Story
Rye is searching for her forever home as the only animal so that she can soak up all the attention from her humans! WHAT MY FOSTER SAYS: Rye is the most lovely creature and will love you unconditionally. She has a very cute curly tail and when she wags it, your heart will explode. She's a very go with the glow dog, and just happy to be around her people. She likes to go on walks and is well mannered on leash, even with lots of distractors like people, loud sounds, other dogs, and other random city things like scooters and suitcases. Rye is super smart and knows a million tricks, she's very food and praise motivated, always wanting to check in with you and make you smile. She rarely barks in the house, is crate trained, potty trained, and does well being left alone for a typical work day. Rye is very low maintenance and one of the easiest fosters I've never had the pleasure to care for. Rye has spent 2.5 of her 3 years of life in a rescue or foster, after being adopted as a baby (fit in our founder's palm she was so tiny!!) she was returned at 7 months due to a lifestyle change during COVID. Eventually, Rye was saved by our founder when she was going to be euthanized for space in another organization, and has been with her in foster ever since. While Rye loves her foster home and her foster mom, she's excited for a forever home full of treats, love, training, and cuddles. ATTRIBUTES: Rye can not go to a home with cats or kids. ------------ Laila's Legacy Animal Rescue does not guarantee that any dog is housebroken nor crate trained. ** I am currently being housed at our Oglethorpe St location. Come meet me at 71 Oglethorpe St NW, every day between 12pm-7pm. Please arrive no later than 6:30 p.m. to allow ample time to interact with adoptable dogs. Or visit humanerescuealliance.org/how-to-adopt to learn more. Merlen here and I have a big agenda and I so hope you can join me. First, I was found as a stray so I'm keeping my background a secret but what I can tell you is that I am a frisky, busy pooch who loves to be with people! Getting outside and having fun with the staff and volunteers is so awesome. And if you start petting me, well I'm going to be your very best friend. I'm upbeat and ready for a grand adventure. I hope you visit me soon. Love and soggy doggie kisses, good boy Merlen.

Story
Pepper was adopted in October 2018 from a rescue in Alabama, and was probably 4-6 months old at the time. He is approximately 6 years old. He is a well behaved dog with a few small quirks... he as a little anxiety with new people coming into his home or his space, but after some gentle and structured introductions he does well. He gets along with most dogs as long as they are not overly eager. He does well with cats and has been living with two of them for the last 3 years. He loves to go on hikes, walks, play with balls and sticks, run free, swim... He has pretty decent recall and is very focused on his people. He mostly likes to cuddle on the couch and get belly and ear rubs. We are seeking a new home for him since we can not give him the time and attention he deserves, he would do well with a family that has older kids, or no kids, and enjoys taking their dog with them on adventures and gets outside more often. He is not a fan of the energy that little kids bring into the home.

Please contact Paul Slebzak (pauls@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.looking for some sparkle in your life? SPARKLE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:   Sparkle      Best Guess for Breed:  Catahoula mix   Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of April 2024     SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight: 45 lbs   Gets Along With:   Other dogs! We haven't seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested   Currently Living at:  South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get her freedom ride up here!   Special adoption considerations: Sparkle is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky!  They are part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study will be placed at random, in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, this pup will be eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  Post treatment, we will work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test 6 months after treatment concludes, followed by a second test at 9 months.Sparkle is a truly Lucky Dog!  She tested positive for Heartworm disease but has already been treated! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites.  Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the adoption counseling process.       Sparkle is Looking For:   Her forever home! Through no fault of her own, Sparkle landed in the shelter - but with her typical sparkle, she's closed the book on that chapter and is eagerly looking forward to her new one. The one where she gets her own humans for romps in the park and all the adventures they can dream up. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed make an appearance in that new chapter as well but you know what she wants most of all? To know she's safe and loved and under her own roof.  In exchange, she offers adoring gazes and tail wags and and snuggles and unwavering loyalty. What do you say? Is Sparkle the glimmer you're looking for in your life?   What My Foster Says About Me:  We will update this once she has arrived in the DC area and spent some time with her foster   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
