You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. PLEASE NOTE: If you are on PetFinder or other search site, you do NOT need to introduce yourself.  All dogs on our website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is in the dogs bio below.         Bear – Sweet, Sleepy, and Searching for a Forever Home to Heal His Heart Bear and Rebel are being fostered together.  They are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together.  Can you open your heart to two senior dogs?  Best Friend Pet Adoption will reduce their adoption fees.   Bear is the kind of dog who makes you slow down, smile, and appreciate the quiet moments. This senior gentleman is soft, gentle, and incredibly affectionate — a dog who has weathered loss but still leans into love with his whole heart. He spends much of his time curled up in his small playpen, dozing on soft blankets, happy to watch the world from the safety of his cozy space. He uses wee-wee pads in his pen and will bark when he needs to go outside. Bear’s world was turned upside down when his devoted owner passed away. It’s obvious he was treasured — he loves being touched, being spoken to softly, and soaking up every bit of attention he can get. What he wants now is a calm, patient human who will help him feel safe again. He’s learning how to walk on a leash with a harness, but it’s still new and a little scary, so a fenced yard would help him feel calmer and more secure. Bear gets along with small female dogs but can be standoffish with males. He hasn’t been around kids or cats, but his gentle nature suggests he’d prefer a peaceful home with routines and reassurance. Bear is mostly quiet, giving a small bark only when he needs something important. He’s low-energy, happy to nap, stroll around a yard, and curl up at your feet. He is very bonded with Rebel who came from the same home.  They need to be adopted together and Best Friend Pet Adoption will reduce their adoption fees.   &#226&#156&#168 Bear needs someone willing to give an overlooked senior a real chance. He is sweet. He is snuggly. He is heartbreakingly grateful for even the smallest kindness. If you give Bear a home, he will fill your days with warmth, loyalty, and quiet companionship. He just needs someone who will say, “Your story isn’t over yet.” EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Bears owner passed away and BFPA is helping him find his forever home.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. This senior sweetheart spends most of his days snoozing peacefully in his cozy playpen, where he feels secure and comforted. He uses wee-wee pads reliably in his space and will bark politely when he needs to go outside — a sweet little reminder of how hard he tries to do everything right, even at his age. Life has recently changed for Rebel in the most heartbreaking way. His beloved owner passed away, and Rebel has been grieving in his own quiet, gentle way. It’s clear he was cherished deeply, and he’s still searching for that sense of love and safety. He’s learning to walk with a harness and isn’t quite confident yet, so a fenced yard would make his world feel less scary. He’s okay with small female dogs and prefers to avoid pushy males. Children and cats are unknowns, and he’d be happiest in a calm, patient home — ideally with someone home most of the time or a senior who wants a soothing companion. Rebel isn’t demanding. He’s low-energy, soft-hearted, and easy to love. Mostly quiet, he saves his voice only to ask for something he needs. He adores snuggling, being gently doted on, and settling into a plush bed with someone close by. He is very bonded with Bear who came from the same home.  So Rebel and Bear need to be adopted together.  Best Friend Pet Adoption will reduce their adoption fees.   Rebel needs an angel — someone who sees the beauty in an old dog who just wants to belong again. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, gratitude-filled companion, Rebel will give you every ounce of affection he has left. His golden years deserve to be golden — maybe you’re the one who can make that happen. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Rebel's owner passed away and he has come to BFPA to find a forever home. Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. We prefer applicants who live in the Raleigh NC area since our fosters deliver the dogs to their new homes.  We also provide medical care if needed during the trial period and our vets are in the Raleigh area.   I NTERESTED IN ADOPTING REBEL? You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. PLEASE NOTE:  All Best Friend Pet Adoption dogs require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  Please submit our  dog adoption application by copying and pasting this link in a new browser window: https://toolkit.rescuegroups.org/of/f?c=WHMSYCNC Rowdy – Playful, Loyal, and Ready to Love His Forever Family Rowdy is a charming 8 year old adult pup with a joyful spirit and a deep appreciation for comfort, closeness, and adventure. He’s crate trained, housebroken and happily settles into his pen with a simple “go to bed,” especially if he knows a small reward is coming his way. Rowdy is leash trained and loves to go for long walks.  He also likes free play in the yard or a relaxing stroller ride. He would like a fenced yard but can do well on a leash.   He’s shy with new people at first, but once in your arms, Rowdy transforms into a confident, affectionate little guy. When he met new family members on a beach trip, he warmed up immediately and spent the day enjoying snuggles. His behavior with other dogs is similar — timid initially, but with the potential to make canine friends through gentle introduction. Quiet by default, Rowdy occasionally barks when startled. Apartment life would suit him fine, and he’s perfectly capable of being an only dog. His energy level sits at a lively moderate — he loves to play and roam outdoors with his buddy Mary Jane, and go on long walks, but he’s equally thrilled to curl up on a warm lap. Why adopt Rowdy? Because he’s irresistibly cute, affectionate, and fun-loving. He adores being outside, loves riding in a stroller, and would thrive tagging along to festivals, patios, or just cozying up at home. He’s cheerful, loyal, and greets each morning with pure happiness — the perfect companion for someone wanting a sweet adult dog who gives his whole heart. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Rowdy's owner passed away and he has come to BFPA to find his new home.  Can you give Rowdy a new home filled with love?  He wants to snuggle with you!  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants ideally should live no more than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore prefer to adopt locally in the Cary NC area.  For the perfect home for Rowdy, we may consider a distance a bit further.   INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ROWDY? Meet Cinnamon – A Devoted Little Shadow with a Big Personality Quick Facts: Breed: Chihuahua Age: 7 years Weight: 5 lbs House-Trained: Mostly – prefers outside and uses pads Crate-Trained: Not needed Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not tested Good with Kids: No – adult-only home required Energy Level: Low Fence Required: No – extra security precautions required on leash Special Traits: Extremely loyal, lap lover, protective, thrives on routine Why You’ll Love Cinnamon: Deeply devoted and bonds intensely with her person Loves laps, being held, and constant companionship Confidently struts outside to potty like part of the pack Low energy and ideal for apartment or retired living Small, quiet companion in her home environment About Cinnamon’s Breed: Chihuahuas are known for their fierce loyalty and strong bonds with “their person.” They are intelligent, expressive, and often protective of the ones they love most. Cinnamon embodies the classic Chihuahua personality — tiny in size, enormous in devotion, and happiest when close to her chosen human. Cinnamon’s Story & Personality: Cinnamon is the definition of loyal. Like a typical Chi, she will choose her person and follow them everywhere like a tiny shadow. She must be in the same room as her human and won’t truly relax until she is. She adores laying in her person’s lap and being held, though she does have independent moments where simply sharing space is enough. She is fairly quiet and content when home with her person, but she is protective and can become very verbal if she perceives a threat — especially when someone enters the home or when she is taken out of her environment. Because of her intense loyalty, she can be vocal in new places or around unfamiliar people. Her foster has been working on calming techniques and is incredibly proud of the progress she’s made. Cinnamon prefers to potty outside and proudly marches out with the pack to do her business, taking her job very seriously. She does not want to be carried and enjoys confidently walking the area. She mostly uses potty pads indoors if needed. She thrives on routine and can be fearful of sudden movements or change, so her adopter must take extra precautions with leash security and transitions outside the home. Cinnamon’s Ideal Home: Adult-only household Quiet, calm environment Someone home most of the time Retired individual or apartment living is ideal An adopter who understands Chihuahua loyalty and protective tendencies Someone committed to secure leash handling and consistent routine Ready to Welcome a Tiny, Fiercely Loyal Companion? Cinnamon is looking for her person — the one she can adore, follow, and love with her whole tiny heart. If you’re seeking a deeply devoted, low-energy companion who thrives on closeness and routine, Cinnamon may be your perfect match. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. Story
Meet PoppyLeigh — a 8 month old, 12 lb Chihuahua with three legs and a brave little heart. Quick Facts: Name: PoppyLeigh Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 8 months old Weight: 12 lbs. House-Trained: Almost! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not yet tested Good with Kids: No Energy Level: Medium to high, very playful Fence Required: Yes, this is a must! About PoppyLeigh’s Breed: Our best guess is that PoppyLeigh is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are bold, confident and loyal. They are affectionate with their people but can be wary of strangers but warm up quickly. They are intelligent and trainable, though they may be a little stubborn at times, but they keep it interesting! They are also known to be vocal and love to “chit chat”! What to Love about PoppyLeigh: PoppyLeigh is a happy, playful, energetic puppy who loves to explore and be near her humans. She is almost fully potty trained, uses pee pads, and is crate trained — she even runs into her crate for treats and sleeps quietly through the night. Because she’s still learning about leashes and can be timid in new situations, a fenced in yard is required so she can safely build confidence at her own pace. PoppyLeigh is shy when meeting new people, but with patience and gentle handling, she will eventually warm up. Her person needs to be very patient and calm, giving her as much time as she needs to fully open up and trust. She enjoys the company of other dogs, and would love a canine friend to play with. She hasn’t met cats yet, but her nature suggests she’d likely be fine. PoppyLeigh had a growth plate that didn't fully close in one leg and had surgery to have one of her legs removed, but that doesn't affect her quality of life or slow her down one bit! She is faster and gets around just like every other dog! PoppyLeigh’s Highlights: • 8 month old, 6 lb Chihuahua with a stable orthopedic difference that doesn’t affect her comfort or happiness • Has three legs - but gets around better than most dogs with 41! • Almost fully potty trained, uses pee pads, and crate trained (sleeps quietly all night!) • Fence required — still learning about leashes and feels safest exploring freely • Timid at first but warms up with gentle, patient introductions, so she will need someone who can give her time to open up • Comfortable around other dogs • Medium to high puppy energy and loves to play • Very smart, trainable, and eager to please • Loves being near her humans and would enjoy a doggie friend for company Smart, loving, trainable, and full of joy — PoppyLeigh is ready to bring her unique charm and endless affection to the forever family who will adore her just as she is! Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Sheeba’s Story & Personality: Sheeba is a sweet, gentle girl who may be a little shy when meeting adults at first, but once she opens up, she becomes a complete love bug. She adores being close to her people and prefers to spend her time snuggled in a lap or tucked under a blanket at your feet. She truly just wants to be with her person at all times.
