Barley is the cutest, and sweetest guy! Barley is a wonderful, 3 - 4 year old, 29 lb Corgi mix with one of the most endearing faces you’ve ever seen. You can see the wisdom in his dark eyes that quietly ask for reassurance and love. Barley is just naturally a friendly and positive pup that enjoys his relationships with both large and small dogs. This sweetheart is very social and great with all people he meets, too! Barley was surrendered to the shelter in New Mexico when his owners were moving out of state and decided that they could not bring him with them. Despite the upheaval in his life, Barley remains a gentle and kind soul. He is snuggly, social, and so silly! From Barley's foster: * * * * "Barley is doing so so well! He is eating well, and he's potty trained! We put him in a crate at night on his first night home, and he whined a little when put in his crate, but we moved the crate to our bedroom and then he was able to settle. Since the first night, we have let him sleep out of the crate (he gained that trust easily!) on a dog bed in the living room, and he does great! We also leave him loose in the family room when we leave the house, and he does totally fine! He isn't much of a barker, but does bark with excitement when we get home. It's cute! He loves walks and is friendly with other dogs and people that he meets. We brought him to the farmers market and he was so sweet with everyone and every dog there! He comes when I make a kissy sound so I'm using that to teach him "come". We are working on teaching him "sit" and "down" as well. Barley LOVES to snuggle. If I stop snuggling him, he nuzzles in and asks for more. He's so so so affectionate and social. He had an upset tummy when he first came home, so he's been on a bland diet and his belly is feeling much better! His neuter site is healing well, and he only has needed to wear his cone a few times." * * * * Barley would do great in a home with retirees, adults or older kids where he will get lots of love and attention. He’d thrive with someone who works from home or is retired, as he loves to snuggle and would hate to be left home alone for long hours while his family worked full time outside of the home. Since Barley is a young dog, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion. Barley will form firm bonds with his family and learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free obedience classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a dog's's ultimate behavior and in his relationship and bonding with his people. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior. Millie is likely a Corgi/mini Australian Shepherd blend who’s approx 20# and 2 y/o. After a short time in her foster home, Millie has shown that she is a sweet, cautious, quiet, snuggly companion. She was found in a TX hoarding situation, transferred to a small overcrowded rural shelter, and put on the EU list. Our amazing rescue partner sprang her for us and she is now spayed, utd, chipped, HW- and getting all the love and snuggles she has missed out on. She is potty trained (she may have an accident at first in a new home with a routine) and not destructive when left alone. She might seek a hiding spot until she’s comfortable in her new home. Millie walks on a leash but not confidently so she’ll need gentle practice and a patient handler until she feels safe and more comfortable. She prefers the company of dogs her size or smaller and will engage in play after she has spent some time observing. She does not care for bigger dogs. Millie would prefer a quiet home without a lot of noise. We have not cat or kid tested her but a respectful child 8+ may be considered due to her sweet nature and even temperament. Multiple children may be too much for her. Millie is potty trained and will happily go into the yard to do her business and a fenced in yard is required. An apartment situation is not be a good fit and we haven’t seen her attempt a flight of stairs so that’s unknown as well. Someone home during the day, medium level activity, and including her in your daily activities plus a basic manners class would be ideal to boost her confidence and bond with her new family. This amazing ball of floof is Oreo. Oreo was surrendered by his owner due to too many dogs. Oreo is almost 2y/o and 35#. He is a good boy who is looking for an active home with another playful tolerant dog his size. He is a bit fearful of bigger dogs and gets easily overstimulated. Oreo walks well on the leash and needs longer daily walks plus other mental and physical exercise, and weekend hikes, or a working or sport home. He’d love a basic doggie manners class where he could bond with his person and show you how smart he is. Oreo is working on marking indoors and still does it occasionally and/or when he is stressed and/or if there’s another new boy dog around. He’ll need continued support and supervision and let outside often to do his business. He wears a belly band at night (it’s almost always dry in the AM) and sleeps in a dog bed. He tolerates a kennel for short periods but doesn’t love it, so someone home during the day would be best. His fluffy coat will require more than average grooming. Oreo can be fearful of new grabby hands, humans reaching over him, and fast movements towards him so only homes with children 12+ or no kids will be considered. We do not know how he is with cats but he is very herdy so cats are NOT recommended. Oreo is not a good fit for an apartment situation and requires a good sized fenced in yard where he can run around and he’ll still need appropriate daily exercise to keep him in good shape as he easily puts on weight. A herding breed experienced home would be best as he’s not a good option for a first time owner. He needs some time to settle and patience while he learns a new routine in a new environment with new people. He can be nervous and mouthy at first, but once he feels comfortable, he is very affectionate and cuddly. He should be told at least 10 times a day that he’s a good boy. Marcy is the type of dog that makes people smile almost immediately. She has a goofy, happy personality, loves being involved in whatever you are doing, and absolutely lives for water. If there is a pond, creek, kiddie pool, or muddy shoreline nearby, Marcy will find it. Marcy is a stocky, short-legged mixed breed girl around 45 pounds full grown with a personality that balances confidence and sensitivity in a really unique way. She loves adventures, swimming, exploring, and outdoor activities, but she is not a nonstop high-energy dog. She can absolutely keep up on hikes, walks, or active days, then happily relax afterward. She is great with other dogs and cats. With dogs, she does best around friendly, respectful personalities. She can get intimidated if another dog is overly pushy or tries to dominate her, but outside of that she is social, playful, and very happy around other animals. With new people, Marcy can sometimes give a little low growl at first. It is not aggression and she has never shown aggressive behavior. It is simply her way of saying she needs a moment to process and get comfortable. Once she settles in, her affectionate and goofy personality comes out quickly. She is basically an extroverted introvert. Marcy would be a great fit for someone looking for a dog that enjoys adventures and outdoor time but does not need constant stimulation to stay happy. She especially needs a family that understands that not every friendly dog is instantly social with strangers, and that giving a dog a few minutes to warm up is completely okay. Good fit: someone looking for a fun, outdoorsy companion that enjoys water, adventures, and relaxing equally. Adoption process: All adoptions are completed prior to transport.
