Story
Orwell is even cuter in person! He is estimated to be about 8 months old and weighs 52 pounds right now. Meet Orwell, a name that seems super appropriate and fitting for some reason! He is honestly just a big goof with the cutest snaggletooth grin you've ever seen. We have discovered that he absolutely loves the Kong Wubba to play with, it is so fun to watch him. He is hoping maybe his new home might have a basket of toys or something with one in there! Orwell is a friendly fella, you can't help but smile when you are around him, or honestly just looking at him, before you know it, yup, you are smiling. He is still just a baby and needs a family who wants to spend time teaching him all the good stuff in life on how to be the best boy. We think Orwell's playful spirit and goofy attitude will bring endless joy to his new home. He would love it if you came to meet him, he can't wait to have a family. He will need a home where any children are at least 8 years old, who can handle having this big pup around! If you are interested in Orwell and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. We also do not do cat testing, so we do not know how a dog will do with cats. Not all dogs are available to go home on the same day you first meet.*

Story
Sweet Mara only wants to be close! She is estimated to be about a year old and weighs 35 pounds. Meet Mara, she is such a pretty girl with a fun, playful spirit! She is a bundle of affection, so connecting and looking to please her people. Mara is all loose and wiggly, and she loves to be close, whether that's snuggling on the couch or playing a game of fetch with her favorite tennis ball. She will happily bring the ball back to you and politely relinquish it for the next throw - what a good girl! Mara also adores soft toys and is highly trainable, already mastering the 'sit' command like a pro. She just needs a little confidence boost when it comes to walking on a leash. She is dreaming of a loving, forever home. Could you be the one to help Mara build her confidence and show her the love she deserves? She will need a home where any children are at least 13 years old. One of our wonderful volunteers is taking Mara on a nice adventure, to a fun weekly Paws Plus training class where she is thriving! As you can see from her video (you can watch it on her Petfinder profile), she is so smart and wants to learn. She has already learned the following commands: sit, down, stay, watch me, place, bow, circle. She is working on "leave it". If you are interested in Mara and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. We look forward to helping you find your new best friend! *Please check your lease agreements for breed/weight restrictions prior to applying. Story
What beautiful brown eyes! Churro is estimated to be about 6 months old and weighs 40 pounds right now, but he is sure to get bigger. Meet Churro, a handsome and hopeful puppy looking for a family to love. He is very connecting and likes to lean in close. He's outgoing, friendly and always up for an adventure. He can still be a little puppy mouthy, but he for sure understands the importance of sitting and waiting patiently for treats or asking for things politely, he seems to have an auto sit to ask for things, so sweet! Churro is still learning his manners, but he is eager to please and responds well to structure and leadership. He is a quick learner and already knows how to trade up with toys nicely and has a soft mouth relinquish. Churro needs a family teach him all the amazing things he needs to know. Puppies require and deserve a lot of time and energy, but they will repay their families with a lifetime of unconditional love and happiness. Churro is looking for a family to make a best friend for life! He would love it if you came to meet him. He will need a home where any children are at least 13 years old. If you are interested in Churro and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. Story
Krypto sure is a handsome pup! He is estimated to about a year old and weighs 48 pounds. Meet Krypto, a bundle of playful and outgoing fun! Nothing makes him happier than staying right with you, what a wonderful best friend he is going to make someone. Krypto knows what he wants - and that's simply to be close and to receive all the love and attention he can get! He is highly trainable and just needs a patient owner to dedicate some time to him and be the leader he needs. He is so young and ready to soak up all the direction you can provide. Krypto is eager to please and has so much love to give, he would love it if you came to meet him. He will need a home where any children are at least 13 years old. If there is another nice doggy sibling in the home, Krypto would love to meet them. He has a soft, loose, friendly approach with other dogs. He seems well socialized with other pups. **We have some exciting news about Krypto! Red Lantern Dog Training in Ortonville is working with our rescue and letting some of our great pups come for training and giving them a break from the kennel. Krypto was welcomed right away, he is thriving and blossoming with training, you can tell he just loves learning! He has been working on so many things: sit for toys - has to earn everything, impulse control, wait at door, 4 on the floor, recall, drop it, place and leave it. Wow, he is a busy boy! He also likes being there with all the other dogs in the training class. If you can believe it, he also was accepted at the Lodge for Pampered Pets in Metamora for doggy day care to have a break from the kennels, he has so much fun with all the other dogs. Krypto would make a great second dog for a family!** If you are interested in Krypto and are at least 21 years old, please come to our kennel during business hours, make an appointment, or fill out an application at k9stray.com and an adoption counselor will be in touch. Story
Rocco is a loving dog that just wants some attention and maybe a backyard to run. I call him My napping dog. Cuddles right up. He does think he’s a lot littler than he is though can be a bed hog. The only concern I have about rehoming his Rocco has some separation anxiety so the first couple of days he might be a little sad, but I just don’t have enough time to keep them. It’s not fair for the dog.

Story
Rufus came from a rough upbringing, being mistreated in his first home. This caused him to become afraid of his crate, making crate training hard and he resource guards. We took him in because we are related to his previous owner and my sister already had a strong bond with him but we do not have the time, money or resources to give him the care he needs. He is very destructive from his anxiety when he is left alone. He was given meds from the vet for anxiety. He also has a double ear infection and was prescribed meds but he becomes reactive when you touch his ears to apply it. We have noticed he is more reactive towards men likely due to his trauma. He has made improvements since living with us but we are clearly not doing enough for him.
