Story

Marcy is the type of dog that makes people smile almost immediately. She has a goofy, happy personality, loves being involved in whatever you are doing, and absolutely lives for water. If there is a pond, creek, kiddie pool, or muddy shoreline nearby, Marcy will find it. Marcy is a stocky, short-legged mixed breed girl around 45 pounds full grown with a personality that balances confidence and sensitivity in a really unique way. She loves adventures, swimming, exploring, and outdoor activities, but she is not a nonstop high-energy dog. She can absolutely keep up on hikes, walks, or active days, then happily relax afterward. She is great with other dogs and cats. With dogs, she does best around friendly, respectful personalities. She can get intimidated if another dog is overly pushy or tries to dominate her, but outside of that she is social, playful, and very happy around other animals. With new people, Marcy can sometimes give a little low growl at first. It is not aggression and she has never shown aggressive behavior. It is simply her way of saying she needs a moment to process and get comfortable. Once she settles in, her affectionate and goofy personality comes out quickly. She is basically an extroverted introvert. Marcy would be a great fit for someone looking for a dog that enjoys adventures and outdoor time but does not need constant stimulation to stay happy. She especially needs a family that understands that not every friendly dog is instantly social with strangers, and that giving a dog a few minutes to warm up is completely okay. Good fit: someone looking for a fun, outdoorsy companion that enjoys water, adventures, and relaxing equally. Adoption process: All adoptions are completed prior to transport. Barley is the cutest guy with a heart as big as all outdoors. What isn't clear in these shelter photos is how truly beautiful this dog is (inside and out) with his shining, soft as cotton coat and his loving, sweet as can be demeanor. Barley is a wonderful, 3 - 4 year old, 29 lb Corgi / Chihuahua mix with one of the most endearing faces you’ve ever seen. You can see the wisdom in his dark eyes that quietly ask for reassurance and love. Barley is just naturally a friendly and positive pup that enjoys his relationships with both large and small dogs. This sensitive sweetheart is feeling a bit shy and confused right now after his time at a loud, scary shelter but with some patience, hugs and yummy treats, he falls easily in love. Despite the upheaval in his life, Barley remains a gentle and kind soul. Once he feels safe and sure of himself, his sweet personality starts to shine through. He becomes affectionate, silly, and absolutely awesome. Barley would do best in a calm home, ideally with retirees, adults or older kids where the environment is more predictable. He’d thrive with someone who works from home or is retired and can offer him the consistency and companionship he craves. With a little time and a lots of love, Barley is going to blossom into the happy, confident dog that he truly is. Barley's new family needs to have the motivation, energy and open heart for a sweet rescue dog. He will require some behavioral guidance and tons of love to nurture a positive attitude about the world. In return Barley will be a loyal and loving best friend and the greatest family dog ever. Story

Freya is a sweet energetic Corgi Terrier mix that loves to play and cuddle with her humans. She enjoys playing with Hemi, a big male Rottweiler Shepard mix. We have taken her to the dog park and she does fine around other dogs as well. She prefers catch to fetch. She loves bully sticks and pig ears. She is very food motivated and very smart. She can be a little too energetic at times and tries to jump and give open mouth kisses which can frighten some people and children. We rescued Freya and Hemi when their previous owner couldn't afford to keep them. For several weeks Freya and Hemi integrated well with our rescue Ceres. However Ceres' resource aggression came out and she and Freya occasionally fought over treats and toys. We have been working with the dogs and they have all improved greatly, but we have been unable to stop Ceres from starting fights entirely. My husband and I have come to the hard decision to rehome Freya to a safe and loving forever home.

Millie is likely a Corgi/mini Australian Shepherd blend who’s approx 20# and 2 y/o. After a short time in her foster home, Millie has shown that she is a sweet, cautious, quiet, snuggly companion. She was found in a TX hoarding situation, transferred to a small overcrowded rural shelter, and put on the EU list. Our amazing rescue partner sprang her for us and she is now spayed, utd, chipped, HW- and getting all the love and snuggles she has missed out on. She is potty trained (she may have an accident at first in a new home with a routine) and not destructive when left alone. She might seek a hiding spot until she’s comfortable in her new home. Millie walks on a leash but not confidently so she’ll need gentle practice and a patient handler until she feels safe and more comfortable. She prefers the company of dogs her size or smaller and will engage in play after she has spent some time observing. She does not care for bigger dogs. Millie would prefer a quiet home without a lot of noise. We have not cat or kid tested her but a respectful child 8+ may be considered due to her sweet nature and even temperament. Multiple children may be too much for her. Millie is potty trained and will happily go into the yard to do her business and a fenced in yard is required. An apartment situation is not be a good fit and we haven’t seen her attempt a flight of stairs so that’s unknown as well. Someone home during the day, medium level activity, and including her in your daily activities plus a basic manners class would be ideal to boost her confidence and bond with her new family.
