Story
Hi everyone! My name is Baby and I am a sweet, laid back 8-pound, 10 year-old female Chihuahua mix who wants nothing more than to cuddle and love you.  I may take a little bit to warm up at first as I’m still a little cautious with strangers but I do warm up quickly, especially if you have a little treat you wanted to share with me. I am house-trained and my favorite thing is to sleep and watch tv with you.  I know I would make an excellent addition to your loving home.  I get along fine with small dogs in my foster home but as I am older now I don’t play as much Baby is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee of $250 helps offset the rescue's medical expenses. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*: Adoption Application - Help A Dog Smile .  *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up. May 2, 2024, 11:10 pm

Story
Hi, my name is Jasper and I am a 9 month old chihuahua/doxie mix pup  looking for my forever home.  My foster mom says I am an awesome pup with many great qualities. I was found in a construction dumpster and lucky for me a good samaritan heard my cries and rescued me.  These nice rescue folks took me in and now I live in a foster home with other dogs.  I get along great with the other l dogs in the foster home.  I run in  the yard with them and if they don’t want to play I play with toys.    Jasper is doing well with housetraining to a dog door.  He is still a puppy and as with all puppies he needs his owners to continue his training so that he will become the best family dog.  We do not know if Jasper likes kids or cats but we suspect he will as he is a happy little guy who likes everyone.     Jasper  is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. His adoption fee of $350 helps offset the rescue's medical expenses. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think he could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*:     Adoption Application - Help A Dog Smile .    *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Story
Hey you!! I'm Pimenta and I'm a little girl, but my heart is big, big, BIG! I LOVE being held and talked to. I enjoy playing with other smaller or medium-sized dogs and I especially love human kids! They seem to love me too. I dunno why. Maybe it is because I’m a tiny girl at only 11 pounds or because my fur is soft like a chinchilla. Sometimes they call me a chinchihuahua lol! I came to Help a Dog Smile with four baby puppies. I did not have the most pampered life before, so I was grateful these kind people took me in, helped me raise my puppies and helped me get some vet care that I needed. I feel great now and I’m a spunky but also mellow girl. I would fit in well with almost any pack and would love to have a furever home with at least one other dog. I am fairly low maintenance, and you may not even notice me sometimes because I curl up in a little ball and love to take naps through the day. I enjoy walks, playtime, and treats. I know how to use a dog door and eat only the tiniest amount of food twice a day. I would make a great addition to any family. I'm up to date on shots, spayed, dewormed, and microchipped! And I'm looking for my forever family...I'm not disposable for any reason like marriage, divorce, moving, babies...ANY reason whatsoever! If you are interested in making me a permanent member of your family, please fill out our online application: https://www.helpadogsmile.org/adopt/. My adoption fee is $350.  *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Story
Hi, my name is Katie.  I am a 3 1/2 years old female chihuahua. My foster mom says I am 6.5 pounds of cuteness.  I have a playful personality but I am also a gentle little girl.  I am potty trained, not destructive, and I get along great with people and small dogs.  With all my great qualities it is no wonder folks love me! I am in a foster home with 3 small dogs and they are showing me how to be a good little dog.   At 6.5 pounds, I am too small to be outside unsupervised. So please always be outside with me to protect me.  I am sorry but I am not suited for apartments.  I am looking for a forever family that will continue my training so I can become the best companion for your family.   Mostly I want a family that will love me and care for me THE REST OF MY LIFE, which could easily be 13-15 years or more.   Katie has been micro-chipped, Spay and is up to date on shots. Her adoption fee of 350.00 will help with medical needs of the rescue group. If you are interested in Katie and live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you. please complete an adoption application*: https://helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application/.  * An application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match.  Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up. Story
Do you have a little room on your lap for April?  That's her favorite place to be. What she lacks in size she more than makes up for in personality. April is a 3 ½ -year-old, 8 pound, Chihuahua. She enjoys roaming around the yard and lying on the sunny patio. She is house-trained but due to her small size she needs to be supervised at all times when she is outside.  If you're home a lot and looking for an ideal companion, your search is over. April will be happy to be with you all day and night. She asks very little in return for the pleasure she gives. Just come and meet her and you'll see what we mean.  April gets along very well with other small dogs. She likes people but would probably prefer a quieter home without small children running around. As with any dog, a new environment and new routines means April may need a refresher course in housetraining.   April is spayed, up to date on shots and microchipped.  If you are interested in making April a permanent member of your family, please fill out our online  application* at:    https://helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application .  April’s adoption fee of $350 helps with medical expenses of the rescue.  Thank you for “thinking rescue”.  Phoenix metro adoptions only.        * An application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match.  Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up. Story
Is your four-legged friend lonely? Are you looking for the perfect fur-ever friend for your fur baby? At only 8 lbs., Beth is an active and agile girl who loves to run and play. Even though she is a bit of a wallflower, Beth is partial to the company of other dog-friends as well as female humans. She would prefer her new home to be more on the quite side, and that her adopter be patient and give her time while she learns to trust. Beth is clearly an Arizona girl who loves to be outside, go on short walks, and sunbathe on the rocks. Even though Beth may not be big on human cuddles, she does love her puppy snuggles and would make an excellent companion for your lonely pet at home. If you’re looking to give your fur friend a best friend, Beth is your girl! (If you have a heart big enough for two, Beth would love to be adopted with her friend, Poppy. While Beth can be adopted separately, she has become good friends with Poppy in their foster home.) **Adoption fee includes: vaccinations, spay, dental, dewormed, labwork, and microchipped. (At this time, we only do adoptions in the Phoenix valley and surrounding cities – within a 60 mile radius.) IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MEETING BETH, PLEASE FIRST FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://pepperspals.org/adoption-application/

Story
Meet Justin!!! He is looking for his fur-ever hero to adopt him. We think he is about 10-12 years old and would need a home that understands his needs. He's a very shy senior who has probably had a tough life prior to arriving at the shelter. He was skipped over by many rescues and adopter due to his shy and defensive behavior. Justin is more of a ladies man we think and would prefer a no kid, female only home. He does not like to be picked up or put on leash so he can be a challenge. He does like to sit on his blankets and enjoy some sunshine near the window.  Justin requires a diet that includes some lunch meat mixed into his kibble.. yep turkey needs to be included if you want him to tolerate kibble.. hot dogs work too. I am assuming his life as a stray or unkept chi chi meant he was thrown scraps and developed a taste for the people food. We know we are looking for a unicorn of an adopter but felt this kid deserves a chance off the streets/shelter to have a real home.. He is located in Cave Creek, AZ for meet & greets. He is using potty pads and an x-pen but will go in a kennel if needed for traveling in and out of an enclosed dog run. Again.. he will not tolerate leash walking so you will need a place contained to make potty breaks better for all involved. Adoption Fee is $200. He has been vet checked, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped.       April 30, 2024, 11:26 pm

Story
PWRESCUE.ORG **PHOENIX METRO AREA ONLY** Tito is a very sweet 2-year-old, 12 pound Chihuahua mix boy. His adorable underbite and sweet temperament are an instant hit with all who meet him! He is about as close to perfect as they come…potty trained, loves walks, likes to ride in the car, snuggles, gives kisses… His long legs and athletic skills mean he loves to run zoomies and would love a new home with a nice backyard to run in and explore. He would love a home where at least one person is home most of the time and will need another playful dog to hang out with. While he loves being active, he also loves to snuggle up with his person. He's great with kids and most other dogs and does fine with cats. He is used to being around other playful dogs and can be a chill dude as well. Any children in the home should be at least 12 years old and of a kind, respectful nature. Tito is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. He will go to his new home with a collar, harness and leash. His adoption fee is $300.00.  Pathways Home Animal Rescue May 2, 2024, 9:00 pm

Story
PWRESCUE.ORG *PHOENIX METRO AREA ONLY* Meet Parker, a 10-month-old terrier mix puppy. Parker is shy, but don't let that fool you. Once he warms up to you, he's a bundle of affection, ready to shower you with puppy love. He's still learning about the world, and needs a little help with socialization and regular puppy training, including leash training, potty training and all of the other fun puppy stuff!   Parker will require another playful dog in the home to show him the ropes and help build his confidence and a secure, fenced yard.  Any children in the home should be at least 12 years old and of a kind, gentle nature due to his shyness.  Adopting Parker means opening your home to a loyal companion who will fill your days with joy, laughter, and love! Parker is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and microchipped. His adoption fee is $400.00.
