Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet shy boy seeking fresh start and love! MARTIN NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME WITH A WELCOMING RESIDENT DOG AND NO CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 12!!!! Name:    Martin       Best Guess for Breed:    Basset hound and shepherd mix   Best Guess for Age:  4 years as of February 2023       SEX:  Male   Approximate Weight:    47 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats but he can be tested. Due to shyness, he is not recommended for a home with children under the age of 12.    Currently Living at:    South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get his freedom ride up here after completing heartworm treatment.   Special adoption considerations: Martin is a truly Lucky Dog!  He tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process.   Additionally, Martin is shy and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog to show him the ropes. Because of his shy personality, we do not recommend him for a home with children under the age of 12.   Martin is Looking For:  His forever family! This ultra-cute boy (pictures don't show how short his legs really are!) is eager to once again have his own humans. He's looking for have extra patient and loving adopters who will help show him a great new life at his pace and a welcoming resident dog who will show him what a good place he's in. His ultimate goal is to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog; his top priority is to know he's under his own roof, safe and loved, every time the sun goes down. In exchange he promises adoring gazes and loyal companionship and all the love he's saving up in the shelter.    What do you say? Will you be the one to give Martin the soft landing he so much deserves?  What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update this after he has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with his foster.   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. He is up for all those great adventures with his new humans! Sniffy walks around the neighborhood (beagle and hound noses - yeah, that's sniffy!), exploring forests and park paths, maybe visiting a dog park to see if he likes it, experiments to see if he likes ropes for tug or plush squeaky toys better... there's so much he would like to see and do! But - above all - what he truly wants most is his very own family who will give him all the love and attention he deserves! In exchange he promises lots of tail wags, kisses, and loyal companionship for all his days. How does that sound? Story
Female, approx. 3 years old, 29 lbs. Personality: Adaptable, outgoing, playful, snuggler, patient, eager-to-please, adventurous, protective, goofy/funny, energetic, loyal, affectionate, gentle, and easygoing. Blanca is the goofiest dog! If she could cuddle on a person, give them endless kisses, and play fetch every day, she'd be a happy girl. She has the cutest puppy energy and loves playing fetch, chewing on squeaky toys, and chasing a laser pointer in the most endearing way. After playtime she's happy to just chill out and relax in her crate. Blanca loves going on long sniffy walks and playing with dog friends. Blanca is doing well with house and crate training and absolutely loves to be near her person. She's extremely loyal and eager to please. Blanca has some playful puppy energy and she is a bit clumsy. For that reason she may inadvertently knock into a small child and cause distress, so at the moment she may do best in a home without young children. Sweet Blanca will be the loyal, playful, protecting, easygoing furry family member of your dreams. Apply today to meet her! Follow @inthenameoftacos on Instagram to watch more of Blanca's adventures. _________________________________________________________________________ If you are interested in meeting a dog or cat, we require an adoption application. If the animal has "HAS APPLICATION" listed, they are still available to receive additional applications but also may be in the process of being adopted soon. Apply for a DOG: http://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/adoptable-dogs.html Interested in saving more lives? Foster a dog today! Learn more, see our list of dogs needing foster, and apply, https://www.citydogsrescuedc.org/foster-a-city-dog.html City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Washington, DC. We do not have a shelter. CDCK has a thorough adoption process to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first-served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter for dogs six months and older. We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam before adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDCK. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house-training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs.

Story
This is Stanley. He is a sweet, chill beagle-basset, a.k.a. Bagelhound, a.k.a. Low Rider. He loves being with people and is happy to spend most of his time curled up near your feet. Stanley's parents love him and don't want to give him up, but they're over 80 and are no longer physically able to give him the walks he needs. They adopted him around 6 years ago and think he's about 10. Stanley's parents will do whatever they can to make this a smooth adoption, including providing food and supplies. They just want their boy to have a good home.

If you are interested in adopting this dog,  please fill out an Adoption Questionnaire at  https://petstablished.com/adoption_form/43315/genericYou can learn about the adoption process by visiting: http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/howtoadopt/.  Dog's Name:   Ward  (WAR0323JNSMN)Estimated Breed:  Basset Hound MIXApproximate Age:   1-2 yearsApproximate Weight:  38 lbsCurrently Living at:   FosterAdoption Fee:   $375DOG'S DESCRIPTION: Ward is a lovable sweetheart and as friendly as them come! He can’t wait to find his forever home with a caring and active family with no young children. Ward loves to cuddle with his people and the only thing he might love more is playing fetch! He is crate trained and dog friendly and would love a dog sibling. Your new pet will require a refresher in house-training. K-9 Lifesavers strongly recommends all new adopters enroll their new pet into obedience training. This provides for an easier transition into a new home, ensures the dog remains well socialized, and helps form a bond between the dog and the new family.           Adoption fees cover basic vetting, spay/neuter surgery (at partner vet if not fixed before adoption), rabies, distemper/parvo vaccinations, treatment for worms, heartworm testing, monthly heartworm prevention and monthly flea/tick prevention (while the animal is in our care), and transport costs from high-kill shelter. Please note that on average, K-9 Lifesavers spend significantly more on each dog than their adoption fee. Adoption fee for HW positive dog also covers heartworm treatment at our partner vets. Foster Program:    Foster homes provide for the temporary care of a rescue until the dog is placed into a loving, forever home.  For more information on becoming a foster parent, and our Foster Program, visit  http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/foster/  or email our Foster Coordinator at  foster@k-9lifesavers.orgSponsor Me!    Make a  tax-deductible donation  today by visiting us at http://www.k-9lifesavers.org/donate/  . Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Luke is a lucky dog.  Mutts was supposed to take another dog from the shelter but that dog was adopted and we were asked if we could take Luke.  Of course we said yes!  He is a calm and gentle adult male beagle.  He has the characteristic sniffing traits of his breed and is curious to investigate life around him when outdoors.  Luke has a sweet, quiet disposition.  He is on the larger side for a beagle, weighing in at 45 lbs. of pure love (this guy loves his food and is working on losing some lbs).  Luke is thriving in the loving foster home he shares with his beagle foster sister.  He continues to be an easy going and good natured gentleman and is very nicely behaved in a home environment.  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org. Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   I was picked up as a stray in rural Virginia and never claimed.  I am named Elfie, maybe because I’m cute like a little elf, and am estimated to be about 3 years old.  I’m 31 lbs of beagle cuteness (I look like a lemon beagle mix).  Sadly, as is not uncommon for strays like me from rural areas, I am heartworm positive and will have to undergo heartworm treatment.  Thankfully, the kind people of Mutt Love have stepped in to provide me this necessary treatment and loving care with one of their awesome vet clinics!  It sure would be great if I could get a foster home while recovering from the treatment as it’s a lot to go through.
