This charming boy is Gavin, listed as a Black Mouth Cur and picked up as a stray on 5/5. Gavin was at first a bit hesitant about walking on a leash, but quickly warmed up to the task and motored right along! He was a bit nervous initially, but it didn’t take long for him to warm up, coming to me, tail-wagging, paw on my lap, looking up at me as if to say “Hey let’s be friends.” He is very affectionate and friendly, gives kisses and is quite the social butterfly! He was not interested in toys or balls, but in the room in which we did his evaluation, he found the softest cushiest comfy doggy bed in the shelter and settled in! He is a spunky, frisky, perky fellow with a lot to offer a person or family. In my mind’s eye, I can see him cuddled up on a couch, enjoying a snuggle session with his human friend. I can definitely imagine him as someone’s beloved and faithful companion. Yes, he`s definitely captured my heart!

Meet Lucy! She is a 1 yr old female Black Mouth Cur/Staffordshire mix that weighs 56lbs. She came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 5/13 as a stray. I don`t see how her family has not come to reclaim her. Its clear to see she has been very well cared for, and is house trained. She loves everyone she meets. She does get excited and will jump on you, but with continued redirection she does well. Lucy loves to be petted, leaning in close, and will give you kisses. Tho she doesn`t know any commands, she likes to play with balls, take treats gently and walks ok on a leash. And wow...does she have a smile that will definitely catch your eye. She enjoys investigating her surroundings, and didn`t show any interest in the other dogs barking at her. If there will be another dog in the home please ask the shelter for a dog test. This wonderful girl would make a great family companion. Have a secured backyard to play in, but live indoors where she can cuddle close on the couch with her family. Come meet sweet Lucy!

These little ones absolutely love being outside, especially learning from the older German Shepherds here! Clara is already picking up good habits like going outside for potty breaks. She’s part of a very active litter that thrives in a home with lots of exercise, social exposure, and proper training. A family with working breed experience would be ideal for Clara, as she’s mouthy and would do best in a home without small children.
