Story
Barley is the cutest guy with a heart as big as all outdoors. What isn't clear in these shelter photos is how truly beautiful this dog is (inside and out) with his shining, soft as cotton coat and his loving, sweet as can be demeanor.
Barley is a wonderful, 3 - 4 year old, 29 lb Corgi / Chihuahua mix with one of the most endearing faces you’ve ever seen. You can see the wisdom in his dark eyes that quietly ask for reassurance and love. Barley is just naturally a friendly and positive pup that enjoys his relationships with both large and small dogs. This sensitive sweetheart is feeling a bit shy and confused right now after his time at a loud, scary shelter but with some patience, hugs and yummy treats, he falls easily in love.
Despite the upheaval in his life, Barley remains a gentle and kind soul. Once he feels safe and sure of himself, his sweet personality starts to shine through. He becomes affectionate, silly, and absolutely awesome.
Barley would do best in a calm home, ideally with retirees, adults or older kids where the environment is more predictable. He’d thrive with someone who works from home or is retired and can offer him the consistency and companionship he craves. With a little time and a lots of love, Barley is going to blossom into the happy, confident dog that he truly is.
Barley's new family needs to have the motivation, energy and open heart for a sweet rescue dog. He will require some behavioral guidance and tons of love to nurture a positive attitude about the world. In return Barley will be a loyal and loving best friend and the greatest family dog ever. When this beautiful guy falls in love, he falls hard. He gives 100% of himself to his relationships with both his people and his canine companions.
Since Barley is a young dog, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Barley will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free obedience classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a dog's's ultimate behavior and in his relationship and bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.
Farfel's Rescue feel very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Barley out to a home that doesn't choose to offer him this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement trainers in your area.
Barley will be up to date on his vetting and vaccinations to support Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. He has also been neutered to support our vision of a euthanasia - free future in the canine population.
