Story
Hi My Name is Shepard! My current family took me in 2 years ago when I had no place else to go. They have given me love, safety, health care, friends, family in addition to a good home. My family recently welcomed a baby into the home which makes me fearful, as I do much better with adults and friendly dogs. I also can be fearful when lots of people are around because I worry they don't see me when they walk past me. I love homes that are calm and with adults who like to go for walks outside and don't mind my company around the house.

Story
Introducing Sawyer! While this little love isn't a Chihuahua, he's used to the tinies and gets along with everyone! Sawyer is 2 years old, around 20 pounds and AKC registered. Sawyer adores walks, is great at giving snuggles and only looking for a new home due to his mom falling on hard times. He is great with kids and other dogs, is kennel trained and house broken. If you are looking for a sweet and even tempered love, Sawyer is your man! He is neutered, UTD on vaccines, HW Negative and on HW preventative.  His adoption donation is $300.00. If you are interested in the above dog, please do not email us and tell us that you are interested, but submit an adoption application. The link for the application is below. To submit an application go here……chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ An application must be submitted and approved before a meet-n-greet can be scheduled. Your current dogs/cats must be spayed or neutered unless a veterinarian has determined that your current pet(s) should not be fixed due to medical reasons. They must also be up-to-date on shots and on HW preventative. Reference checks and a home visit are required so SE dogs can only be adopted in NC/SC, VA, TN, AL, MD and GA.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please be sure to read Mae's bio before applying for her.Mae's life began in an unsupportive and neglectful home.  She was confiscated from her original home and brought into a county shelter.  One animal on the property had been tethered and found starved to death, and Mae was one of several other dogs that were impounded.  She was so emaciated that she wasn't far from death herself.  Mae has learned many new things in a loving and supportive foster home, and her foster family has learned a lot about her- and where she would be most comfortable.    Mae would do best in a home with another dog, she loves to wrestle and play.  Another dog her size or larger would do best, since she can be an exuberant play companion.  She completely ignores cats, so having kitties in the home would be ok too.  She definitely requires a secured fenced in yard (no underground fences please) and a home that has the capability to utilize gates to keep her safe until she has had the chance to become acclimated to her new environment.  She can be a bit nervous with new people, but she warms up fast.  She would do best in a home where all children are 12 and over, since she has had limited exposure to children.  Mae still carries memories of her past, and the one detail she is sure of is that her previous tormentor was a bald man- she is terrified of bald men,  men with hair do not seem to be an issue.  She requires an experienced family that will give her the time she needs to get comfortable and blossom into an excellent companion.    Mae is leash trained, house trained (though rainy days can be challenging), crate trained, and she rides well in a car.  She has been spayed, microchipped, and is up to date on vaccines.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 22, 2024, 1:12 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, I’m Stella! I’m a sweet, sensitive girl who is slowly but surely finding my place in the world! I was found with my sister Luna in Hertford, NC by a good samaritan, and CARE brought me to my new mom Tilly and brother Tip – it took some prompting, but before I knew it I was right at home with my new family! No one knows for sure what kind of dog I am, but somewhere between a Beagle and a Pug is probably right. That’s means I’ll probably be around 30 pounds when I grow up! While I love to play, I run out of energy pretty quickly, and want nothing more than to cuddle up to a human and take a nap. My parents think I will be a major couch potato and cuddler when I get older! I would do best in a house with no small children (any children must be 8 years or older) and only one other dog or so. I am somewhat unsure of the world still, and need a lot of encouragement (preferably in the form of treats!). I need a human who is patient and kind, and would do best with a small family or one human that loves watching TV and cuddling on the couch. Like my sister, I will be available in mid-to-late April.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 22, 2024, 1:12 pm

Story
Meet Janis! Janis is a spunky Beagle mix! She is crate-trained and house-trained. She loves to play tug-of-war or fetch and zoom around to get out some energy. She also loves to be in your lap and give kisses! One of our favorite silly things about Janis is she likes to walk into and wrap herself up in blankets (and curtains if you let her)! After being adopted last summer as a puppy, Janis was returned to us a few months later, very fearful and with reactivity to dogs. Janis has been working with a trainer and has made tremendous strides in the last few months. Her trainer and foster parents are very happy with her progress and confirm she is ready to find her forever home. Janis is a vocal gal who will let you know if she is nervous or excited by barking loudly. While we are working on this behavior with the trainer, Janis is a Beagle mix and will likely always be pretty vocal. She is a smart pup who quickly learns commands and is eager to please. Her perfect home would be with someone who is committed to continuing regular and consistent training with her. Due to her reactivity around other dogs, she would do well as a solo dog but could likely co-live with a dog in the future with continued training. She has experience co-living with cats and wants to play with them. She does well with assertive cats who will put her in her place. She would do best in a home without small children. At 10 months old, she is less than 30 lbs and will remain a medium-sized dog. If you are interested in Janis, click Apply for Adoption! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.MEET RANDY! Randy is an 8 year old,  21 lb. beagle mix dog.  Randy is a loving and affectionate, low maintenance dog that will make a very loyal companion.   Randy is very friendly with everyone he meets.  He is a very relaxed guy who loves other dogs too.  He is currently living with cats and does fine. Randy is very chill but does like to play with other dogs occasionally.  He needs a buddy and won't do well as an only dog.  He would do great with a family that leaves the house to work or with a family that works from home.  His energy level is low.  He will occasionally play and do zoomies but mostly hangs out and sleeps.  Randy does not require a fenced yard.  Potty breaks on a leash and a nice walk everyday would suffice for his exercise.   He needs to be taken outside on a regular basis for his potty breaks.   Randy is crate trained but he does have some crate anxiety.  An airplane style crate is better than a wire crate for him.  At night he sleeps in his crate with no problem.  Randy is a sweet happy boy who loves to cuddle and hang out.  He loves to eat and loves to go out for a walk.  He is looking for a forever home where he can love his humans and in return be part of a loving home. Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  We prefer that applicants live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We will consider applicants who live a bit further if they are a great fit for this sweet guy. .   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING  RANDY?
