You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. PLEASE NOTE: If you are on PetFinder or other search site, you do NOT need to introduce yourself.  All dogs on our website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is in the dogs bio below.         Bear – Sweet, Sleepy, and Searching for a Forever Home to Heal His Heart Bear is the kind of dog who makes you slow down, smile, and appreciate the quiet moments. This senior gentleman is soft, gentle, and incredibly affectionate — a dog who has weathered loss but still leans into love with his whole heart. He spends much of his time curled up in his small playpen, dozing on soft blankets, happy to watch the world from the safety of his cozy space. He uses wee-wee pads in his pen and will bark when he needs to go outside. Bear’s world was turned upside down when his devoted owner passed away. It’s obvious he was treasured — he loves being touched, being spoken to softly, and soaking up every bit of attention he can get. What he wants now is a calm, patient human who will help him feel safe again. He’s learning how to walk on a leash with a harness, but it’s still new and a little scary, so a fenced yard would help him feel calmer and more secure. Bear gets along with small female dogs but can be standoffish with males. He hasn’t been around kids or cats, but his gentle nature suggests he’d prefer a peaceful home with routines and reassurance. Bear is mostly quiet, giving a small bark only when he needs something important. He’s low-energy, happy to nap, stroll around a yard, and curl up at your feet. He could be an only dog if someone is home much of the day — a retiree or a work-from-home adopter would be perfect. &#226&#156&#168 Bear needs someone willing to give an overlooked senior a real chance. He is sweet. He is snuggly. He is heartbreakingly grateful for even the smallest kindness. If you give Bear a home, he will fill your days with warmth, loyalty, and quiet companionship. He just needs someone who will say, “Your story isn’t over yet.” EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Bears owner passed away and BFPA is helping him find his forever home.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. This senior sweetheart spends most of his days snoozing peacefully in his cozy playpen, where he feels secure and comforted. He uses wee-wee pads reliably in his space and will bark politely when he needs to go outside — a sweet little reminder of how hard he tries to do everything right, even at his age. Life has recently changed for Rebel in the most heartbreaking way. His beloved owner passed away, and Rebel has been grieving in his own quiet, gentle way. It’s clear he was cherished deeply, and he’s still searching for that sense of love and safety. He’s learning to walk with a harness and isn’t quite confident yet, so a fenced yard would make his world feel less scary. He’s okay with small female dogs and prefers to avoid pushy males. Children and cats are unknowns, and he’d be happiest in a calm, patient home — ideally with someone home most of the time or a senior who wants a soothing companion. Rebel isn’t demanding. He’s low-energy, soft-hearted, and easy to love. Mostly quiet, he saves his voice only to ask for something he needs. He adores snuggling, being gently doted on, and settling into a plush bed with someone close by. Rebel needs an angel — someone who sees the beauty in an old dog who just wants to belong again. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, gratitude-filled companion, Rebel will give you every ounce of affection he has left. His golden years deserve to be golden — maybe you’re the one who can make that happen. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Rebel's owner passed away and he has come to BFPA to find a forever home. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. PLEASE NOTE:  All Best Friend Pet Adoption dogs require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  Please submit our  dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window: https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC Rowdy – Playful, Loyal, and Ready to Love His Forever Family Rowdy is a charming 8 year old adult pup with a joyful spirit and a deep appreciation for comfort, closeness, and adventure. He’s crate trained and happily settles into his pen with a simple “go to bed,” especially if he knows a small reward is coming his way. House training is still in progress — he hasn’t quite learned how to signal when he needs to go out.  But he responds beautifully to outdoor praise and is making gradual improvements. Rowdy has been learning leash manners and is showing promising progress. He loves free play in the yard or a relaxing stroller ride.  With a patient adopter, he’ll be a solid walker in no time. He’s shy with new people at first, but once in your arms, Rowdy transforms into a confident, affectionate little guy. When he met new family members on a beach trip, he warmed up immediately and spent the day enjoying snuggles. His behavior with other dogs is similar — timid initially, but with the potential to make canine friends through gentle introduction. Quiet by default, Rowdy occasionally barks when startled. Apartment life would suit him fine, and he’s perfectly capable of being an only dog. His energy level sits at a lively moderate — he loves to play and roam outdoors with his buddy Mary Jane, and go on long walks, but he’s equally thrilled to curl up on a warm lap. Why adopt Rowdy? Because he’s irresistibly cute, affectionate, and fun-loving. He adores being outside, loves riding in a stroller, and would thrive tagging along to festivals, patios, or just cozying up at home. He’s cheerful, loyal, and greets each morning with pure happiness — the perfect companion for someone wanting a sweet adult dog who gives his whole heart. Story
Meet Abigail — a 7&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old, 6 lb Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix with a heart as soft as the cozy blankets she loves to curl up in.   Quick Facts: Name: Abigail Breed: Chihuahua/Pomeranian Mix Age: 7 years old Weight: 6 lbs. House-Trained: Yes (and pee pad trained) Crate-Trained: No Good with Dogs: Yes (prefers calmer dogs) Good with Cats: Not yet tested Good with Kids: Yes Energy Level: Low (couch potato/snuggle buddy) Fence Required: No, but preferred if you have a fence   About Abigail Breed: Our best guess is that Abigail is a Chihuahua/Pomeranian mixed breed. A Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix is a tiny, affectionate companion with a lively personality and a big heart. They’re smart, people&#226&#128&#145oriented, and love being close to their family. Their ideal home is a calm, loving environment where they get plenty of attention, gentle structure, and short bursts of play or activity. They thrive with owners who enjoy snuggles, companionship, and having a little shadow by their side.   What to Love about Abigail: Abigail is fully house trained and pee&#226&#128&#145pad trained, and because she’s so respectful and calm at home, she doesn’t need a crate and can be trusted while you’re away. She doesn’t love being left alone, though, and would be happiest with someone who is home often or with a gentle doggie companion to keep her company.   She’s not a big fan of leashes, but she enjoys exploring the yard and never wanders far from her person. A fenced yard isn’t required—she simply prefers to toddle around freely rather than walk on a leash. Abigail is incredibly friendly with everyone, including kids, and she gets along well with other dogs, especially those who are calm like she is. She hasn’t met cats yet, but her mellow nature suggests she’d likely do just fine.   With her low energy level, Abigail is all about snuggling! She warms up quickly despite being a little scared at first, and once she trusts you, she becomes the sweetest little shadow—happy to be in your lap, beside your kids, or nestled into a soft bed. She is gentle, quiet, and endlessly affectionate!   Abigail is a tiny, tender soul looking for a peaceful home where she can be loved, held, and cherished. Whoever adopts her will gain a devoted snuggle buddy and one of the sweetest companions imaginable!     Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. As part of our commitment to responsible adoption practices, we require excellent veterinarian references and conduct virtual home visits. Additionally, your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We assist with coordinating transportation by both land and air whenever feasible. All assessments regarding breed and age are conducted by licensed veterinarians. We look forward to assisting you in finding your perfect canine companion!January 6, 2026, 3:21 pm

Story
Meet Capri — a 1&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old Chihuahua mix with a heart full of sweetness and a mission in life: to be loved, snuggled, and curled up in your lap.   Quick Facts: Name: Capri Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 1 year old Weight: 6.6 lbs. House-Trained: Working on it (doing well with going outside and on pee pads)! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes Energy Level: Low (total lap pet) Fence Required: No   About Capri’s Breed: Our best guess is that Capri is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are known for their big personalities in tiny bodies, often forming incredibly strong bonds with their favorite people. They’re affectionate, expressive, and loyal companions who love to snuggle just as much as they enjoy exploring the world at their own pace. Despite their small size, they’re confident, alert, and full of charm.   An ideal home for a Chihuahua is one that offers gentle handling, consistency, and plenty of companionship. They thrive with families who appreciate their sensitive nature and can provide a calm, loving environment. Because they bond so closely with their humans, they do especially well in homes where someone is around often and where their cozy, cuddly side can shine.     What to Love about Capri: Capri is the definition of a true companion. She is quite the lovebug, so if you’re sitting down, she’s already on her way to claim her favorite spot… right on you!   Capri is doing wonderfully with her potty training and even uses a pee pad in the home. With a bit of consistency and routine, she’ll keep improving. She’s crate trained and can relax in her crate when you’re away, though she’d much prefer to be with her people — especially if they have an open lap. She adores everyone she meets, including kids, and she’s been fantastic with other dogs, cats, and even farm animals like goats and chickens.   She’s a gentle, easygoing, and slightly submissive little lady who may get spooked but recovers quickly. Her foster mom has never even heard her bark! Capri is a low&#226&#128&#145energy couch potato at heart, but she enjoys going for walks and exploring the outdoors before settling in for a cozy nap. Did we mention how much she loves being in any open lap??   Her favorite pastime, though, is being carried, cuddled, and doted on — her foster family lovingly calls her Capri Sun because she’s just that sweet!   Capri’s Highlights: 1&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old Chihuahua mix with a loving, lap&#226&#128&#145dog personality Potty training is going well; also knows how to use a pee pad Crate trained and can stay in a crate when you’re away Adores everyone — especially kids who love to snuggle Great with dogs, cats, and even farm animals like goats and chickens Low&#226&#128&#145energy, easygoing, and more on the submissive side Loves walks but is happiest napping in your lap Rarely barks and has wonderful house manners Ideal for someone who is home often and ready to give her all the cuddles she craves   Capri is a joyful, affectionate, go&#226&#128&#145with&#226&#128&#145the&#226&#128&#145flow companion who will make someone incredibly happy. If you’re home often and have room in your heart (and your lap), she’s ready to be your little shadow and your best friend!     Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. Story
Meet Miso — a 6&#226&#128&#145month&#226&#128&#145old, 7 lb Chihuahua mix with a whole lot of sweetness packed into her tiny frame.   Quick Facts: Name: Miso Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 6 months old Weight: 7 lbs. House-Trained: Almost there! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes, but can be a little mouthy when she plays, so older kids are best Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: No   About Miso’s Breed: Our best guess is that Miso is a Chihuahua mixed breed Chihuahuas are known for their big personalities in tiny bodies, often forming strong bonds with their favorite people. They’re alert, expressive, and full of charm, with a playful streak that makes them endlessly entertaining. Despite their small size, they’re confident little companions who love being involved in whatever their humans are doing.   An ideal home for a Chihuahua is one that offers gentle handling, companionship, and a sense of security. They thrive with families who understand their delicate size and can provide a calm environment, cozy spots to snuggle, and positive guidance. Because they bond closely with their people, they do best in homes where they’re not left alone for long periods and where their affectionate, spirited nature can shine.   What to Love about Miso: This little girl is the perfect blend of playful puppy energy and cuddly lap&#226&#128&#145dog charm! When she’s not bouncing around with her toys or exploring the world on her walks, she’s happiest curled up in your lap, soaking in all the love she can get!   Miso is mostly potty trained but still has the occasional puppy accident as she continues learning. She’s already crate trained and will need to be crated when left alone since she’s still young and curious enough to get into things. She can be a bit of a “little guardian” with her toys and food, but she’s learning quickly and responds well to gentle guidance. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, does great with cats, and enjoys meeting people! Because of her puppy mouthiness, she’d do best with school&#226&#128&#145aged kids who understand how to respect her boundaries.   She walks nicely on a leash, rides well in the car, and is picking up basic commands. With her medium energy level, she’s just as happy playing as she is relaxing. Miso is an easygoing, loving puppy who’s ready to bring joy, fun, and lots of snuggles to her forever family!   Miso’s Highlights: 6&#226&#128&#145month&#226&#128&#145old, 7 lb Chihuahua mix with an adorable mix of puppy energy and lap&#226&#128&#145dog sweetness Mostly potty trained and already crate trained Great with dogs, cats, and people; best with school&#226&#128&#145aged kids due to puppy mouthiness Walks well on a leash and enjoys exploring the world Loves toys, playtime, and then curling up in your lap afterward Rides well in the car and is learning basic commands Can be a little guardian of her toys and food but improving with guidance Easygoing, loving, and ready to bring fun and affection to her forever home   If you’re looking for a tiny companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Miso is your girl.   Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/.
