Information provided by shelter staff, volunteers, and veterinarians is used to give a best estimate as to a dog’s breed make up. We do our best to inform adopters about the potential breeds for each dog.We are a dog only facility so we do not know how most of our dogs will be with cats. Even if a dog is surrendered to us and said to be good with cats there is no way to be sure the dog will be good with your cats. We do have a 7 day foster-to-adopt program so that you can see how the dog interacts with your cats before adoption.

THIS GUY! Wow! He has come a LONG away since he's been in our care. He was scheduled for euthanasia simply because they were out of room. He and his brother Happy. So a Good Samaritan pulled them both and spared them from certain death. They have been amazing, becoming very social because they have been attending doggy daycare everyday and receiving hands in one on one professional training! Captain is approx 7-8 months old. He's shy at first around new things but warms up quickly. He is kennel trained and house trained and it goes without saying he's dog friendly since he attends doggy daycare! He's super easy to get along with just needs a patient family because he is a bit shy at first around new things. He's with Kip and Michele in their home in Memphis, Tn. Once an application has been submitted and approved Kip, who has been working with Captain one on one for several months, will speak to you and tell you all about him. She is definitely a “people” girl who loves affection and hugs. In her previous home she was the only dog and she would prefer to be in an only dog household. She has learned to get along with her submissive collie foster sibling but it did require training and supervision. She has, however, done well with the household cats. Kelly is attentive to all that is going on around her and happily watches from her bed. If you want a dog that prefers dog beds to people furniture, this is your girl. She is very smart and understands Sit, Stay and Shake. She prefers to play with toys with someone rather than playing by herself. If you press a squeaky toy she will take a turn making it squeak right back at you.   Kelly has a few quirks like we all do. She was born with a slight neurological issue which makes her spin. When she is excited she spins. But she can stop in a couple of minutes and then is fine and will follows directions well. She gets overly excited by cars driving by (barks and spins) so a quiet neighborhood or windows that she cannot see out of will keep her secure, mpre calm and happy. If she does see cars, she can be distracted by giving her some attention. Kelly thrives on routine, consistency and repetition and with them can quickly learn the rules and wishes of the humans in her world. She needs a patient loving person that will work with her in a kind way.
