Story
Meet Dolly! This sweet little beagle has been stealing hearts since her arrival to Miri's Haven. Dolly’s life was turned upside down when her beloved owner passed away and she was left in the home with 25 other animals. Sadly, it was several weeks before help arrived, and she's still quietly carrying the trauma of that time. But even with all she’s been through, Dolly’s gentle, soulful spirit is already shining through. Dolly is super smart and very into food, so she adores enrichment puzzles filled with snacks. She loves being around her foster family, including snuggling in their laps and sleeping in their bed. She enjoys exploring outdoors but is not leash-trained, so her forever family will need to have a home with a fenced-in yard. She loves curling up on cozy comforters and pillows, and sitting on items of furniture when she needs a better view of the goings on. Being the smart girl that she is, Dolly is a great communicator. She'll let you know if you're running late with her meal, wants you to let her inside, or needs a lift onto the bed. She's also great at telling you when she's uncomfortable (for example, she made it known that she doesn't like being alone in a dark room). Dolly gets the zoomies from time to time and it's so much fun to watch her fly around the house. She's great with other dogs and loves to play with them, so we're hoping to find her a home with at least one canine sibling. Dolly is deaf and has some trouble seeing, but she gets around well. She has some stiffness in her hind end and back legs, so she has a little trouble going up stairs and needs to be carried down them. Dolly is brave, sweet, and so deserving of the soft, loving retirement every senior dog should have. She is ready for love, stability, and a comfy couch to call her own - could it be yours? Dolly is approximately 10 years old and 15 lbs. Fostered in Manassas, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Stumpy-Bassett Hound/Labrador Retriever (Bassador) male, ~ 1-2 yr. (March 2024) Contact rescuebc@hotmail.com for application to adopt. Stumpy is living in a very rural area with a family that asked for help in finding him a new home. He's used to living a family life with children and loves the children. He would be best as an only dog. He's a mixed dog but a popular mix, called a Bassador. The Bassador temperament can vary a lot depending on whether they take after their Lab or Basset Hound parent more. Generally, they are sociable and loving. We are fortunate to know how Stumpy has done, living with a family. Bassadors love attention, especially from their favorite person. If you want a dog with a very unique look who’s loyal to a fault, the Bassador could be the dog for you! Stumpy's adoption fee is $350 to help cover the medical costs of getting ready for adoption. For our application, please email rescuebc@hotmail.com Include your location and a phone number for future communication.

Story
Meet Poppy! This gorgeous Beagle mix puppy was found abandoned on the side of a highway and brought to a local shelter. Sadly, because she was found in a different county, the shelter turned her away. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan who was there, turning in a chipped cat, saw what happened and stepped in. She took Poppy home from the original finder and contacted Worthy Dog Rescue for help. Because of her quick thinking and kindness, Poppy now has a safe, nurturing foster home and will soon have a loving family of her own. At just 11 weeks old, Poppy is already proving what a special pup she is. She’s crate trained and has had no accidents in her crate, even holding it overnight, which is impressive for her age. She actually likes her crate and often goes in on her own to nap. She's also making great progress with house training. While she’ll go to the door when she needs to be let out, she’s still a puppy and needs supervision to avoid accidents. Poppy has playful puppy energy but shows signs of being a medium-energy dog overall. She loves exploring the yard, enjoys walks, and is getting used to the leash. Sometimes she prances along happily, and other times she’s all nose, fascinated by every new smell. With more practice, her leash skills will only improve. Social, affectionate, and confident, Poppy adores other dogs, kids, and new people. She’s still working through typical puppy behaviors like mouthing, but her foster mom is helping her learn with gentle corrections. She’s incredibly sweet, loves to be cuddled like a baby, and is just a joy to have around. Poppy recently stayed with a family that has kids, dogs, and cats, and she had a blast. She will make an excellent family dog and would love some playmates in her new home. FOSTER MOM UPDATE “ Poppy is such a sweet girl! She’s very smart, and she was super easy when she was here. She fit right into my pack. Pj (my newest smaller pup, 50lbs) and Poppy became friends immediately. Poppy was very interested in my cats, but my cats are used to foster puppies, so they don’t really mind a dog sniffing them all over. Poppy would even lick/nibble their ears, and my cats just stood there and let her. None of my cats run away, so I have no idea if she would chase them. She did great in her crate. Never had an accident.  We took Poppy to an outdoor event on Sunday and people asked if I had drugged her She slept almost the entire time. (It was hot). She did have a chance to interact with a couple of the large dogs and was trying to initiate play, but they mostly ignored her. I let her drag the leash around, and when I called he,r she came right away! She's a smart girl. For a puppy, I felt like she was great! Not super high energy and all around easy. Fit in with my crew, including kids, seamlessly. We enjoyed having her.&#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143" *************** While she clearly looks like a Beagle, our vet believes she’s a mix and estimates she’ll be over 40 lbs when fully grown. We’re looking for a fun, active family with a flexible schedule who is ready for puppy mode! A home with another social, playful pup would be a great bonus for Poppy as she thrives with canine companionship. If you’re looking for a loving, curious, and playful pup to join your pack, Poppy may be a great fit. She  will be coming to the DC metro area in late June. Story
Meet Annie!  This beautiful girl was rescued as a stray along with her two puppies after showing up at a Good Samaritan’s home. The trio was brought to a local shelter, where her pups were quickly taken in by a partner rescue and have already found their forever homes. Now, it’s Annie’s turn for a happy ending! Annie has been settling into her North Carolina foster home for the past couple of weeks, living with two older dogs and frequently interacting with visiting grandkids. She’s a sweet, social, and well-adjusted pup; comfortable in a pack but confident enough to thrive as a solo dog, too. She respects the older dogs in the home but still loves to play, and her foster mom has been arranging regular playdates with a neighbor’s dog, which Annie adores. She’s an enthusiastic, active player who would do best with another playful pup, and while she can be vocal during play, she’s otherwise a quiet houseguest. We checked in with her foster mom, Cindy, for an update: “Annie is such a sweet soul and loves everyone, both people and dogs. She follows us around the house and is a great companion. She loves attention and will happily curl up on the couch with you or roll over for belly rubs. She’s calm inside unless there’s another dog to play with, and she settles in beautifully when it’s time to rest. She’s young but not hyper, doesn’t jump on guests, and while she may bark initially, she’s never aggressive. She just needs a minute to adjust, and then she’s rolling on her back to ask for belly rubs. Annie had a few accidents when she first arrived, but is now fully house-trained. She sleeps soundly through the night on a dog bed next to my mom, and we can leave her uncrated at night with the other dogs without any issues. She is crate-trained, and we do use the crate when we leave the house. She’s still a young pup who might get into mischief! We’ve been working on leash skills using an Easy Walk harness, and she’s getting better every day. She only vocalizes when she spots someone or another dog she wants to meet. Other than that, she rarely barks and doesn’t even join in when my dogs bark! Annie is around 30 lbs and is a little on the slim side, so we’re feeding her extra to help her fill out. We’re not entirely sure of her breed; she’s petite with long legs, a small face, and a white-tipped tail—maybe a little Beagle in there? She’s a perfect size and loves sunning on the deck, playing fetch and tug, and most of all, cuddling.” Ideal Home: Annie would thrive in an active home with owners who enjoy including their pup in daily life, whether that’s hiking, playing fetch in the backyard, or sun lounging on the deck. She’d love a canine playmate or regular playdates with dog friends. She’s the full package: affectionate, playful, house-trained, and a great companion. Ready to meet your new best friend? Annie is waiting! Apply today!
