He is fully vetted and has been well cared for - sadly his owners could not care for him any longer and they made the tough decision to give him up. We will find the perfect fur-ever home for this boy. Scooter is a lovable and charming boy with a playful side. He loves snuggling on the couch with his humans and enjoys a good game of fetch or tug-of-war with his toys. When he's craving attention, he’s not shy about speaking up, guiding you to whatever he desires—whether it’s a toy, treat, or even a walk around the block. During the day, he likes to sit by the front window, observing the cars, dogs, and kids passing by. Scooter is a smart dog who’s learned to use the dog door, but he’s also trained to ring a bell when he needs to go outside. He gets along well with medium to large dogs, though his interactions with cats and smaller dogs are unknown. While he’s making great strides in his training, there are a few behavioral quirks we're working on. If he’s resting near his human and they move or touch him, he will startle and bark, so we gently speak to him before we make a move. Scooter is also not fond of nail trims, ear cleanings, or having his nose touched, and he requires a moderate sedative for these vet visits. Despite these challenges, the vet has seen significant improvement in his behavior. She is back with the foster who pulled her fro Dallas Animal Services in late 2022. The adopter reported instances of aggression and resource guarding, but she has been on her best behavior since arriving back in Dallas. We had her evaluated by a trainer, who reports that she is a dominant personality who needs consistent reinforcement of her place in the hierarchy. The foster reports that she is smart and knows basic commands. She can be pushy, but takes correction well. She is high energy, loves to play with the other dogs in the household and is very affectionate. She is leash trained, crate trained and housebroken, up to date on shots and heart worm negative. She will do well with an experienced owner and the rescue will include a session with the trainer to teach the new owner techniques for avoiding issues. He’s a 1 year old bluetick beagle, 26 lbs, neutered, chipped and ready for his family. He’s learned to use a dog door, walks like a beagle on a leash (Iykyk) without crazy pulling and rides well in the car. He loves playing fetch and running wild at the dog park. He will play with big and small dogs alike. He’s been around adults and kids with no issues. Has not been tested with cats but likely depends on the cat as he would want to play. Did we mention he also loves to snuggle? Being physically attached to a person is preferred way to sleep. However he sleeps all night in a crate without fuss. He’s food motivated and should learn obedience and tricks easily. He quickly learned to sit for a treat! He’s been extremely quiet for a hound…no baying at bunnies or squirrels.
