But if you'll give me just a moment, I think I have a story worth hearing. Not long ago, I was out there on my own — navigating streets, scrounging for safety, doing whatever it took just to make it. Life out there is no joke. But then she found me — my foster mom. She opened her door, her home, and her heart to a big scruffy stranger and never once gave up on me. Because of her, I traded cold pavement for warm blankets, uncertainty for safety, and survival mode for something I hadn't felt in a long time — peace. She's been patient with me, giving me space to just breathe. I'll never forget what she did for me, but she says it's time, and I think she's right. It's time to find my forever home. Here's what I need you to know about me. I am chill — remarkably, wonderfully chill. My foster mom describes me as easygoing, relaxed, polite, and just plain loveable, and honestly, she's not wrong. I'm the kind of cat who settles into a home like I was always meant to be there. I'm gentle and loving, and I am especially wonderful with kids. My foster mom's neighbor brought her 5-year-old over, and that little guy picked me right up, petted me, and we played with a wand toy like we'd been best friends for years. I was totally here for it. And listen — I have taste. My foster mom made me a little bowl of plain boiled chicken one evening and I have never felt more seen in my entire life. I’m still getting used to saying that out loud — “I’m Amber.” It feels soft and kind… just like I’m hoping my life will be. Not long ago, I was all by myself in a loud, echoing place called the shelter. I didn’t know why I was there or where everyone had gone. The smells were strange, the sounds were overwhelming, and my little heart beat so fast all the time. I’m a shy girl by nature and can be nervous at first, especially in new places. I tried to be brave, but I was very lonely. Then one day, they opened my kennel door and placed me in with two boys — Jasper and Flint. I wasn’t sure what to think at first, but they were gentle and kind. Flint especially made me feel safe, and before I knew it, he was my comfort, my confidence, and my best friend. Having them with me made everything feel less scary, and for the first time in a while, I didn’t feel so alone. (Jasper has since went and found himself a home with his new best friend, Michael.) And then something wonderful happened — we got to leave together. I didn’t know what a “foster home” was, but I learned quickly. It’s a place with soft blankets, calm voices, and people whose hands are warm and safe. I’m still shy and can be nervous at first, but once I settle in, my sweetness really shines. I might take a tiny bit of time to adjust, but I promise — I am so worth it. I’m a dilute tortie girl (they say my fur looks like soft watercolors), about eight months old, and I am nothing but sweet. I'm a tall sleek girl. I love gentle affection, and at bedtime? That’s my favorite part of the day. I want quiet cuddles, soft voices, and someone to curl up with while the world goes to sleep. Flint is always right there with me, and we’d love a home where we can stay together — we truly are the best of friends and really well behaved kitties. We both love to sit on your lap. We will even be on your lap at the same time and we would love to sleep with you if you let us. I'm a little more bashful than Flint but it doesn't take me too long to be tempted by your lap! We love playing together, we a great with other kitties and are perfect around the insane little dogs that live here. We are kind of fascinated by them. I wanted so badly to be touched, to be loved, but my paws hesitated. My heart whispered wait… is it safe? One day, it was. Not long ago, I had a person I loved very much and I even had a German Shepherd doggie friend. My whole world was quiet, soft, and safe — until one day, everything changed. My person passed away suddenly… and just like that, I was all alone. Then the floods came. I was stranded in the house, surrounded by silence and shadows, wondering where my person had gone and why no one came for me. Every few days, a lady would stop by to feed me. But she didn’t like cats — especially not scared, grieving ones like me. She didn’t speak kindly. She moved too fast and would even smack me. She frightened me more than I already was. I thought maybe love was gone forever. But now… things are different. I’ve been given a second chance. I’m in a safe, calm place.
