Story
Meet Ruby Tuesday, a sweet girl with a playful personality and a little bit of a mischievous streak! This adorable Beagle is very food motivated and will happily try to steal your snacks if you aren't looking, so keeping people food safely out of her reach will be important. She can be a little shy at first, but once she feels comfortable, Ruby loves to play fetch and snuggle up in bed with her people.Ruby would do best without cats or small pets and may be happiest as the only dog in the home, especially since she prefers not to share her food with other pets. She is looking for a home with kids 14+ and, because she has a Beagle's enthusiasm for sharing her opinions, a home without shared walls would be ideal. If you're looking for a sweet girl with a playful side, a love of cuddles, and just enough mischief to keep life interesting, Ruby Tuesday might be the one you've been waiting for!August 31, 2026, 11:11 pm

Story
Evee | 24 lbs | 3 years old Meet Evee! This little girl came to POSO after being found living on the streets in Texas with her puppies and their dad. She had a very hard start to life, but after a little more than a month in foster, Evee is showing us more and more of the sweet, playful girl hiding underneath all that uncertainty. She has come such a long way. She can walk on leash, loves her treats and chews, and has recently started showing off her playful side in the mornings. She is incredibly smart, food motivated, and learning pet life quickly. She absolutely loves other dogs, quickly latches onto male but also has two foster sisters she loves. And she is also currently living with a cat and doing wonderfully! She will need at least one doggy sibling in her adoptive home to help her feel safe. Evee is happiest when she has her people and other dogs nearby. She does well in her crate when other dogs are in the room, but she can get lonely when left completely on her own. At home, she is a total shadow dog and follows her foster parents around the house. She does love to hang out in the sun in the yard or curl up on her dog bed while watching tv A few things to know about Evee as she is a feral girl still: - Potty trained, has never had an accident - She has the cutest head tilts - Medium-energy girl who will enjoy regular walks and adventures - Loves walks, walks well on leash - She is extremely food motivated - She needs a confident canine sibling to help her navigate the world - She will need patience and understanding as she continues adjusting to life as a house dog - She is still learning that people, new experiences, and the world around her aren't so scary - She is okay with handling as long as you move slowly with her Evee is looking for someone who will meet her where she is, celebrate the little wins, and give her the time she needs to blossom. We have a feeling that once Evee realizes she is safe, she is going to be an incredibly fun, loyal, and special companion. Watching her discover how wonderful life can be has already been so rewarding—and we can't wait to see what she becomes with the right family. For more photos and videos of Evee's progress, follow her foster mom on Instagram at @wander_adventurously. Medical: **Spayed 7/14 **Microchipped **Up to date on basic shots (DHPP, Bordetella, Rabies) **4dx testing, negative for tick diseases but postive for Heartworm. POSO has already started treatment and covers the cost of the treatment through our partner vet. Heartworm is a non contagious disease that is spread only through a bite of an infected mosquito. Most dogs go on to live long healthy lives after completing the treatment. If you have any questions please reach out to our team for more information. We will go into more details before we schedule a meet and greet. Comes with 2 free one on one dog training sessions with an approved POSO trainer

Story
Hi. I'm Bill the Beagle. I'm a sweet boy. I sometimes take some time to get acquainted with other dogs, but once I do - all I want to do is play, play, play. I'm also special. You see, I have heartworms. Polk County Humane Society will pay for the treatment, but I'll need to have some special care for a few months (antibiotics, steriod pills, injections) and I'll need to be kept relatively calm after my treatments. I will be worth it and I'd even love it if you'd foster me during my treatment period. The injections will likely need to be done in Bolivar, MO, so might require 3 trips to the vet there. Just to keep in mind if you think I might be the best beagle in the world for you. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2815464##

Story
Rocky is the kind of dog who makes himself right at home in your heart! This super sweet, gentle boy is also a total cuddler who loves spending time with his people. He absolutely loves going for walks and has great leash manners. Rocky has calmly passed other dogs, people, and bikes without any issues and politely continues on his way. His one weakness? Small wildlife! Squirrels, rabbits, and birds are definitely worth a second look, and he'll happily try to chase them if given the opportunity. When he's not out exploring, Rocky enjoys the simple things in life: squeaky plush toys, tasty treats, and finding the perfect sunny spot on the carpet for a nap. He's also fully potty trained and hasn't had a single accident in his foster home. Rocky settles in nicely at home and sleeps through the night, making him an easy companion to have around. With his gentle personality, good manners, and love for cuddling, this sweet boy is ready to find a family to share his walks, sunny naps, and squeaky toys with! They were rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  ##2818586##
