Story
** If you are interested in adopting Penny, please fill out our adoption application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ **
Sweet little Penny is ready to leave her difficult past behind and finally discover what it feels like to be safe, loved, and spoiled. This precious 1 year old, 13 pound Dachshund / Chihuahua mix (chiweenie!) was found as a stray in Houston, Texas, pregnant, scared, and trying to survive the heat. She was brought into a scary high kill shelter, where her pregnancy was terminated, and she was left understandably frightened and confused by everything that had happened to her.
Penny has been through more than any young dog should ever have to experience. Now, she is getting her chance to leave that life behind and come to Colorado, where we hope her next chapter will be completely different.
Penny is so incredibly sweet, and just a little shy at first, which is completely understandable given everything she has been through. She hopes to find an adopter who is willing to give her a few quiet days to decompress, settle in, and realize that she is finally safe. Once she knows she can trust you, Penny's incredibly sweet personality begins to shine through. She is gentle, friendly, and so deserving of love.
Penny also does wonderfully with other dogs.
Penny isn't looking for anything complicated. She just wants someone who will be patient with her, give her time, shower her with affection, and show her that the rest of her life can be filled with good things. After everything this little girl has endured, we think she deserves nothing less than a forever home where she will be cherished every single day.
We'd like to place Penny in a home where she'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.
Penny is up to date on her vaccinations, has been fully vetted, is healthy, heartworm negative, and is spayed.
Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out 400 dogs each year.
Applications are currently being accepted for our wonderful pup. If interested in this gorgeous, very cuddly/sweet and loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting from us, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
