Meet Cinnamon – A Devoted Little Shadow with a Big Personality Quick Facts: Breed: Chihuahua Age: 7 years Weight: 5 lbs House-Trained: Mostly – prefers outside and uses pads Crate-Trained: Not needed Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not tested Good with Kids: No – adult-only home required Energy Level: Low Fence Required: No – extra security precautions required on leash Special Traits: Extremely loyal, lap lover, protective, thrives on routine Why You’ll Love Cinnamon: Deeply devoted and bonds intensely with her person Loves laps, being held, and constant companionship Confidently struts outside to potty like part of the pack Low energy and ideal for apartment or retired living Small, quiet companion in her home environment About Cinnamon’s Breed: Chihuahuas are known for their fierce loyalty and strong bonds with “their person.” They are intelligent, expressive, and often protective of the ones they love most. Cinnamon embodies the classic Chihuahua personality — tiny in size, enormous in devotion, and happiest when close to her chosen human. Cinnamon’s Story & Personality: Cinnamon is the definition of loyal. Like a typical Chi, she will choose her person and follow them everywhere like a tiny shadow. She must be in the same room as her human and won’t truly relax until she is. She adores laying in her person’s lap and being held, though she does have independent moments where simply sharing space is enough. She is fairly quiet and content when home with her person, but she is protective and can become very verbal if she perceives a threat — especially when someone enters the home or when she is taken out of her environment. Because of her intense loyalty, she can be vocal in new places or around unfamiliar people. Her foster has been working on calming techniques and is incredibly proud of the progress she’s made. Cinnamon prefers to potty outside and proudly marches out with the pack to do her business, taking her job very seriously. She does not want to be carried and enjoys confidently walking the area. She mostly uses potty pads indoors if needed. She thrives on routine and can be fearful of sudden movements or change, so her adopter must take extra precautions with leash security and transitions outside the home. Cinnamon’s Ideal Home: Adult-only household Quiet, calm environment Someone home most of the time Retired individual or apartment living is ideal An adopter who understands Chihuahua loyalty and protective tendencies Someone committed to secure leash handling and consistent routine Ready to Welcome a Tiny, Fiercely Loyal Companion? Cinnamon is looking for her person — the one she can adore, follow, and love with her whole tiny heart. If you’re seeking a deeply devoted, low-energy companion who thrives on closeness and routine, Cinnamon may be your perfect match. Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. Story
Meet PoppyLeigh — a 8 month old, 12 lb Chihuahua with three legs and a brave little heart. Quick Facts: Name: PoppyLeigh Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 8 months old Weight: 12 lbs. House-Trained: Almost! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Not yet tested Good with Kids: No Energy Level: Medium to high, very playful Fence Required: Yes, this is a must! About PoppyLeigh’s Breed: Our best guess is that PoppyLeigh is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are bold, confident and loyal. They are affectionate with their people but can be wary of strangers but warm up quickly. They are intelligent and trainable, though they may be a little stubborn at times, but they keep it interesting! They are also known to be vocal and love to “chit chat”! What to Love about PoppyLeigh: PoppyLeigh is a happy, playful, energetic puppy who loves to explore and be near her humans. She is almost fully potty trained, uses pee pads, and is crate trained — she even runs into her crate for treats and sleeps quietly through the night. Because she’s still learning about leashes and can be timid in new situations, a fenced in yard is required so she can safely build confidence at her own pace. PoppyLeigh is shy when meeting new people, but with patience and gentle handling, she will eventually warm up. Her person needs to be very patient and calm, giving her as much time as she needs to fully open up and trust. She enjoys the company of other dogs, and would love a canine friend to play with. She hasn’t met cats yet, but her nature suggests she’d likely be fine. PoppyLeigh had a growth plate that didn't fully close in one leg and had surgery to have one of her legs removed, but that doesn't affect her quality of life or slow her down one bit! She is faster and gets around just like every other dog! PoppyLeigh’s Highlights: • 8 month old, 6 lb Chihuahua with a stable orthopedic difference that doesn’t affect her comfort or happiness • Has three legs - but gets around better than most dogs with 41! • Almost fully potty trained, uses pee pads, and crate trained (sleeps quietly all night!) • Fence required — still learning about leashes and feels safest exploring freely • Timid at first but warms up with gentle, patient introductions, so she will need someone who can give her time to open up • Comfortable around other dogs • Medium to high puppy energy and loves to play • Very smart, trainable, and eager to please • Loves being near her humans and would enjoy a doggie friend for company Smart, loving, trainable, and full of joy — PoppyLeigh is ready to bring her unique charm and endless affection to the forever family who will adore her just as she is! Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Meet Miso — a 6&#226&#128&#145month&#226&#128&#145old, 7 lb Chihuahua mix with a whole lot of sweetness packed into her tiny frame.   Quick Facts: Name: Miso Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 6 months old Weight: 7 lbs. House-Trained: Almost there! Crate-Trained: Yes Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes, but can be a little mouthy when she plays, so older kids are best Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: No   About Miso’s Breed: Our best guess is that Miso is a Chihuahua mixed breed Chihuahuas are known for their big personalities in tiny bodies, often forming strong bonds with their favorite people. They’re alert, expressive, and full of charm, with a playful streak that makes them endlessly entertaining. Despite their small size, they’re confident little companions who love being involved in whatever their humans are doing.   An ideal home for a Chihuahua is one that offers gentle handling, companionship, and a sense of security. They thrive with families who understand their delicate size and can provide a calm environment, cozy spots to snuggle, and positive guidance. Because they bond closely with their people, they do best in homes where they’re not left alone for long periods and where their affectionate, spirited nature can shine.   What to Love about Miso: This little girl is the perfect blend of playful puppy energy and cuddly lap&#226&#128&#145dog charm! When she’s not bouncing around with her toys or exploring the world on her walks, she’s happiest curled up in your lap, soaking in all the love she can get!   Miso is mostly potty trained but still has the occasional puppy accident as she continues learning. She’s already crate trained and will need to be crated when left alone since she’s still young and curious enough to get into things. She can be a bit of a “little guardian” with her toys and food, but she’s learning quickly and responds well to gentle guidance. She gets along wonderfully with other dogs, does great with cats, and enjoys meeting people! Because of her puppy mouthiness, she’d do best with school&#226&#128&#145aged kids who understand how to respect her boundaries.   She walks nicely on a leash, rides well in the car, and is picking up basic commands. With her medium energy level, she’s just as happy playing as she is relaxing. Miso is an easygoing, loving puppy who’s ready to bring joy, fun, and lots of snuggles to her forever family!   Miso’s Highlights: 6&#226&#128&#145month&#226&#128&#145old, 7 lb Chihuahua mix with an adorable mix of puppy energy and lap&#226&#128&#145dog sweetness Mostly potty trained and already crate trained Great with dogs, cats, and people; best with school&#226&#128&#145aged kids due to puppy mouthiness Walks well on a leash and enjoys exploring the world Loves toys, playtime, and then curling up in your lap afterward Rides well in the car and is learning basic commands Can be a little guardian of her toys and food but improving with guidance Easygoing, loving, and ready to bring fun and affection to her forever home   If you’re looking for a tiny companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Miso is your girl.   Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. Story
Meet Boomer — a 1&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old, 16 lb Chihuahua mix with a tender heart, a silly streak, and a deep love for canine companionship.   Quick Facts: Name: Boomer Breed: Chihuahua Mix Age: 1 year old Weight: 16 lbs. House-Trained: Not yet Crate-Trained: No Good with Dogs: Yes (must have a companion dog in his forever home) Good with Cats: Likely ok Good with Kids: Preferably no – may do fine with older, calm children Energy Level: Medium Fence Required: Yes   About Boomer’s Breed: Our best guess is that Boomer is a Chihuahua mixed breed. Chihuahuas are bold, confident and loyal. They are affectionate with their people but can be wary of strangers but warm up quickly. They are intelligent and trainable, though they may be a little stubborn at times, but they keep it interesting! They are also known to be vocal and love to “chit chat”!   All About Boomer: Boomer is still working on his potty and crate training, but he does well when left uncrated with pee pads. Because of his rough and unknown past, he needs a little time to warm up and can be nervous around new people. He responds especially well to calm, gentle female energy and would do best in a kid&#226&#128&#145free home, as sudden movements can overwhelm him. Boomer would really love a home where someone would be with him, for most of the day, or not be gone for more than 5-6 hours per day.   What truly helps Boomer shine is the presence of another dog. He gains confidence from canine friends, loves playing with them, and even shares his toys beautifully. He hasn’t met cats yet, but given how well he does with dogs of all sizes, he would likely do fine with feline friends too.   Boomer has a medium energy level—he enjoys playtime and long walks but isn’t overly energetic. Once he trusts the person holding the leash, he walks nicely and has an easygoing, submissive play style. He would thrive with an experienced, patient owner, ideally someone familiar with small dogs or hoarder&#226&#128&#145rescue backgrounds who can offer gentle structure and consistent training. Once Boomer feels safe, his personality blossoms! He becomes a silly, sweet little guy who loves carrying his lamb chop toy around, sneaking socks when no one’s looking, and soaking up chest and chin scratches. His zoomies before walks or after baths are absolutely adorable and show just how joyful he can be.   Boomer’s Highlights: 1 year old, 16 lbs, Chihuahua mix Needs a dog companion for confidence and comfort Best in a kid&#226&#128&#145free, calm home Medium energy, loves walks and playtime Nervous at first but becomes sweet, silly, and affectionate Good with dogs, likely good with cats Needs a patient, experienced owner Loves toys, snuggles, and showing off his zoomies   Boomer is a gentle soul who just needs the right person and the right dog friend to help him feel safe. Once he trusts you, he becomes the sweetest, funniest little companion—full of love, quirks, and charm.       Comprehensive details are provided in the dog's description. to ensure a smooth process, please submit a completed application through our website at: http://crisisdogsnc.org/dog-adoption/. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. PLEASE NOTE: If you are on PetFinder or other search site, you do NOT need to introduce yourself.  All dogs on our website ARE available and require an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application before you can be considered or meet any of our dogs.  The link to our application is in the dogs bio below.         Bear – Sweet, Sleepy, and Searching for a Forever Home to Heal His Heart Bear is the kind of dog who makes you slow down, smile, and appreciate the quiet moments. This senior gentleman is soft, gentle, and incredibly affectionate — a dog who has weathered loss but still leans into love with his whole heart. He spends much of his time curled up in his small playpen, dozing on soft blankets, happy to watch the world from the safety of his cozy space. He uses wee-wee pads in his pen and will bark when he needs to go outside. Bear’s world was turned upside down when his devoted owner passed away. It’s obvious he was treasured — he loves being touched, being spoken to softly, and soaking up every bit of attention he can get. What he wants now is a calm, patient human who will help him feel safe again. He’s learning how to walk on a leash with a harness, but it’s still new and a little scary, so a fenced yard would help him feel calmer and more secure. Bear gets along with small female dogs but can be standoffish with males. He hasn’t been around kids or cats, but his gentle nature suggests he’d prefer a peaceful home with routines and reassurance. Bear is mostly quiet, giving a small bark only when he needs something important. He’s low-energy, happy to nap, stroll around a yard, and curl up at your feet. He could be an only dog if someone is home much of the day — a retiree or a work-from-home adopter would be perfect. &#226&#156&#168 Bear needs someone willing to give an overlooked senior a real chance. He is sweet. He is snuggly. He is heartbreakingly grateful for even the smallest kindness. If you give Bear a home, he will fill your days with warmth, loyalty, and quiet companionship. He just needs someone who will say, “Your story isn’t over yet.” EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Bears owner passed away and BFPA is helping him find his forever home.  Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC. This senior sweetheart spends most of his days snoozing peacefully in his cozy playpen, where he feels secure and comforted. He uses wee-wee pads reliably in his space and will bark politely when he needs to go outside — a sweet little reminder of how hard he tries to do everything right, even at his age. Life has recently changed for Rebel in the most heartbreaking way. His beloved owner passed away, and Rebel has been grieving in his own quiet, gentle way. It’s clear he was cherished deeply, and he’s still searching for that sense of love and safety. He’s learning to walk with a harness and isn’t quite confident yet, so a fenced yard would make his world feel less scary. He’s okay with small female dogs and prefers to avoid pushy males. Children and cats are unknowns, and he’d be happiest in a calm, patient home — ideally with someone home most of the time or a senior who wants a soothing companion. Rebel isn’t demanding. He’s low-energy, soft-hearted, and easy to love. Mostly quiet, he saves his voice only to ask for something he needs. He adores snuggling, being gently doted on, and settling into a plush bed with someone close by. Rebel needs an angel — someone who sees the beauty in an old dog who just wants to belong again. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, gratitude-filled companion, Rebel will give you every ounce of affection he has left. His golden years deserve to be golden — maybe you’re the one who can make that happen. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:   Rebel's owner passed away and he has come to BFPA to find a forever home. Story
Bought from a reputable pet store in 2020 during Covid for my then 8‑year‑old son. He is a very loving dog and warms up to new people almost immediately. Our lives have become much busier, and we no longer have the time to give him the care and attention he deserves. I am looking for someone who has the time to truly care for him, love him, and happily receive his affection. There is no rush—I will keep him with us until the right **forever** home is found.

Story
Teddy is our little handsome boy, young, super playful and energetic. He is the youngest member of our family. We have loved Teddy as our own little baby and pampered him with whatever best we could. But honestly due to our super busy schedules which includes official travels at times, it’s becoming hard to give the best care we were providing him so far. At times we are having to crate him beyond 5-6 hours at a stretch which is not healthy for his physical needs. That’s the reason we are thinking of finding a best possible home for him so he can get the best that he deserves. He is on Gastrointestinal vetted diet and up to date with all vaccinations and is neutered as well. We can provide everything that he is enjoying now to go with him to his new home. All he needs is your time and good care. Hope he finds his forever home soon.
