Story
Meet Paige… a spunky 5 year old who is looking for a family to love and snuggle with. Paige was surrendered to us by a woman after she had been abandoned at her house for a year by a sibling. She has been an outside dog and is learning to be housed trained. She has been introduced to numerous dogs at her foster family and has had no trouble adjusting. Her favorite activity is sleeping… either in your lap, or on the back of the couch. When it’s time to go outside… she spins in circles with excitement then quickly runs outside to explore and sniff everything. She has excellent recall and comes back quickly when called if not on a leash. She is happiest when her person is near. She will make an excellent companion to anyone looking for unconditional love.*Disclaimer: This pet is located in Texas. Once adoption is finalized the pet will be transported to the adopters location for an additional fee (currently $300).* The adoption fee helps to cover some of the cost of vetting the animal prior to adoption (spay/neuter, microchipping, and up to date vaccinations). Please fill out an adoption application to be considered for adoption. https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=ch2817&method=online_form_html&formid=41

Story
Renato was found in the Rio Grande Valley, on the Texas/Mexico, super emaciated. Luckily he is now getting weight up. His finders wanted to keep but their dog didn’t accept him- chill dogs can find him annoying because he wants to play so he needs dogs that match his playfulness but he doesn’t require other dogs. Renato is your personal alarm clock! He enjoys a regular 5:50am potty break. He is good in his crate until he needs to potty and then will pound on the door- so, very potty trained. He is very food motivated, eager to learn & please and wants to be good. He has pretty yellow eyes. Renato likes affection- he escaped his crate one night to get in the bed, he wants to be with you. He chases the ball. This schnookums tail is wagging at all times when meeting new people, including kids, and dogs- if they growl he walks away. Nicolas is currently living in a foster home in San Antonio, Texas, awaiting an adopter or open foster home in Colorado to bring him up and into their home- the next transport arrives January 9th! Red Fern Animal Rescue offers a two week foster to adopt trial in your home before finalizing the adoption to ensure the animal is the right fit for you, everyone in the home, human & animal, and vice versa. Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio. ##2616193##

Story
Meet Treat! He really is the sweetest treat — a happy, playful little guy who would delight any family this holiday season. Treat loves zooming around the yard, chasing tiny tennis balls, and happily playing with teeny stuffies. He follows his foster brother around and plays wonderfully with other dogs.Treat is still a bit unsure about leash walking, but he’s improving every day with gentle practice. Because of this, he’d especially love a home with a yard where he can run and play confidently. He’s a champion sleeper, happily curling up in his crate and snoozing through the night. He can entertain himself while his foster mom works from home, and when he’s done playing, he loves to snuggle up for attention, kisses, and affection.Treat is working hard on his potty training and is making great progress with a consistent routine and his own quiet space. With just a little continued training, he’ll be a wonderful companion for kids, cats, or other dogs. This honey pie has so much love to give. He’s looking for an adopter who’s ready for playtime, continued training, and patience as he perfects his skills. In return, he’ll give you endless joy, cuddles, and the sweetest companion in return. ##2600136##

Story
Jacob is ready to meet his forever family! He is an approximately 1 year-old, 25-lb. dachshund maybe with some terrier and a dash of sweet-as-can-be! (He's long like a dachshund but just a smidge taller). Jacob is very nervous around new people and dogs but give him space and love from a distance and he will be begging for your attention. He is dog-friendly but he has not been tested with cats nor kids. Because he is so nervous around strangers, loud noises and sudden movements, we recommend an adults-only home. Jacob is potty trained, loves leashed walks, and is getting pretty good at walking confidently on leash. Because he may need some time to re-adjust to leashed walks and he needs somewhere to run freely, he requires a secure fenced yard in his new home. Jacob sleeps through the night in his doggy bed in the people room. He really loves to chew his dog toys and would do best with someone home most of the time to make sure he plays safely and doesn't confuse other household items for his toys. If you are interested in meeting Jacob the first step is to complete our meet and greet application at https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms We require the application, home and reference check and meet with everyone in the home. Jacob is neutered, UTD on vaccs, chipped, and HW-. His adoption fee is $375 and we do not adopt outside of Colorado.January 2, 2026, 7:25 pm

Story
Nora was found as a stray and is an 8-year-old sweetheart who's all about love and affection. She enjoys being close to her people, soaking up pets, and sharing quiet, happy moments. Gentle, loving, and easygoing, Nora would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a calm, affectionate friend to call their own.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2620129##

Story
Q, in his essence is a Latino gay gentleman! Loving, a little sassy :) LOVE: couch buddy, walk on leash, car rides, hike off leash, returns when called, dog parks, potty trained, all shots valid 2-3 yrs, healthy, 17lb, 10yrs He came to me 2yrs ago, was considered "challenging dog" - I took him bc I'm a vanlifer and could provide time/energy to train him. We've done well, now ready for a home that can give him a bit more space than a van (apt/house both are great) CURRENT NEEDS: some body handling sensitivity remains. For washing him, walk in shower is great. He doesn't like nail trims and tooth brushing, but loves dental treats! I'm happy to share all I've learned. He will do amazing w someone who is willing to build trust and continue train. TRANSPARENCY: he has bit me in very early stage bc I tried to bathe him w/o proper knowledge. He now enjoys warm shower on his body bc I educated myself. It's often the humans, not the dogs!
