Story
Mina is a cute girl who is always down for some fun! Mina is estimated to be about a year old, and she is a smart and happy girl. She missed out on some socialization as a young puppy, so she is still learning about the world, but has blossomed in foster care and can't wait to meet her fur-ever family. Mina currently weighs about 25lbs, and appears to be fully grown. Mina came to us from our partners, BONES Pet Rescue in Covelo. Mina and her sister (who has already been adopted) were found on a remote road, likely dumped by their previous owners. A friend of BONES found the puppies and brought them to the rescue. After some TLC, they were transferred to one of our foster homes. Mina is a curious and playful girl who likes to make new friends and romp around in the yard. She enjoys gentle pets and will even give you sweet kissies if you're lucky. She is still learning all the ropes of being a dog and needs a family who can be patient with her while she learns and gains confidence. One thing that really helps her feel comfortable is having dog friends. We are hoping she can be adopted by someone who has a confident dog for her to bond with and can help mentor her. Mina is going to be a great companion for someone who is committed to continuing her training and socialization. She is an active and smart girl who learns quickly, especially if yummy treats are involved. Mina has done great with dogs of all sizes, but can be a tad too playful for older dogs, so would do best with a dog who can keep up with her energetic personality. Mina has done well with dog-savvy cats after a slow introduction. Mina has done well with being around livestock and even an extra-large tortoise. She would be a great addition to a farm! Due to her shy personality, Mina would do best in a home with kids older than 10 years old. Mina is house and crate trained.  She has been doing well being left alone in her crate and sleeping through the night in there. She knows how to climb fences, so she shouldn't be trusted in a yard alone until she has fully settled in and bonded with her new family. Mina is such a great little girl who has so much potential. If she sounds like the sidekick you have been looking for, head to our website, yolospca.org/adopt, to submit an application.   Mina's adoption fee is $300.   A pply to adopt here!  https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/   Applications are also available on the website (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm, started on preventatives, and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email dogs@yolospca.org. For more general questions, please see our website at www.yolospca.org. July 16, 2026, 9:03 pm

Story
Meet Cookie and read what her foster has shared about her. Cookie is nothing short of a wonderful dog. She has a calm and very loving personality, bonds deeply with her people and gives lots of kisses. She loves humans and is always eager to say hello! She's joyfully energetic and channels her energy very well in the house, enjoying rest and nap time after a long walk. She's also very smart and knows "sit", "wait", "leave it" and "paw". Frequent walks and hikes are needed, especially as Cookie loves being outside and exploring. She gets at least 1.5 hours of exercise in a day (walks + running in an enclosed space where she can burn off her energy and get her zoomies out). Every 2-3 days, she goes on a longer walk or hike for 3 to 4 hours. She adores her walks and needs an active and outdoorsy family. Cookie is also fully houstrained. She can totally be trusted when left alone and we allow her to free roam in the house. She sleeps on her dog bed in her crate at night (in the living room), and often hangs out in her crate during the day to be in her own space, when she's not by our side napping or asking for pets and snuggles! Overall, she's a happy pup who really wants to make friends and highly benefits from being socialized with dogs as it seems to boost both her mood and self-confidence. She is especially drawn to her northern breed cousins (huskies and samoyeds, to name a few) and enjoys playtime sessions with them. At times, Cookie can feel a little insecure and may resource guard her person from other dogs, so she will do best with an adopter who understands this behavior and can provide clear boundaries and reassurance. She has strong prey drive so is not good around small animals. While she does well with most dogs outside, she is more selective about dogs in her home when it comes to personality, size, and playfulness. We think Cookie would do well either in a home with a self-confident, energetic dog companion she can play with, or in a single-dog home where her human(s) find opportunities for her to be around other dogs and play. Please submit an application for her if you think she is a match for you.

Story
Leela is an energetic sweetheart collie pit mix who enjoys playing and mental stimulation. She is approximately 9 months old. She is just getting used to home life and is still working on potty training. She understands the concept, but forgets on occasion. She needs help learning to not use her mouth when she gets overly excited, but she loves laps. She sleeps in our room through the night in her crate. She's energetic; she needs lots of exercise and stimulation. She is very food motivated and is eager to learn. She loves training and playing with people. She would do best with someone with dog experience; I would say no kids until you can train the mouthiness out of her. She knows the basics like sit and potty and use learning other behaviors. She has some separation anxiety but it has gotten way better even in just the last week. She needs leash training. She's comfortable with her crate.

Story
Meet Skye! If you`re looking for a dog that`s always ready for the next adventure, Skye is your girl! This beautiful 1-year-old Cattle Dog mix is smart, affectionate, and bursting with energy. She absolutely loves being with her people and has the kind of personality that makes every day a little more exciting. But make no mistake, Skye is looking for more than just a home. She`s looking for a job, a purpose, and a family ready to embrace her active lifestyle. Skye is incredibly friendly with people and enjoys attention from everyone she meets. She`s easy to handle, walks nicely on leash, and already knows `sit` and `down.` Like many young working breeds, though, she has a short attention span and will thrive with continued obedience training, consistency, and plenty of positive reinforcement. This energetic girl will need both physical exercise and mental enrichment every single day. Puzzle toys, training sessions, hiking adventures, scent work, agility, or other activities that keep her mind busy will help her become the best version of herself. One thing Skye`s future family should know is that she`s an escape artist. She`s incredibly clever and has a talent for finding ways out of yards if left unattended. Because of this, Skye cannot be left outside alone and will need an owner who is committed to supervising outdoor time and keeping her safely engaged. She wants to be where her people are anyway! Skye has lived with children and has a very sweet nature with people. When meeting other dogs, she can be selective. She may initially do well but may become uncomfortable when play becomes too intense, so a dog-to-dog meet is required if there is another dog in the home. She may ultimately be happiest as your one-and-only adventure buddy. Skye isn`t a dog who wants to spend her days alone in a backyard—she wants to hike beside you, learn new tricks, explore new places, and be your loyal partner in whatever life brings. With the right structure, exercise, and love, this bright young girl has all the potential to become an incredible lifelong companion. If you`re ready for an intelligent, energetic best friend who`s happiest by your side, Skye is ready to meet you.
