A dog DNA test listed him as 1/4 each beagle, husky, AmericanStaffordshire terrier and the last quarter was a bit of everything.Wilbur was adopted in December 2019 as a ~4 month old puppy from Companion Pet Rescue (I have contacted them twice about taking Wilbur, with no reply). Due to many life changes and health issues within the family, we can no longer keep him.Wilbur has met other dogs and been indifferent to them. We have aggressive cats that do not want him around but he was curious about them and when he got swatted by one, he backed off but did not try to hurt it., He has met children but has not lived with any. He will probably be fine in a home with another dog or dog savvy cats. Wilbur is incredibly friendly, loves _everyone_, and wants nothing more than to be with his humans as much as possible. If there is a heavy duty chew toy around he’ll be in heaven. He loves walks and chances to sniff around in new places or on car rides. He does well at home alone, although he will need time to adjust in a new home, as he can be anxious. He is crate trained, but is OK home not in his crate, too.  Wilbur is leash trained although he does pull some. He will sit and lay down on command and come if he feels like it or you have a treat. He has been known to “counter surf”. He also is a dog with opinions and if he doesn’t want to do something (get in a new car, have his nails clipped, be groomed at the groomer) it is tough to get him on board! He will sometimes snap when he doesn't want to do something, but only as a warning. I do have to give him an anti-anxiety med to take him to the vet to have his nails clipped. Between West Haven Animal Clinic and ShotVet, he is up to date on his shots and in good health.  Wilbur is an incredibly loving dog who has plenty of moments of playfulness. He will be a great companion for years to come, and I desperately want to find him a better home than the one we have unfortunately been able to give him. ##2763467##

Say hello to Forrest. He is as sweet as him namesake. A teenage boy took him from a suspicious situation to make sure he got the life he deserved. Thanks to that boy, Forrest made his way to one of our volunteers who instantly said “yes” to fostering him. He walked with a limp that she knew needed to be checked out and she was right. Forrest suffered a pelvic fracture sometime in his short little life. But the vet said it was already healing and with rest and proper support he would continue to heal and do great without surgery. And he is doing great. We don’t know what happened to cause this injury. We just know that his life is going to be amazing from here on out. He is fostered with other dogs and cats and he loves everyone he meets. His foster mom may be spoiling him :) He is doing great with house and crate training and he is a fast runner and learner. He will be great for a fun active family. We are estimating he was born about the end of May so he is a typical puppy with typical puppy energy and habits. He weighs about 15 pounds and we are having to guess at his breed mix. We are thinking he will end up being a medium dog. He will complete his vetting and be ready to travel to his forever home by then end of Sept. His adoption fee is $399 and if he has to be transported from TN where he is currently fostered there will be an additional $200 fee. Bailey has the face of a Beagle and the legs of a gazelle. He is trained to use a pet door and has been accident-free since arriving here. But somehow, as cute as she is, her personality might be even better. She's the kind of dog that quietly works her way into your heart until one day you realize she's become your favorite little shadow. As with any rescue dog, breed is always a bit of a mystery, but one thing we know for sure is that Butterscotch is 100% perfect. Butterscotch is a people girl through and through. She opens up quickly with new friends and absolutely loves being close to her humans. Her foster describes her as a big cuddler who's always nearby, following her around like a little shadow and even sleeping by her head every night. She has such a calm, comforting presence about her that it's easy to forget she's even there... until you look down and realize she's quietly been keeping you company the whole time. And when it comes to affection, this girl is all in. Belly rubs are her absolute favorite activity (she'll dramatically flop right over for them), booty scratches are a close second, and if you happen to have an empty lap, don't be surprised if she decides it's hers. Apparently, Butterscotch never got the memo that she's not actually a lap dog. While she's definitely a cuddle bug, she also enjoys getting outside and enjoying the fresh air. Her foster says they spend hours in the backyard together, where Butterscotch loves wandering around, soaking up the sunshine, and even taking the occasional dip in her little dog pool. Every evening she and a couple of the other foster dogs break out into zoomies together, happily chasing each other around before settling back down for the night. She isn't much of a toy dog, but hand her a good chew stick and she's perfectly content. Just don't be surprised if a squirrel runs by... suddenly this mellow little potato remembers she has some hunting dog mixed in there somewhere. Butterscotch has done wonderfully living with several other dogs of different ages and sizes and enjoys having canine companions around. She’s not the type that is looking for a 24/7 playmate in the home. She’s more looking for a companion that has her cool, calm, collected tempo. Not to say that she never plays because she does, it’s just in short bursts and when she’s feeling spry. Butterscotch would also do just as well soaking up all the attention as your one and only. Cats, however, are a little too exciting for her, so we'd recommend a cat-free home. One thing her foster wanted future adopters to know is that she may need a little time to fully decompress after going home. She took a couple of weeks before really settling into foster care, but once she did, she became the sweetest little shadow dog. We honestly think that makes the bond even more special because when Butterscotch decides you're her person, she's completely devoted. Butterscotch would do well in either a house with a yard or an apartment, although she'd absolutely love having a backyard to explore since being outside is one of her favorite things. Whether she's sunbathing, rolling around in the grass, quietly following you from room to room, or convincing you that one more belly rub is absolutely necessary, she's simply happiest being with her people. Rollie was surrendered after his owner died. He had never lived inside until he came into rescue. He is now house and crate trained. He does love to run and play and hide his bones outside. He had very little socialization with other dogs and is a little dog selective (prefers females more than males). He's more of a loner than most. He has always been crated inside to avoid the mischief a beagle tends to get into with chewing items he isn't supposed to be chewing. It is more for his safety of not swallowing anything harmful. He will bark to let you know when he needs to go potty. He has been completely vetted. He deserves a home of his own to retire in and enjoy the rest of his life.
