Story
Say hello to Kahlua! Kahlua just turned one year old in October 2024. He has been through a lot in his little life. He, along with four other dogs, were abandoned in a kennel in a parking lot late at night. All five dogs have made progress with their people socialization, to varying degrees. We feel Kahlua is finally ready to start the search for his forever home, provided they are patient and loving, and willing to give him the time he needs to fully blossom. Kahlua will bark and avoid when first meeting you. If you reach for him too fast, he will nip. Because of this, we feel he needs to go to an adult-only home. We have noticed he tends to bond more with females than males. At rescue, Kahlua will zoom up to those he knows and trusts, seeking out attention and pets, and giving a quick kiss lick on the cheek before zooming off. He is social with the other dogs, and loves to run and play, and explore the play yard. Kahlua did spend about a week in foster, but didn't warm up to the male in the home. He loved the human female though, and showed what a fun and puppy-like personality he can have when he is comfortable. In his foster home, Kahlua discovered the joy of toys (especially flipping them up in the air and dragging them all over the house). He also discovered his own reflection in the mirror (haha) and per his foster mom, "there isn't a reflection of himself he has seen that he doesn't like". He would jump on her for pets and kisses, just like he does for those at rescue whom he knows and trusts. Kahlua will take time and patience to fully get comfortable in a new environment. He will need help with things like potty training and leash training. If you think you have what Kahlua needs to fully blossom, send us an email to chitownrescue@gmail.com. Kahlua is approximately one-year-old, and weighs around 15 pounds. His adoption fee includes neuter surgery, vaccinations up to date, Rabies certificate, and microchip.May 23, 2025, 9:51 pm

Story
Meet Wiley! Wiley is named for his wiley ability to avoid the humans when he was running around the streets. We'll get to that story in a bit, but first we want to tell you what a shy sweetheart this guy is. Wiley is an approximately five-year-old Chihuahua mix (heavy on the mix!), weighing around 17 pounds. He is initially very nervous and avoidant with new people. Wiley has spent some time in a foster home and is doing amazing so far in a home setting, with a little time and patience. His foster mom says Wiley loves cuddling up in blankets and has even joined them for some cuddles in bed, recently. We feel Wiley would do best in a relatively quiet home with no children, and at least one other dog to show him the ropes. He thrives with routine, and as a part of a pack! Wiley needs a home setting (no apartments) with a secure fence/backyard and grass area, so his special paw doesn't get hurt on gravel. Wiley loves to sunbathe in the grass, and although he has a "bum" leg, he sure can move when he wants to! Wiley's foster mom says, "he is a sensitive soul that warms up quickly and makes every little bit of affection that much sweeter". A little more about Wiley's past: Wiley was humanely trapped while spotted as a stray; this was definitely not his first rodeo with the trap, and he avoided it for a bit until he was brought to safety off the streets. From there, Chi Town Rescue stepped in to take care of Wiley. You will have noticed Wiley's leg by now; this is a chronic condition and he has seen a specialist regarding treatment. Wiley has an old (and unknown) injury to that leg, that healed wrong. He has been walking like this for quite awhile and has adapted well. The specialists believe that Wiley has nerve damage in this leg and surgery to attempt a repair would not be successful. For now, the specialists believe that leaving Wiley's leg as-is, is the best course of action. If it starts to bother him at some point down the road, he may require amputation. His future family should be aware of this possibility and willing to provide Wiley with any necessary medical treatment in the future. Wiley would love to meet you! Email chitownrescue@gmail.com and we will get you in touch with his foster mom for a meet and greet. A home check is required prior to adopting Wiley. Wiley is  neutered, has a microchip and is current on vaccines. November 3, 2024, 4:58 pm

Story
Meet Rowland! Rowland is currently staying at Chi Town Rescue while waiting for his furever home. Rowland came to the rescue with his mom and two siblings (William and Beyonce) from a rescue in Mexico. They were scheduled to go to another rescue until they lost their foster home, so Chi Town Rescue stepped in to help. Rowland loves to go to the play yard with the other rescue dogs, playing fetch with toys and enjoying the sunshine. Rowland is avoidant with new people at first and will often bark at you from a distance until he gets to know you. Once he does know you though, Rowland insists on being a part of everything you do! He's a very curious guy and will follow you everywhere and keep you company. If you're looking for a constant canine companion, Rowland is the one for you. Rowland is a little bigger than your average Chihuahua. He can jump very high so a tall secure fence (at least six feet) is a definite must in his new home. Rowland would do best in a home with other dogs, as he is very dog-social. He is not leash trained and will need an owner who is willing to help him with leash training, or is ok with not taking Rowland on walks. Rowland is a cute and quirky fella who may take more than one meeting to get to know. If you have the time and patience to get to know a dog like Rowland, you will find that the reward is 100% worth it! Rowland is neutered, has a microchip and his current vaccines. He is approximately one-year-old. If you would like to meet Rowland, please contact Chi Town Rescue to make an appointment for a meet and greet.  He would love to go home soon! Call 602-526-0842 and/or email chitownrescue@gmail.com for a meet and greet appointment.  February 4, 2025, 11:11 pm

Story
Meet Uno! Uno came to Chi Town Rescue as part of a hoarding situation and is now looking for his furever home, or a foster home. Uno enjoys playing with his kennel mate Utah and the other dogs at rescue, however he does not like large dogs. Uno likes to play with toys and will fetch the tennis ball when he's out in the play yard, then run off with it (he's a bit of a toy hoarder). He also likes his kennel and doesn't mind chilling out when he's done playing for the day. Uno is evasive with people when he initially meets them. He will bark at you to warn you away, but trust us when we say that Uno is more scared of YOU than you are of him. Uno has really blossomed during his time at rescue. He loves being pet by those he knows. He will prance up to you and give you little love nibbles while he dances around you. Uno doesn't like to be held for more than a few seconds, and he has not yet learned the leash. He will need a home with an experienced owner that will be patient and willing to give him time to build trust and work on socializing him. He will also need a home with no small children, and a secure fenced yard. Uno does have a “micro” eye but it's nothing that affects him or his health.  Uno is approximately four-years-old, is neutered, has a microchip and current vaccines. If you think Uno would be a good fit in your home, please contact Chi Town Rescue to make an appointment to meet him. He would love to go home soon! Story
Meet Mr. Pickles... he's kinda a big dill around here. ;-) Mr. Pickles is an approximately three-year-old, 16-pound male Chihuahua mix, looking for his forever home through Chi Town Rescue. Pickles was found as a stray by a local business, and we agreed to take him in. He wasn't wearing a collar or tag and didn't have a microchip. Attempts to locate his owner were unsuccessful, so Pickles is on the search for a forever family this time around! Pickles is a social dog who enjoys meeting new people and getting pets. We will say that the pets are on HIS terms, though! Pickles, just like his namesake, can be both salty and sweet. He will sometimes give a growl when being pet to let you know that he's done, thanks very much. Pickles also does not like being picked up or reached for too suddenly. Because of these quirks, we feel Pickles will do best in an adult-only home with an experienced owner. Pickles is tolerant of the other dogs in his play group, but mostly just wants to be right next to his humans. He would be just as happy being an only-dog and soaking up all the love and attention. Pickles has a moderate energy level overall and would love to do some active things with you, then curl up for a nap. Does Pickles sound like the flavor you've been looking for in a new canine buddy? Email chitownrescue@gmail.com for more information/meet and greet appointment! Mr. Pickle's adoption fee includes neuter surgery, vaccinations up to date including Rabies certificate, and microchip.November 5, 2025, 3:07 am

Story
Miso CUTE!! This absolutely adorable Chihuahua-mix male puppy was born September 5, 2025 and is adoptable through Chi Town Rescue. Miso and his litter-mates were born to mama Meiko, shortly after she was rescued as a stray hiding under a trailer. Miso is the "runt" of the litter and is small but mighty! Miso loves to run and play and is discovering all the fun things about being a puppy- things like toys, snuggles and chew bones. Think of all the new and fun things you can discover together! Remember that while puppies are cute, they are also work! Please make sure you are ready for the commitment of adopting a young dog. Puppies become adult dogs and are meant to be loved for their whole life, not just until they grow up. Puppies will need lots of patience to help them learn their best doggy manners, leash-training, and house-training. Adoption fees are $475 per puppy and include vaccinations, microchip, and eventual neuter surgery at the PAWS clinic on Cave Creek Road in Phoenix. Per our vet, we do not alter puppies until around five months, which helps with hormone development and bone growth. Adopters will sign a contract that you will bring your puppy to the PAWS clinic for neuter surgery, sometime in February 2026. Email us at chitownrescue@gmail.com for more information/meet and greet appointment!November 29, 2025, 1:13 am
