She had a very rough start to life after being found living on the streets in Texas with her puppies and their dad, so she can still be a little shy in new places. But once she feels comfortable, her personality really starts to come out. She would do best with another dog in the home to help her come out of her shell. While it takes her a bit to warm up to affection, she will quickly follow you around the house and has learned to be comfortable being leashed up! - Potty trained! - Loves other dogs. She especially loves the puppies she’s met at adoption events - Cat friendly! - Shy at first but will follow you all over the house. Give her something to do and she is game. Good on a leash. She is up for walks, exploring, sniffing, and adventures, with her nose naturally leading the way. She has a very good sense of smell and is an entertaining little hound to have along. Good with other dogs after slow introductions. She can be opportunistic and mildly pushy, but responds well to structure and redirection. Occasional barking when appropriate and minimal howling. Not destructive. Hi. I'm Bill the Beagle. I'm a sweet boy. I sometimes take some time to get acquainted with other dogs, but once I do - all I want to do is play, play, play. I'm also special. You see, I have heartworms. Polk County Humane Society will pay for the treatment, but I'll need to have some special care for a few months (antibiotics, steriod pills, injections) and I'll need to be kept relatively calm after my treatments. I will be worth it and I'd even love it if you'd foster me during my treatment period. The injections will likely need to be done in Bolivar, MO, so might require 3 trips to the vet there. Just to keep in mind if you think I might be the best beagle in the world for you. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2815464##
