Little Johnny is a 10lb unique, adorable mutt. We are guessing he is Dachshund/Chihuahua/Cattle Dog/Boston Terrier/Pug mix? He has an adorably long body with short little legs and a squished little face. We hope his forever family does a breed test on him because he is so cool! Johnny was dumped in a parking lot in Texas. He was so confused and terrified the first week, that the person who found him said he wouldn't eat and was completely shut down. We can't imagine what was going through his little mind. He made his way to CO to prevent him from ending up in a shelter. He has settled in here and is doing very well in his foster home. Johnny's foster has fostered almost 100 dogs for us, and said he is the sweetest, most loving, and affectionate dog she has ever had. Just like when he was dumped, he was terrified at first, but attached to his foster Momma pretty quickly. He is definately a dog who bonds quickly and needs someone who can reciprocate the immense amount of unconditional love he has to give. He gets along great with other dogs but doesn't seem interested in playing with them, yet(?). He gets along amazingly well with cats and loves cats. He would do great in a home with another cat as his best friend. He also loves to play with cats. Johnny gets along well with kiddos but since he is a nervous little guy we think older kiddos would make him most comfortable. Meet Cotton! This sweet Dachshund mix couldn't be more beautiful if she tried! At just about 2 years old and 15 lbs, Cotton is the perfect size. She is believed to be a Dachshund / Beagle mix, though we do not DNA test rescue dogs so this is just an educated guess by the vets. She certainly no question is a Dachshund mix - the weenie dog look is very present in this cutie!! We rescued Cotton from a small Arkansas shelter, where she had just had 7 puppies who all were sent to another local rescue. Cotton was left at the shelter waiting for her turn, and we knew we had to take her! Cotton is very friendly, and great with other dogs. Her foster had the following to say about her: "Cotton is SO incredibly sweet! She LOVES meeting new people, and loves my (male!) roommate! I could tell she was a little confused when she first came home with me, but she was still so so so friendly and sweet. She loves to cuddle, and sleeps in bed with me." Cotton will do well with any loving person who's invested in spending time with their dog. She's so pleasant and portable that she can be a part of any adventure. It can be a leisurely walk, a picnic in the park or a visit with family or friends. A car ride is also always great, especially if it leads to a fun, dog-loving spot. At day's end, a spot on or beside the bed all night will speak to the loving nature of this little dog. Current research is very clear that the best diet we can provide for our pets is a fresh, human grade diet. Farfel's recommends Chi Diet (chidog.com) due to our personal experience with our own dogs. It's one of the most important choices we make for our dogs great health and longevity. Congratulations, you just found the best dog EVER!!! Seriously... we are all SO obsessed with Berry! Berry is a 4 year old, 23 pound little mystery mix with the most gorgeous, bright blue eyes you’ve ever seen. We and the Texas vets believe she may be a Dachshund / Husky / Chihuahua / Cattle Dog mix, although we do not DNA test our rescue dogs, so her breed is simply a best guess based on her appearance. Whatever she is, we know one thing for sure: Berry is absolutely perfect! Berry is incredibly friendly, super social, playful, super silly, and really just the sweetest thing! She knows no stranger and loves every new person she meets. She also loves other dogs and is really just a social butterfly! Berry's story is one of those that makes absolutely no sense. She was picked up as a stray in Houston and ended up in a very crowded, high-kill shelter. She was such a sweet and friendly girl that she actually made it out of the shelter's general population and into their adoption section, which gave her a chance to find a home. Unfortunately, adoptions are incredibly difficult at this particular shelter, and after a week without finding an adopter, Berry was placed on the euthanasia list. She had done absolutely nothing wrong. She was simply running out of time because no one had chosen her. Thankfully, we learned about Berry and rescued her with literally two hours to spare. We still cannot believe this wonderful little dog came so close to losing her life when she is exactly the kind of dog who should have been scooped up by a family and loved immediately. From Berry's foster: "Oh my god, I didn't know a PERFECT foster dog was a thing!!!! We love her so much! I think she is potty trained, but it's hard to completely confirm that yet since it's been just under a week that she's been here. She only has had 1 accident and it was on her first day home, which is typically normal even with a potty trained pup. She is so friendly and loves to snuggle. My roommates and I have to take turns snuggling her. She is super super silly and the queen of play bows. She gets these little tiny zoomies where she doesn't really run, but she just spins in a cute lil circle. She is so cute and so fun!" Berry does have some areas of hair loss along her body from dermatitis that has been treated. This is unfortunately something we see very frequently in dogs rescued from the Houston area. Dogs who have spent time as strays in the extreme Texas heat, without consistent nutrition, veterinary care, flea prevention, or protection from the elements, can develop dry, irritated skin and poor coat condition. Luckily she has been fully vetted, and is totally healthy. With some time and good nutrition, (she currently gets salmon oil on her food for her skin and coat and we will send her home with some as well) her coat to continue improving and growing back beautifully. Farfel's would like to see Berry in a home that includes her in family time and fun activities (and some lap or couch-time with belly rubs would be absolutely perfect!) as well as taking that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement / force free virtual or in-person obedience classes. These classes successfully teach a smart and cooperative dog like Berry the skills to accompany her family out into the world with excellent behavior. Mando is an approximately 1 year-old, 24-lb basset/heeler mix. He was found as a stray in New Mexico where no one came looking for him. He's sweet with humans and dogs, but he is also mouthy and still learning his manners. Because of his mouthiness, we recommend a home with no kids under age 12. We also think he would do best as an only dog or with an older doggy sibling who can set a good example for him. He has not been tested with cats, but we don't think he'd be a good fit with them. Mando has been showing great progress with his house training but he still has accidents when his humans don't notice his subtle cues that he needs to go or when he gets too excited to hold it. He has not been intentionally marking in his foster home. He is still figuring out leash-walking and sometimes stops walking altogether until he can be coaxed to continue. Since he doesn't yet potty on leashed walks, he requires a secure, fenced yard in his new home. Mando should also have someone home most of the time as he is still learning to distinguish shoes and furniture from his chew toys. When his people are home, he only chews on his dog toys and is responsive to appropriate redirection. He sleeps through the night either on his doggy bed or on the couch.
