dropped off at an emergency vet’s office with a horrific injury across her back. The area was infected and swarming with maggots. The vet’s office worked tenaciously to heal this sweet girl with the awful pain. No matter what medical procedures she endured, she greeted them with a wagging tail and wonderful disposition. In the meantime, her people vanished and never checked on her again. Now we are on the quest to find this beautiful and gentle Australian shepherd the happy ending she deserves. Arwen is about 4-5 years old. She is fairly mellow and, although she can be playful, she wouldn’t mind being a couch potato much of the day. She loves to cuddle with her humans and thinks snuggling is just the best. Arwen is completely housetrained, does well in her crate, and is working on leash training. She’s pretty polite in the house and has lovely manners. Arwen is deaf and is learning hand signals. She understands “sit” and “no” and is working on other signs. She’s very food motivated and is eager to show off for treats. Arwen would prefer a physical, fenced yard because she absolutely loves being outside. She would love a big yard where she could roam and explore. She barks at the door when she needs to go potty or would like to go play. Arwen is very friendly with other dogs and would enjoy having a friendly fur sibling. Because she has a patch of fur that might not grow back, she wears a shirt in the cold and will need to be protected in the sun. She has the most remarkable blue eyes and the cutest head tilt. Sweet Arwen is being fostered in the St. Louis area. Because the trip here was tough on her, we’d like to keep her adopted relatively locally. ##2641490##

Rye is one of a litter of handsome Aussie and border collie mixes we recently rescued. They were living in a pen outside their entire lives and now are learning about warmth and affection and having fun! Rye is about 8-9 months old and has tons of energy. He loves to play ball, chew on toys, and play chase. He would likely be quite a natural at agility or dog sports. He’s a smart boy and quickly learned “sit” and “come” and is about to conquer “down.” Rye is amazing in his crate. He’s getting the hang of walking nicely on a leash and is doing well with potty training. He really likes to play with other dogs, but he’s concerned they’ll take his food. He’s working on dinner manners and is already starting to get better. Rye would love a home with a physical, fenced yard. It would be great to have an active new human who has experience with smart and energetic herding dogs. He’ll be a great buddy for running, agility, or just playing ball in the backyard.
