Hi, I'm Nora! I'm an 8 year old girl that is special needs. I have diabetes insipidus which you can read more about online but basically it is not treated with insulin. Currently I am on a medication for it twice daily and it seems to be helping. I'm a sweet girl but not a fan of other animals so I'm looking to be your one and only. What do you say? Take a senior girly home and love me forever.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2620129##

Q LOVEs: couch buddy, walk on leash, hike off leash, returns when called, car rides, dog parks, potty trained, all shots current, healthy, 17lb, 10yrs He came to me 2yrs ago, was considered "challenging dog" - I took him bc I'm a vanlifer and could provide time/energy to train him. We've done well, now ready for a home that can give him a bit more space than a van (apt/house both are great) CURRENT NEEDS: some body handling sensitivity remains. For washing him, walk in shower is great. He doesn't like nail trims and tooth brushing, but loves dental treats! I'm happy to share all I've learned. He will do amazing w someone who is willing to build trust and continue train. TRANSPARENCY: he has bit me in very early stage bc I tried to bathe him w/o proper knowledge. He now enjoys warm shower on his body bc I educated myself. It's often the humans, not the dogs!

Meet Waffles!!! Waffles is the sweetest girl you’ll ever meet, and all she truly wants is companionship and a cozy spot next to you on the couch. She is the perfect couch potato — happiest when she’s snuggled up with her people — but don’t let that fool you! This little lowrider is surprisingly athletic when she wants to be. One of Waffles’ most charming traits is her adorable “smile.” It may look like a growl at first glance, but it’s actually her happy face — her way of saying she’s excited to see you! And just wait until you see her beautiful eyes… one look and you’ll be completely smitten. Waffles is fully potty trained and has had zero accidents in the house. She sleeps wonderfully in her crate at night, goes in without hesitation, and settles right down until morning. During the day, she prefers lounging on the couch, a bed, or a comfy dog bed rather than hanging out in her crate. She’s still building confidence on leash and is especially nervous around cars. Because of that, she may bump into you while walking and will need continued patience and encouragement. The good news? When she finds her rhythm, she does an excellent job heeling. With consistency and love, she’ll only keep improving. Waffles would do best in a home without small dogs. She’d be happiest with a dog her size or larger — or she’d be perfectly content soaking up all the love as your one and only. Don’t miss your chance to meet this short, adorable, sweet-as-pie girl (or should we say sweet as waffles?). She’s ready to find her forever couch and her forever person. ##2660791##
