Story
We have had Nala for nearly 11 years and she is 11 years old. Shortly after having Nala, we had 2 babies. About 7 years in, we purchased a second cat and got a dog the year following. Since the addition of the dog, Nala has secluded herself to our basement. She has everything she needs down there (cat tower, scratcher, food and water) I additionally work from my basement so she has daily company. However, I think Nala would prefer to be in a dog free house hold. She is a very loving, talking and gentle cat, but since having kids and other pets, the noise has become too loud. She regularly goes to the vet as needed and is groomed every 6 months. She’s approximately 16lbs and does have a slight cough, which she has also been seen for. She’s our original baby, but I do not think she’s as happy as she should be.

Story
Curtis is approximately 1.5 years old. Curtis can be very standoffish. He does not like being picked up or cornered. He will come to you on his own terms. He's great friends with one of his foster siblings so would most likely do well and thrive in a home with other cats. Location: Curtis is located in a foster home. Medical: All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and dewormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption. If you are interested in adopting, fill out an application online at www.figandfriendspetrescue.org/adopt

Story
Chestnut Male DSH orange tabby Estimated DOB 02/2022 Chestnut is an incredibly sweet boy who enjoys lounging on his favorite chair and being pet. He is also a big talker when it's meal time and won't let you forget that he hasn't been feed yet. Chestnut has FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), but he is healthy and doing fantastic! Cats with FIV live incredibly happy and long lives just like any other cat can. They can also safely be housed with other cats as long as they get along as FIV is primarily spread via saliva such as through deep bite wounds which we see in severe fights. Thankfully, Chestnut is a sweetheart and was likely infected being outside before he was neutered. Backstory: Chestnut was a neighborhood stray who started frequenting his finder's house. One day right before we were about to get a bad snowstorm with incredibly low temps, Chestnut showed up at her door and had a large wound on his side. His finder jumped into action and took him inside and sought immediate medical attention for him. With the amazing care of his finder and the veterinarian, he has healed up wonderfully and is good as new! Although he was already neutered when he was found, he did not have a microchip. He was posted on Petco Love Lost in the hopes that maybe he had escaped his home and had been lost outside for a long period of time which would explain the poor condition he was in. Unfortunately, no one reached out. There is the possibility that he was a stray cat that a caretaker had neutered to prevent overpopulation or he may have been dumped outside. Either way, he is in the rescue and getting the much needed care he deserves. He is doing absolutely amazing in his foster home and is learning how luxurious the inside life is where you do not have to worry about freezing temperatures or where your next meal is coming from. Housing: He currently shares the home with a medium sized senior dog. He does not mind the dog, but when they get a little rowdy and barky when someone comes over, Chestnut will go find a quieter place in the house to hangout in until the chaos has subsided. He has not been around other cats in his foster home. He may very well get along with other cats depending on their personality, but out of an abundance of caution, he'd do better with more mellow cats. Additionally, since FIV is primarily spread via saliva such as from deep bite wounds (like intact male cats constantly fighting outside), we would want him to be with other cats who have similiar personalities and get along. He has not been around any adult dogs and has only been around a young puppy for a few hours which he did not mind as they left him completely alone. It's unclear if he'd be okay with adult/larger dogs or dogs that are more energetic and want to interact with him. He likely would do best in a house without young children or in a quieter home because all that comotion and change can cause increased stress in cats which should especially be avoided in FIV positive cats. Even then, it all depends on the specific situation and he would do great in any household as long as it was as stress free as possible. Medical: Because he is FIV positive, he needs a low stress environment, quality food, exams at least yearly, and proactive veterinary care to ensure he stays healthy. Because he has a compromised immune system, he'e not the type of cat that you try the "wait it out" approach if he's sick. Although FIV cats can be more prone to certain medical diseases, they more often than not live completely normal lives compared to their counterparts. As medicine has advanced, we now know that having FIV is not at all a death sentence like it had been treated as previously. These cats live comparable lives to non FIV positive cats and deserve a home and love all the same. We highly recommend finding a veterinarian who is comfortable with and knowledgable about FIV. Depending on their clients, FIV may not be something that every veterinarian sees regularly in their practice, so it can be daunting and they may not be familiar with the most recent guidelines for FIV cats and how they can live normal and healthy lives. You can learn more about FIV through the American Association of Feline Practitioners' Feline Retrovirus Management Guidelines or from the Feline Veterinary Medicine Association's website and brochures such as this one! https://catvets.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/FelineVMA_FeLV-and-FIV-Broch_Web.2.pdf Location: If you'd like to meet him, he's currently in residence at the Happy Cat Cafe. Visit www.happycatgr.com for more information. Story
Uncrustable Female DSH orange tabby and white Approximately 8 months old Uncrustable is an energetic kitten who will play with anything and everything. She does not understand personal space and insists on sleeping on your face/head at night. She also hasn't fully understood that hands are for pets not biting and she is constantly trying to play with your hands and attack them. It's super important not to encourage this behavior and show her a toy to play with rather than your hand. She would probably do best with older children for this reason. She purrs all of the time and is just overall a quirky sweet girl. She needs a home where she can have a lot of playtime and attention and would love a playful cat sibling. Uncrustable is a 'chronic snuffler' meaning she occasionally sneezes and sounds a little bit sniffly most of the time. Medications haven't made it go away and she doesn't have an active upper respiratory infection, she just sniffles. This doesn't affect her or let it hold her back in any way. This is usually the result of a severe upper respiratory infection that they've had in their lifetime that has caused changes in their nasal passages so mucus builds up more easily causing them to sound sniffly. Uncrustable has lived with other cats and a small dog (11 lbs). She has been around a calm large dog (70 lbs) and did not seem to mind at all except for being confused at why it was so much larger than she is! Location: In foster Medical: All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and dewormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption. Mars Male DSH grey and white Estimated age: 1.5 years old Mars is the last of the NINE planet kittens we took in that were dumped in a local park when they were about 2 months old. Mars is not very attention seeking, but he will snuggle with you, especially at night. He would do well in a home without children, but would benefit from other cats! He's a bit skittish and will run from you, but he will approach you if you're still and he looooves to play! He will adjust to a new home with some love and patience! Location: Mars is currently settling in at the Happy Cat Cafe (www.happycatgr.com) where everything is a little new and scary. He'll need time and patience to come out of his shell Medical: All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and dewormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption. Story
Luke Male grey and white DLH Estimated age: 5.5 years old He is getting used to being the center of attention in his foster home which he had not had before. He has lived with a small (11 lb) dog and other cats. A lot of commotion makes him nervous, so he would do best in a house that isn't super loud and busy. He loves pets and will start purring the moment you give him scratches. He had severe and painful dental disease when he first came into the rescue. He had a dental cleaning and 14 teeth removed, so he is feeling much better now! He still eats hard food with no issues, but loves wet food as well. He has also had bloodwork done. The veterinarian heard a heart murmur during his exam but not while he was under anesthesia, so he likely has a stress-induced murmur. To be extra cautious, he did also have 3-view chest x-rays to rule out lung changes or overall heart enlargment which was thankfully all normal! Backstory: Luke came from a home where there were over 70 cats living in and around the home! We've been able to help with around 50 cats from this house so far but it has not been an easy task. It started a year and a half ago when a group of volunteers including a veterinarian from a local clinic had been going out to the house to pull cats to slowly chip away at the numbers. They were prioritizing sick cats, moms/kittens, and females who were not spayed as the main goal is to stop the cycle as quickly as possible. We were prioritizing sick cats, moms with kittens, unfixed cats, and babies. Recently we had the help of an amazing local organization so we could bring in 30 cats at a time for vet care and we had a foster available who could take in Luke and a few other cats. Location: In foster Medical: All cats are spayed/neutered, current on age appropriate vaccines (rabies and distemper), microchipped, given flea/tick prevention and dewormer, FIV/FeLV tested, and any other veterinary care that is needed prior to adoption.
