Story
** If you are interested in adopting River, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ ** Meet River, probably one of the silliest dog you'll ever meet! River came to Farfel's Rescue from a small high-kill shelter in TX. He was picked up as a stray, and we received a plea to get him out of the shelter.River then got a ticket to Colorado to start a new life and find a loving home. River is believed to be a Corgi / Schnauzer mix, who is 3 year old and 17 lbs. River has interesting hair, and a very silly lion tail! We can see the scruff on his face, and believe that he was likely shaved down based off his tail puff and scruff on his lips, but this is how he showed up at the shelter so we are unsure if he will grow out wire-y hair, or stay shorthaired with wire-y hair on his face and tail... River has a very bubbly personality, and adores every new person he meets, and does great with other dogs. Most of the time these rescue dogs have not had any training. Unfortunately we do not know much of River's background. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for a young dog whose self-esteem will fly high while he masters his skills. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area. Our training requirement is to help every adoption be successful. River has been fully vetted, is up to date on his vaccines, and neutered. Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial. Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year. If you are interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ . **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application.

Story
Thank Dog it’s the weekend! Tawny was recently listed for adoption, but we’ve since spent a little time with her and evaluated her more closely. Tawny is an 8.5-year-old Pembroke Corgi. Her previous family was in a situation where they could no longer keep her and had to give her up. She is crate trained and does not mind sleeping there through the night. She is completely housetrained and has started using a doggy door. She loves to go on walks and gets very excited. She is selective of the dogs she gets along with and is non-reactive to cats. She tolerates the smaller dogs in her foster home but does not like the other female Corgi and will not be placed with another female dog her size or larger. A home without other dogs or possibly a passive male dog would be best. She does get jealous of other dogs around her person.  The ideal home for Tawny would be a home where her people are home most of the time so she can be with them. An easy-going family with a structured routine would be best for her. She will need a firm yet gentle person to guide her in her new home. She came to Rescue with anxiety due to her previous situation but has relaxed and is doing very well now that she has a calm atmosphere. She is hesitant with strangers and needs time to warm up; she does not appreciate strangers trying to touch her without her getting comfortable with them first. Her new family should know that a few visits before becoming a permanent part of their family would help in her transition to the new home, so a family in the metro Denver area would be preferred so that visits can be facilitated easily. Due to her anxiety, we will not place her in a home with children. She is a barker and is being trained to hush on cue. It is going to take time and patience and her new family should be willing to work with her using positive reinforcement.  She loves to talk with snorts, grunts and corgi yodeling… and of course barking. Another form of “talking” she enjoys is growling. She wags her tail the entire time, but this can be confusing and intimidating to many people. This is how she expresses herself and is not an indication of aggression, so a family with dog experience and an understanding of canine body language is preferred.  Having her own fenced in yard so she can burn off some of her energy is a requirement. She will not do well in an apartment or at dog parks due to her anxious and bossy nature and will need space to run off leash.     Don’t let her age fool you, this girl is full of spunk! She enjoys walks VERY much and she hopes that her new family enjoys daily walks as well.  She loves the snow, enjoys playing with toys and her person once she trusts them. She also enjoys car rides. She is intelligent and always watches her person for cues. She also has a very sweet side that she can’t wait to show her new family. If you think you could provide her with her list of requirements, please see Colorado Corgis and Friends adoption process and complete a meet and greet/adoption application for her, go to https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms (https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms) as the first step. Her adoption fee is $375 and we do not adopt out of Colorado. Stats: - Up to date on vaccinations - Spayed - Microchipped - No known major health or dental issues - Heartworm  negative - Approx. 8.5 years old and 21#  May 19, 2024, 9:11 am

Story
Meet Winston! This almost 5-year-old couch potato, with his birthday on June 6th, is looking to shed a few pounds (but hey, who isn't?). He's a foodie at heart and a quick learner. He came into the rescue already knowing cues like sit, stay, lay down, and roll over.  On walks, Winston struts his stuff like a pro, but the mere sight of a squirrel turns him into a little explorer, pulling a bit on the leash. Winston can be vocal and is not shy about expressing himself, so a home without shared walls would be ideal for his serenades. No apartments! Winston is a people-lover through and through. He insists on being part of the action, following his humans around the house like a furry shadow. He's not a fan of young kids but kids 16 years old and up should be ok. Winston is used to going in and out into the backyard freely throughout the day in his old home, so a fenced yard is preferred. While Winston hasn't met any cats yet, he's looking for a home where he can be the only furry friend OR with experienced herding breed owners who understand resource guarding and separate feedings. Winston has nipped in his foster home, so watch your ankles! Housebroken and accident-free, Winston is the ultimate work-from-home buddy, always ready to lend an ear (or a paw) during your Zoom calls. He's eagerly awaiting a loving home where he can be the center of attention and continue to charm his way into your heart! To learn about Colorado Corgis and Friends adoption process and complete a meet and greet/adoption application for Winston, go to — https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms as the first step. His adoption fee is $425.  MINIMUM ADOPTION QUALIFICATIONS  - Must reside in Colorado - No other dogs or an experienced herding breed home that is knowledgeable with resource guarding and separate feedings - No apartments - Fenced yard preferred  - No kids or kids 16+ - Completed meet and greet/adoption application (https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms) - Home and reference check  - Meet with everyone in the home - Applicant and primary caregiver must be 21+ years oldMay 19, 2024, 9:11 am

Story
Dexter and Miah are littermates and have been together since birth, July 11, 2019.  They are very bonded. When Miah is away from Dexter, he searches until he finds her.  They both like to be with “their people” as much as possible. Dexter may have issues with smaller dogs so we’re hoping to place them in a home with no other dogs or another friendly Corgi. Apparently Miah and Dexter were kept in a playpen most of the time for the past 2 years which likely contributed to their weight gain. They are both around 40# and need to lose 10-15# each. They will need to be placed in a home committed to helping them lose weight through diet and exercise. They don’t seem to know how to play with toys. Their current caretakers were told that Miah does not like to go for walks; but she is always excited when the leashes come out and wants to go along. Miah snores like a house hippo when sleeping. Dexter does not. They will need time to settle in and get used to a new home. They learn quickly tho. They are never crated; they have the run of the house and are well behaved. There are several dog beds available to them. They both like to ride in the car. Miah does not use the doggie door but with a little more weight loss, she would be able to go in and out the doggie door. They require a secure fenced in yard and humans who are not gone long hours and are committed to their well being. They will only be placed together. If interested in meeting them, the first step is to complete our meet and greet application at https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms We require the application, home and reference check, and meet with everyone in the home. They are both s/n, utd on vaccs, and will be chipped prior to adoption. They are currently in NE and NE residents between Kearney and the CO state line MAY be considered with some additional stipulations. Their adoption fee $675. We will not respond to inquiries about adopting them individually.May 19, 2024, 9:11 am

Story
Itachi is a sweet, loving, 6 y/o corgi. He was surrendered through zero fault of his own; his owner simply did not have the time to care for and give him the appropriate amount of physical and mental exercise he needs. He has a million dollar smile and uses it to try to get all the treats. He is potty trained, does okay walking on a leash, knows basic cues like sit, down, roll, and paw. Itachi is looking for his forever home with someone who is familiar with Corgis and committed to helping him get to his ideal weight. He is about 45# and needs to lose 10-15#. Like a typical herding breed, he is not afraid to speak his mind and will benefit from more positive reinforcement training. An apartment is not a good fit and a secure fenced in yard is required. Tug-of-war and playful wrestling are his favorite games. He has done well with other dogs his size and dog-savvy cats in his foster home. He is not tested with kids but a respectful older kid 10+ may be considered. If you are interested in meeting Itachi, the first step is to complete our meet and greet application at https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms We require the application, home and reference check, and meet with everyone in the home. Itachi is neutered, utd on vaccs, chipped, and HW-. His adoption fee is $400 and we do not adopt outside of Colorado.May 19, 2024, 9:11 am

Story
Auggie is a beautiful, 7 month old, 21 lb., blue merle Corgi/mini-aussie blend. His first home made the difficult decision to surrender him to CCFR as the older, larger dogs in the home were not nice to him. He is full of love AND energy! He plays well with his Corgi foster sister and loves fetch and return. His forever home requires a secure fenced yard for his play time and energy. Preference will be given to a home with a similarly sized active dog for him to play with. He will need an owner who is mostly at home to interact with him and so that he won’t be left alone for long periods of time. Auggie is potty trained, crate trained, and knows some simple cues like sit and drop it. He is still learning leash walking and is more confident walking alongside his foster sister. Loud trucks and fenced barking dogs worry him on walks. Auggie has a sweet disposition and even temperament. At 7 months, he is still in the juvenile stage and would benefit from a positive reinforcement training class and lots of fun activities. Auggie has met kids but his experience with cats is unknown. We will consider an older respectful child 10+. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and HW-. He is shy at first meeting but warms up quickly. If you are interested in meeting Auggie, the first step is to complete the meet and greet application at https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms. We require the completed application, home and reference check, and Auggie meet with all those living the home. Auggie’s adoption fee is $475 and we do not adopt outside of Colorado.May 19, 2024, 9:11 am
