Story
Meet Theo! Theo is an 8-year-old male Bichon Frise with a gentle soul and a big heart. He came to us as an owner surrender, and while his past may have had some changes, he's ready to settle into a loving, stable home for his golden years. Theo is currently on a urinary prescription diet to support his health, and he’s doing well with it. He would thrive in an adult-only home where he can enjoy a calm, consistent environment. Theo isn’t asking for much—just a quiet space, some cozy snuggles, and a person or couple who will love him for the rest of his days. If you're looking for a sweet, low-key companion to share your life and heart with, Theo might just be your perfect match.

Story
Jordan is a delightful Bichon Frise puppy! He is a bouncy happy little fella. He will delight you and keep you smiling. He was born in a commercial breeding facility and had not been exposed to the same things a puppy born in your home has. However, he is adjusting very well and will blossom in his own family. Like all puppies, he will need structure and a patient, loving home. We recommend training for all puppies—not only to give Jordan important learning skills, but because you and your puppy will create a stronger bond just by going through the training together. Jordan is fully vetted. He has been neutered, received age-appropriate vaccines, and is microchipped. Subsequent vaccines will be at the expense of his adopter. His adoption donation is $1200..00. He is on the hunt for his own completely committed family. Little dogs can live to be 20+ years old, so Liam wants to be sure his family is all in for better or for worse! IF INTERESTED IN A PUPPY (UNDER 12 MONTHS): You must have a very flexible work schedule or someone home all day. Puppies need to be let out to potty often. They need socialization, bonding, and training (housetraining and behavioral training). If you work long hours, have a busy social schedule, or are not financially secure, then a puppy is not for you. We adopt in and to the local Chicago metro area. We require home visits. If you would like to apply to be considered as an adoption candidate, please fill out an application for adoption on our website at: https://www.rescuetailsanimalwelfare.org/info/adoption We are all volunteers with full-time jobs. We try to get back to all applicants within 72 hours. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us via email/ Do not call. Story
FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60625 ESTIMATED DOB: 2016 WEIGHT: 16 lbs KIDS: Likely DOGS: Yes CATS:Unknown HISTORY: Ash came to us from a Suburban Animal Control facility where he was brought as a stray. ABOUT: Ash is a sweet, well behaved, calm, snuggly boy. He absolutely LOVES attention and hopes to find a home who likes to spend a good amount of time just sharing pets on the couch. Ash is a great mix of affectionate without being pesty. He won’t get into your lap, but he is happy to have you put him there. Somewhere along the line Ash learned a super cute trick - he will sit up on his back legs and do “party paws” to get your attention. It works 100% of the time. You cannot see his party paws and NOT pet him. It’s purely impossible, don’t even try to resist. How does Ash feel about getting adopted: Ash loves you so much (it doesn’t matter that he doesn’t know you yet) and also, can he sleep in bed? Ash is not a high energy dog, but he is also not a bump on a log. He enjoys walks on leash -the first half a block he needs to stop and sniff everything, but then he gets going a little more after that. Around the house Ash will follow you everywhere, so much that you do need to keep an eye out as he has a tendency to get under your feet and get stepped on quite a bit. If you leave the bathroom door open while you shower he is probably going to nap on the mat or peek around the curtain at you. He will occasionally pick up a toy, but without any teeth they probably aren’t as much fun anymore. (Ash had his few remaining teeth pulled, and he feels so much better now!) In addition to having no teeth, Ash also doesn’t have much hearing. We figured this out because he can sleep through almost anything, but he is not 100% deaf. He’s the dog who will hear something and then run to the wrong door because he can’t locate the sound. You also can’t yell at him if he is being naughty because he can’t hear you - and that isn’t even a line! His fosters haven’t found it to be much of an issue as he is always with you and always watching. It’s hard to remember that he is hard of hearing most of the time. Ash was probably a troublemaker in his younger days, but now that he is older all that remains is some silly habits that will be sure to give you some laughs on occasion. He has an affinity for stinky things, like his foster dad’s sweaty work hat and shoes. He has no teeth so he can only lick and gum them a bit, but he still works hard to get them. He is also eternally nosy and curious if you open a door, he is going to check it out - even if it is just the kitchen cabinet. You never know what you might find. Even though he isn’t a puppy, we still wouldn’t trust him near an uncovered trash can or your sandwich on the coffee table. Some mischief you never get too old to try. Ash is currently being fostered with a large and small breed dog. He has done really well with them since day one. He doesn’t ever choose to curl up and sleep with either of them, but he doesn’t avoid them in any way. Ash would do fine with other dogs, but he would also do great as an only - and would probably love being the center of attention. Every once in a while he’ll tell the other dogs to back off if he is getting special attention like sitting on someone’s lap. He also will occasionally try to initiate play, but the other two dogs have minimal interest. The small dog will occasionally humor him for a few zooms. The large dog has been picked on by too many small dogs and thinks it is a trap so he usually walks away. Ash also has a habit of trying to initiate play with the big dog when he is laying on the floor sleeping and then is confused when he isn’t interested. We expect Ash would be tolerant of respectful children, especially ones with gentle pets. We don’t have any experience with him meeting any cats to know how he feels about them. Ash is not crated while his foster parents are at work and has never caused any mischief except the occasional accident. Ash is fairly well housetrained, but he does sometimes take a while to find a good spot. If you don’t let him find it outside, he will eventually find it inside. He will do his best if he is given enough time outside, and frequent trips if he hasn’t gone. Ash likes company when he goes outside to potty, so you should anticipate going with him if you have a fenced yard. He doesn’t pee on things in the house for recreation. Ash won’t ask to go outside but he typically gets the zoomies when he needs to go. He does seem to have a preference to go #2 on hard surfaces instead of grass. Ash’s foster home always separates the dogs to eat, and his spot is in the bathroom. He typically will immediately do a #2 in the bathroom on the tile.Which his fosters haven’t found that inconvenient. You toss it in the toilet, and wipe the floor with a sanitizing wipe. Ash currently takes one 3.6mg Apoquel tablet daily - for allergies, and is on Purina Prescription UR diet. Ash was put on this food at the shelter, but we are not 100% sure why. They put him on it after 2 urinary tract infections. We have not detected any stones nor other urinary issues so we are attempting to transition him to regular dog food. If any urinary issues occur he should be returned to UR food. We guess Ash is between 8-10 years old and his curly tail tells us he is probably a Bichon Frise. We listed him as a Bichon and Poodle mix to appeal to people who are just looking for a curly coated white dog. Story
Meet Alex and Abbey – A Bonded Pair Looking for Love Alex and Abbey are an inseparable duo searching for their forever home! Abbey is a small mixed breed, possibly with some Shih Tzu or Poodle in the mix. This middle-aged lady may take about 30 minutes to warm up to new people, but once she trusts you, she’s all about high fives, kisses, and endless cuddles. Abbey is highly motivated by love and is always eager to please. She’s perfectly content whether she’s playing outside, perched on the back of a couch like a cat, or snuggling in bed all day long. Adaptable and quick to learn new routines, Abbey will thrive in a home with older kids due to her petite size. Abbey gets along well with dogs, cats, and people of all ages. She’s fearless in her role as your “almost toothless” protector, although she may bark to let you know she’s on duty. With patience and extra love, Abbey will blossom into your most devoted companion, her button eyes melting your heart every time you look her way. She has so much life and love to share! Alex, a petite Chihuahua mix, may be small, but he’s got big dog energy! If you love the spunky, spirited personality of Chihuahuas, Alex will keep you laughing every day. Like Abbey, he’s middle-aged and takes some time to decompress in a new environment. Once he’s comfortable, he’s a social butterfly who thrives on affection and loves to zip around the yard, play with dogs and cats, and, of course, enjoy his treats. Alex is mostly potty trained and learns routines quickly. He adores snuggling in bed and is fiercely loyal, despite only having two teeth left after a recent dental. Watching Alex grow more confident and affectionate every day is one of the most rewarding things, and he deserves a home where he can continue to flourish. Both Alex and Abbey are fully vetted, and they recently had dental work to ensure their mouths are in tip-top shape. If you’re ready to open your heart to this special pair, Alex and Abbey are waiting to fill your home with love and laughter! Their adoption fee is $650 cash or check and $660 credit card ($10 processing fee). . It includes s age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Applications will not be reviewed unless fully completed. An application does not commit you to adopting and does not guarantee adoption but does allow us to begin the review process. Please email adopt@safehavendogsIL.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Safe Haven Dog Rescue reserves the right to refuse adoption of any dog or puppy to any applicant (adopter) for any reason.
