Story
There is so much to love about Montgomery! He is an affectionate, intelligent, and energetic pup with a soft gleaming coat and velvety ears. He is eager to please and motivated to learn his puppy manners, especially when treats are involved! Montgomery thoroughly enjoys being around his people and would prefer a home where he can take part in the action and have a dog friend to run around and wrestle with. Although he is very social, Montgomery happily entertains himself with his toys (often turning somersaults in the process) and will voluntarily settle himself down in his crate for a snooze when he is all tuckered out. Montgomery loves to sniff the morning air and take in all that the natural world has to offer! He delights in independent exploration, eagerly following where his nose leads him. He is working on his leash manners and has discovered that performing a handsome sit when greeting people goes over better than jumping up, but that can be difficult to remember when you're an outgoing and friendly young pup! Montgomery will sweetly lean in for pets and kisses and climb into your lap just to be close. He can be vocal when he desires attention and is still learning what is and is not appropriate to chew on yet demonstrates attentiveness to household rhythms and routines. Montgomery sleeps through the night (8+ hours) in his crate very quietly and without having any potty accidents! He is also potty trained during the day and will let you know when he needs to go outside, although it is prudent to be proactively sensitive to a young pup's elimination needs. Montgomery is a lively and lovable puppy who will thrive in an active home dedicated to continued training as he matures. Raising a puppy takes dedication and stamina, but the life-long companion you will gain in Montgomery is immeasurably worth it! Montgomery is so excited to explore his world - won't you explore it with him?

Story
Hi I’m Jenna! I’m a sweet, silly, and loving 6 month old beagle mix puppy. I’m a little gal currently weighing 15 lbs. We think I may grow to be ~20 lbs when I’m full grown - I’m little! I love to play and when I’m sleepy my favorite thing to do is snuggle up on the couch next to you and snooze. I’m working on learning all my basic puppy training in my foster home and can’t wait to keep learning with my forever family!I sleep in my crate at night and sleep through the whole night. I’m pretty proud of that! During the day I have been practicing taking crate naps and learning to be ok alone. My foster parents are working on helping me feel more comfortable alone in my crate for small periods during the day (I’m still a puppy so I’m not ready to stay alone too long yet!) and I’m making good progress. I like to listen to podcasts so I don’t feel so alone!I’m working on my potty training and I respond well to having a good schedule and a watchful eye on me to notice my potty cues. I’m learning that when I go outside to the grassy area and hear “go potty” that means it’s potty time. I get lots of praise when I potty and that makes me feel great!I’m still developing my little personality but here’s what I’ve discovered so far: I love food! Food is so awesome! I also love my people. They’re really cool and I love to check out what they’re doing and to snuggle up between them whenever possible. I’m a total sweetheart to everyone I meet and love when they call me cute and snuggle me. Like any puppy, I love toys! They’re so fun to play with and I love to zoom all around with them. I also like to steal my foster parents’ socks and run with them around the house. I don’t destroy them but I do relocate them!I love to play with dog friends. I live with another dog but she’s SO boring and doesn’t play so I just ignore her. I’m very good at being neutral around her which foster mom says is also a good skill for me to have.I’m still new to this whole thing and I’m tiny so I can be a bit scared when I first meet a new dog and in those times it really helps for my foster parents to encourage me and let me go slowly. I’d rather take my time meeting a new dog so I can be sure they’re not super scary first - I am really tiny after all! I may avoid them and act curious from afar a bit until I warm up and then I do great! Just like any puppy the proper socialization to my environment and other dogs will be super important to help me have positive experiences and continue to grow my confidence. If you’re looking to bring a puppy into your family and are excited to support me in my training as I grow up - I’d love to meet you and dazzle you with my cuteness! Fill out an application for a meet and greet.https://www.secondchancenc.org/adopt-a-pet/dog-adoption-application/***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. Story
Meet Brett, a charming 6-month-old, 12 lb tan Beagle Lab mix with captivating green eyes and adorable short legs. This playful pup loves to stay close, often gathering his toys to join you for quiet play sessions. While crate training might not be his forte, his Beagle voice only makes an appearance during these moments. Brett's sociable nature shines through as he gets along well with other dogs, occasionally letting his puppy antics create some mischief with the older canine companions.Surprisingly, Brett is fond of cats, initially barking in an attempt to engage them in play. He's a bit puzzled if they don't reciprocate his enthusiasm. Potty training is progressing splendidly, with Brett maintaining an impressive streak of no accidents indoors, thanks to regular potty breaks. His Beagle instincts sometimes lead him on curious adventures, momentarily distracting him from outdoor duties or even dinner.Leash training is an ongoing success, with Brett happily strolling around the yard. Although the occasional tangle occurs, he's quick to figure it out.Brett’s ideal home would have furry friends to help him adjust and learn. A fenced yard or a family with the time and availability to take him on lots of sniffing adventures. He would not do well in a single animal home nor in a busy environment such as an apartment as he gets far too distracted to handle his business. This delightful pup is up to date on vaccines, preventatives, and is soon to be neutered. If you're ready for a companion who adores being near you and brings a playful spirit into your home, consider making Brett a part of your family! Brett’s adoption fee will be $350. If you are interested in meeting this guy please complete an application on our website https://www.secondchancenc.org/adopt-a-pet/dog-adoption-application/***Please Note: All the available dogs listed on our website are getting spoiled in private foster homes. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please be sure to read Mae's bio before applying for her.Mae's life began in an unsupportive and neglectful home.  She was confiscated from her original home and brought into a county shelter.  One animal on the property had been tethered and found starved to death, and Mae was one of several other dogs that were impounded.  She was so emaciated that she wasn't far from death herself.  Mae has learned many new things in a loving and supportive foster home, and her foster family has learned a lot about her- and where she would be most comfortable.    Mae would do best in a home with another dog, she loves to wrestle and play.  Another dog her size or larger would do best, since she can be an exuberant play companion.  She completely ignores cats, so having kitties in the home would be ok too.  She definitely requires a secured fenced in yard (no underground fences please) and a home that has the capability to utilize gates to keep her safe until she has had the chance to become acclimated to her new environment.  She can be a bit nervous with new people, but she warms up fast.  She would do best in a home where all children are 12 and over, since she has had limited exposure to children.  Mae still carries memories of her past, and the one detail she is sure of is that her previous tormentor was a bald man- she is terrified of bald men,  men with hair do not seem to be an issue.  She requires an experienced family that will give her the time she needs to get comfortable and blossom into an excellent companion.    Mae is leash trained, house trained (though rainy days can be challenging), crate trained, and she rides well in a car.  She has been spayed, microchipped, and is up to date on vaccines.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 21, 2024, 10:34 am

Story
Banjo came to us as a puppy and has been in foster care in Clymer, New York. Banjo is medium-high energy. He is 1.5 yrs old beagle, hound mix dog.He also loves to snooze, snuggle, and nap. Another one that loves the recliner. He definitely is not an apartment dog, Banjo needs a yard with enough space to play with his toys in! Banjo likes cats /dogs. (We would like for him to have a slow introduction to new pet members). Banjo is friendly with the other dogs he lived with, he sometimes plays rough/vocal, but never to the point of hurting another dog. He is VERY lovey, and needs human attention, and best to Create him when our not at home. Banjo will need some house and as well Outside environment training. He is vetted, neutered and microchip. If you think this is your next best friend, please we encourage you to send us a direct message .

Harley is a lovable and affectionate beagle mix who needs a good home. She has been a beloved member of our family for the past four years, but due to changes in my work schedule, we are unable to give her the time and attention she deserves. Harley is known for her gentle nature and friendly demeanor. She is great with children and other pets, making her an excellent family companion. She enjoys cuddling on the couch, going for walks, and playing in the dog park. Harley is in good health, up-to-date on vaccinations, and has been spayed. She has regular veterinary check-ups and is well-maintained with a balanced diet and exercise routine. Harley is crate-trained and knows basic commands. She is a quick learner and responds well to positive reinforcement. With a little consistency, she can easily adjust to any new home environment.

Story
We are looking for help in finding a new home for a sweet ~8-10 year old Beagle/Bassett mix, Chelsea. She is my mother in laws dog, and sadly she is in the hospital and will not be returning home. She rescued Chelsea in March of 2021. Chelsea is a chill dog who loves humans and is looking for her next family that wants to snuggle up on the couch! She is house trained and has also been trained to stay in the yard without leash. Chelsea needs to go to a home where she would be the only dog as she currently is afraid of other dogs (even small ones). She would get along best in a quiet home as she sometimes gets startled by loud or unexpected noises. Please let me know what questions we can answer about this sweet girl!
