He is used to sleeping in round kitty beds and does not like to be bathed and dried. He has dirty eyes that must be cleaned every day. He is good with having his nails trimmed. Whitey gets a heavy coat that needs a lot of grooming or you may opt to shave him. Feta and Fontina are a very sweet and loving bonded pair. When they first got here they were extremely shy and anxious, especially while they were in their condos. Now that they've come onto the floor, they have become more comfortable with the shelter environment and they've started to open up. Fontina is the more outgoing of the two and will come up to staff and visitors to get pets and play time. While Feta isn't quite as confident as her sister, she will happily accept pets from calm people she's grown accustomed to and will happily purr when getting the right amount of attention. When Guapo arrived at CWA in 2019 he was in rough shape! A kind man who knew Guapo from shared time on his porch, also knew his friend needed medical attention. At first the transition was not smooth. Guapo was scared and defensive. After staff persistence, Guapo realized we were his allies and accepted care. Once healthy, Guapo became a free roaming kitty in our Staff Only area. His preference. His other preference was being served. Receiving his meals and interaction from a top of condos seemed to suite him. For special friends, Guapo will jump down to a window sill for pets and engagement. But as of late, Guapo is even coming down on the floor and even leaving his room of security to seek interaction. Once he your attention though, he makes a dash for his comfort zone with the hopes you'll follow. Our dream for Guapo is a quiet home with an experienced, patient cat owner. Someone who will allow him to grow his confidence on his own timeline. Guapo would be a great around other mellow cats as he enjoys observing his fellow felines here at the shelter. Mango is an outgoing, affectionate boy who was found wandering a smoothie cafe’s parking lot looking very skinny and sick. He showed no hesitation to be rescued. In fact, he jumped right into an open car door and laid down on a stranger’s lap! Once taken to the vet, it turned out Mango had a mouth full of bad teeth that all needed to be pulled. (He promises this wasn’t a ploy to ensure he could enjoy delicious canned wet food the rest of his life.) Speaking of open doors…despite knowing how great indoor life is, old habits die hard, and Mango has a tendency to casually waltz outside and briefly take a gander around when a door is opened. He probably lived outside for quite some time in his life; however, his perfect litter box habits and friendliness indicate he was likely was an indoor kitty for a good part of his life. His foster mom says she’s never seen a sweeter boy. Mango pretty much lives for love and affection, and eagerly escorts household members to their bed, the kitchen, the dinner table, the couch, etc. It’s worth noting that Mango is a very brave boy. He has never met a stranger and adores people. He is completely unbothered by vacuums, sudden/loud noises, other cats, small humans, and new visitors. Mango is estimated to be around 5-6 years old and is a huge fan of scratcher boards and chasing furry mice toys. He hasn’t been exposed to dogs in his foster mom’s house, but we think he’d be just fine if his new home has canine family members. Mango is a very healthy boy despite his FIV positive status. When he was found, Mango's mouth was a MESS and PetPromise did the hard work of getting his mouth healed up thru several surgeries, antibiotics and laser treatment. In fact, Mango has no teeth but that doesn't stop him in the slightest. Mango has now been cleared by the vet for adoption! The only outward indication that Mango is FIV+ is that he sneezes occasionally. The best treatment that we have found for this is daily lysine supplement in his food and that appears to keep the sneezing at bay. Mango, while FIV+, is a VERY EASY special needs kitty. All he needs to stay in tip top shape are these things: indoor only home, vet visits at least 2X a year and more if he has a cold, daily lysine powder in his food. That's it! The powder is cheap and can be ordered from Amazon or Chewy. While vet expenses cannot be fully anticipated, Mango does not require any special food or anything super costly to keep him healthy at this time. FIV+ cats can live long, healthy, fulfilling lives when given proper care and new science indicates that FIV+ and FIV neg cats can live together. As long as the cats are neutered and no fighting is happening, the new science suggests that the chance of transmission is relatively low. Carrie is a young lady interested in being social she wants to be with people as much as she can. We don’t know what happened to her in her prior life but we suspect she was abandoned as she wants to be with people at all times…as if she is afraid she’ll be dumped again.
