He came to Artemis with a little “swagger step.” A vet confirmed it’s from an old, un-treated fracture that healed wrong. Sad human decision in his past — but the cool part? She was smart, cautious, and incredibly good at keeping her distance. No matter how hard people tried, Nova wouldn’t let anyone get close. Until one day, the firefighters noticed something was very wrong. Nova was limping horribly. 💔 It was eventually discovered that this sweet girl had been hit by a car. Somehow, she had been surviving on the streets all alone — navigating the world with a shattered front leg and an unimaginable amount of pain. We conditioned her to a live trap, and when the moment finally came, Nova walked right in. We wish we could say that was the end of the hard part. It wasn’t. Nova ultimately needed to have her front leg amputated to relieve the pain caused by the damage. She also has arthritis in her hips as a result of the accident. And yet… somehow, through all of it, Nova remained sweet. 🥹 Today, this tripod girl is learning that life doesn’t have to be about survival anymore. She is already potty-trained and will reliably let you know she needs to go out by running to the door or whining. When it comes to bedtime, Birdie wants to sleep in the big bed with you more than anything, but she is currently adjusting to her crate.
