You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. PLEASE NOTE: If you are on PetFinder or other search site, you do NOT need to introduce yourself.  All dogs on our website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is in the dogs bio below.         Bear – Sweet, Sleepy, and Searching for a Forever Home to Heal His Heart Bear is the kind of dog who makes you slow down, smile, and appreciate the quiet moments. This senior gentleman is soft, gentle, and incredibly affectionate — a dog who has weathered loss but still leans into love with his whole heart. He spends much of his time curled up in his small playpen, dozing on soft blankets, happy to watch the world from the safety of his cozy space. He uses wee-wee pads in his pen and will bark when he needs to go outside. Bear’s world was turned upside down when his devoted owner passed away. It’s obvious he was treasured — he loves being touched, being spoken to softly, and soaking up every bit of attention he can get. What he wants now is a calm, patient human who will help him feel safe again. He’s learning how to walk on a leash with a harness, but it’s still new and a little scary, so a fenced yard would help him feel calmer and more secure. Bear gets along with small female dogs but can be standoffish with males. He hasn’t been around kids or cats, but his gentle nature suggests he’d prefer a peaceful home with routines and reassurance. Bear is mostly quiet, giving a small bark only when he needs something important. He’s low-energy, happy to nap, stroll around a yard, and curl up at your feet. He could be an only dog if someone is home much of the day — a retiree or a work-from-home adopter would be perfect. &#226&#156&#168 Bear needs someone willing to give an overlooked senior a real chance. He is sweet. He is snuggly. He is heartbreakingly grateful for even the smallest kindness. If you give Bear a home, he will fill your days with warmth, loyalty, and quiet companionship. He just needs someone who will say, “Your story isn’t over yet.” EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Bears owner passed away and BFPA is helping him find his forever home.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. This petite sweetheart has taken well to crate life — she happily trots to her pen when told “go to bed,” especially if there’s a tiny treat involved. While she’s still working on house training, she responds warmly to praise and is improving with consistency. She’s gradually getting the hang of leash walking.  She loves free play in the yard or a calming stroller ride. With patience and practice, Mary Jane is showing she can become a reliable little walker. New people can feel a bit intimidating to her at first, but if she’s being held, she blossoms quickly. On a beach outing, she was snuggling with her foster’s family by day one — a perfect example of her affectionate nature once she feels safe. She’s also timid around other dogs but shows potential for positive introductions. Mary Jane is mostly quiet, with the occasional alert bark when startled. She would do well in an apartment setting and can absolutely be an only dog. Her energy level is moderate — she loves exploring with her buddy Rowdy, but she’s just as thrilled to curl up in your lap for hours. A fenced yard isn’t required; she’ll do fine with leash walks for potty breaks and exercise. Why adopt Mary Jane? Because she’s an adorable, devoted little companion who brings joy with her snuggles, gentle playfulness, and her happy morning greetings. She’s fun, she’s loving, and she’s ready to be someone’s cherished best friend. He’s crate trained and happily settles into his pen with a simple “go to bed,” especially if he knows a small reward is coming his way. House training is still in progress — he hasn’t quite learned how to signal when he needs to go out.  But he responds beautifully to outdoor praise and is making gradual improvements. Rowdy has been learning leash manners and is showing promising progress. He loves free play in the yard or a relaxing stroller ride.  With a patient adopter, he’ll be a solid walker in no time. He’s shy with new people at first, but once in your arms, Rowdy transforms into a confident, affectionate little guy. When he met new family members on a beach trip, he warmed up immediately and spent the day enjoying snuggles. His behavior with other dogs is similar — timid initially, but with the potential to make canine friends through gentle introduction. Quiet by default, Rowdy occasionally barks when startled. Apartment life would suit him fine, and he’s perfectly capable of being an only dog. His energy level sits at a lively moderate — he loves to play and roam outdoors with his buddy Mary Jane, and go on long walks, but he’s equally thrilled to curl up on a warm lap. Why adopt Rowdy? Because he’s irresistibly cute, affectionate, and fun-loving. He adores being outside, loves riding in a stroller, and would thrive tagging along to festivals, patios, or just cozying up at home. He’s cheerful, loyal, and greets each morning with pure happiness — the perfect companion for someone wanting a sweet adult dog who gives his whole heart. Rebel – A Gentle Old Soul Looking for One Last Great Love Rebel has lived a full life, and now he’s quietly hoping for something simple and precious: a safe lap, a soft bed, and a human who won’t let him be forgotten. This senior sweetheart spends most of his days snoozing peacefully in his cozy playpen, where he feels secure and comforted. He uses wee-wee pads reliably in his space and will bark politely when he needs to go outside — a sweet little reminder of how hard he tries to do everything right, even at his age. Life has recently changed for Rebel in the most heartbreaking way. His beloved owner passed away, and Rebel has been grieving in his own quiet, gentle way. It’s clear he was cherished deeply, and he’s still searching for that sense of love and safety. He’s learning to walk with a harness and isn’t quite confident yet, so a fenced yard would make his world feel less scary. He’s okay with small female dogs and prefers to avoid pushy males. Children and cats are unknowns, and he’d be happiest in a calm, patient home — ideally with someone home most of the time or a senior who wants a soothing companion. Rebel isn’t demanding. He’s low-energy, soft-hearted, and easy to love. Mostly quiet, he saves his voice only to ask for something he needs. He adores snuggling, being gently doted on, and settling into a plush bed with someone close by. Rebel needs an angel — someone who sees the beauty in an old dog who just wants to belong again. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, gratitude-filled companion, Rebel will give you every ounce of affection he has left. His golden years deserve to be golden — maybe you’re the one who can make that happen. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Rebel's owner passed away and he has come to BFPA to find a forever home. Story
Meet Isabella — a 10-year-old, 7 lb Chihuahua mix with a gentle spirit and an adorable personality. Quick Facts: Name: Isabella Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 10 years old Weight: 7 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: No (doesn’t need a crate) Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not tested, likely would be fine Good with Kids: Only older, calmer children Energy Level: Low Fence Required: No (unless not using a leash to go outside) Special Needs: Can be timid at first until she feels safe About Isabella’s Breed: Our best guess is that Isabella is a Chihuahua mix. Chihuahuas are tiny dogs with big personalities, known for their confidence, loyalty, and affectionate nature. Despite their small size, they are bold and spirited, often acting as if they are much larger than they really are. An ideal home for a Chihuahua is one that provides gentle handling, consistent training, and lots of companionship. They thrive in apartments or houses alike, as long as they are kept safe and warm. Because they bond closely with their humans, they do best in homes where they aren’t left alone for long periods. Early socialization helps them feel comfortable with children and other pets, but their small size means they are safest in households where interactions are calm and respectful. All About Isabella: Isabella is a healthy, fully potty-trained girl who doesn’t need a crate thanks to her impeccable manners. She walks nicely on a leash and enjoys both potty breaks on walks and sniffing around the yard. Isabella is wonderful with people and loves to snuggle, though she would do best with older, calmer kids due to her age and size. She gets along well with other dogs in her foster home and, with her calm demeanor, would likely do fine with cats too. Isabella’s Highlights: • House trained, no crate needed • Dog-friendly, lives peacefully with several foster siblings • Loves people, prefers gentle, calm interactions • Lower energy, happiest snuggling and being loved • Timid at first, but blossoms with patience and trust • Adorable quirks, runs to her dog bed to be picked up, rolls over for belly rubs, and trots to bed at night for snuggles • Finding her voice, now makes cute “chi” barks and noises at dinnertime • Ideal home: quiet, patient household—best with a middle-aged or older individual or couple Isabella is a sweet, loyal companion who’s still coming out of her shell. She may be reserved at first, but once she feels safe, she reveals her loving, snuggly side—and even a touch of diva charm. She’s ready to spend her golden years in a calm, caring home where she can be cherished for the gentle soul she is. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Please note that questions via email or social media channels may not receive a response without a completed application. As part of our commitment to responsible adoption practices, we require excellent veterinarian references and conduct virtual home visits. Additionally, your prior or current dog must be on year-round heartworm prevention. We assist with coordinating transportation by both land and air whenever feasible. All assessments regarding breed and age are conducted by licensed veterinarians. We look forward to assisting you in finding your perfect canine companion!December 5, 2025, 9:56 am
