Story
We acquired Toasty in 2016 from Gentle Jungle located at 470 Lewis Ave, Meriden, CT 06451. He is currently 9 years old, he is very active and prefers to run around. He will follow you EVERYWHERE, he is very much a lover and will not leave your side. We want him to have a home where he can relax and rest, he has had a prior incident involving his back where it was suspected he was developing IVDD although he acts normal and walks normally. If he can be in child-free environment that would be much preferred. He needs constant attention as he will bark. He is definitely a lover, he won't leave your side for anything, he also LOVES to play and he loves his toys and also his walks. He is a shy guy around other dogs but other than that he really is expressive and very funny!

Story
"LOVE HEALS" Reishi, a 1 year old neutered Dachshund mix, has overcome incredible adversity to become the loving companion he is today. Rescued from a Tennessee hoarding case, Reishi's early life was marked by neglect, isolation, and overcrowding. Reishi's start in life was far from ideal. Reishi's fosters have witnessed remarkable growth, and he's now ready for a forever home where he'll continue to blossom as a loyal and loving friend. Reishi is truly a remarkable boy. Initially, he may require gentle interactions, avoiding sudden movements, and close proximity. However, once he's deemed you safe, Reishi's true personality shines: happy, goofy, and affectionate. Consistent training, and socialization will help Reishi build trust and confidence.  With his unique long legs, courtesy of his Min Pin mix heritage, Reishi loves to run. He thrives around other dogs and would do best in a home with a doggo sibling(s), Reishi loves being part of a pack! He loves outdoor adventures, walks, and playtime. Older kids (8+) who respect personal space are ideal, while Reishi's curiosity requires a cat-free home. This intelligent pup is always eager to learn and please. He is treat-motivated and thrives on positive reinforcement.  By adopting Reishi, you'll not only gain a loving companion but also provide a second chance at a happy life.  Click HERE for Adoption Application: pawsrescueleague.org/adopt Adoption fees vary based on the dog and are not negotiable. As a small rescue that does not receive government funding or grants, we rely on adoption fees to stay afloat. Adoption fees help cover the following: vaccinations, wellness exams, heartworm/4DX testing, parasite prevention, spay/neuter (age-appropriate), microchipping, transport expenses, and other rescue-related overhead/administrative costs. Paws Rescue League, Inc is an all-inclusive rescue that does NOT only rescue puppies and young, healthy dogs.  We make a point to also rescue seniors, dogs with special needs, moms, and other “less desirable” dogs, knowing that we will likely incur higher veterinary expenses and that these dogs may take longer to get adopted.  As such, an individual adoption fee is not only reimbursing PRL for expenses directly related to that dog, but it is also helping us to continue our mission of taking in dogs that would otherwise be too much of a financial burden to save. We believe that ALL dogs deserve a second chance. Thank you for your support and understanding! ##2083262##

Story
Meet Athena, a super cute 3 month old female dachshund/Australian Cattle Dog puppy!  She looks like she may have some lab in her as well. Athena and her siblings (Orion, Alastor, and Guinevere) were born to mama Mystic on 11/16/2024. We expect them to grow to medium sized dogs (mom is about 19 lbs, we don't know anything about dad).  Athena is a typical happy, playful puppy who loves everyone! She is a social girl and is good with dogs, cats, people, and kids. Young puppies are like blank slates who, with proper training and socialization, will grow into wonderful dogs! Athena is medically up to date (age appropriate) and is ready for her furever home!  She is doing great with potty training and walks well on a leash. She is a VERY good girl and has so much love to give. Apply to meet this sweet girl today! &#226&#151&#143 Energy level: low (on crate rest) &#226&#151&#143 Potty trained: needs assistance &#226&#151&#143 Fenced yard needed: no &#226&#151&#143 Shared walls ok: no &#226&#151&#143 People: all &#226&#151&#143 Dogs: friendly with small dogs &#226&#151&#143 Other: special needs with mobility and bladder expression   Overview Meet Printz, a sweet 5-year-old red smooth coat dachshund who's looking for a special family to cherish him. At 17.2 pounds, this loving boy proves that good things come in medium packages! Despite facing some mobility challenges, Printz maintains a wonderfully positive attitude and has a heart full of love to share.   Environment Printz is seeking a patient and nurturing home where someone can be present most of the time, as he gets a bit anxious when left alone. While he's currently on crate rest due to a back injury and needs help with mobility, he still enjoys the simple pleasures in life. He does well walking with assistance using a sling and is perfectly content in homes without a yard. He's well-behaved in his crate when his family needs to step out, but he can be vocal so shared walls are probably not a good idea. His reasonable energy needs and gentle nature make him an excellent companion.   Pets & People Printz is a very loving dog who thrives on human connection and wants nothing more than to be near his person. While initially shy, he quickly warms up to show his affectionate personality. He's a social butterfly with other small dogs and does very well in multi-dog households, but is untested with children or cats. He can be vocal around larger dogs, but this is likely due to his size and mobility situation. He's gentle when taking treats and very food-motivated, which makes him easy to bond with.    Health Printz has some special medical needs that require a dedicated family. He currently needs assistance with bladder and bowel expression due to his back injury. He can take trazodone as needed to help manage any discomfort or anxiety. His mobility requires some extra support, and he uses a sling to help him walk comfortably. These needs are manageable with the right care routine, and his sweet personality makes it all worthwhile.   Location Printz is available for adoption from Gastonia, NC. Due to his special needs, he would prefer a home within a reasonable driving distance, as he can find long car rides challenging. Story
Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying.   &#226&#151&#143 Potty training: trained &#226&#151&#143 Dogs: bonded with sister Lady Ava and they will need to be the only dogs in the home &#226&#151&#143 Fenced yard: preferred but not required &#226&#151&#143 Shared walls: suitable &#226&#151&#143 People: all (not tested with kids)   Overview Meet Asa, a sweet and devoted 12-year-old pup weighing 16 lbs with a handsome tan coat. He came to Little Paws with his sister Ava when their previous owner could no longer care for them, and now they're looking for their perfect retirement home together.   Environment Like his sister, Asa enjoys moderate activity and does well on walks. While a yard would be nice, it's not essential. He can live in shared spaces but potential neighbors should know he is very enthusiastic about mealtimes and treats, and he's working on his "indoor voice" when excited about dinner. He's typically quiet throughout most of the day, though.    Asa is housetrained but he does best with a consistent schedule to prevent stress-related accidents. He isn't a fan of being picked up, which can be challenging for car rides or stairs. His ideal home would be mindful of this and be patient with his preferences. Asa and Ava share a crate at night, which shows how bonded they are. Like his sister, Asa's more relaxed in the mornings and early afternoons, getting a bit more active in the evenings. Asa can become more vocal and restless in the evenings and is currently taking supplements to support this.   Pets & People Asa is the ultimate devoted brother - wherever his sister Ava goes, he's right behind her! While initially shy with new people, he takes his cues from Ava and warms up beautifully once he sees she is comfortable. He hasn't been tested with children yet. When it comes to other dogs on walks, he's generally easygoing, though he might join in if his sister starts barking. During more anxious moments, he finds comfort in long-lasting treats, puzzle toys, and of course, his sister's presence.    Location Asa and his sister Ava are available for adoption from Salem, MA. Their combined adoption fee is $500. Asa settles well in the car once situated in his bed so some travel is ok. Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying.   &#226&#151&#143 Potty training: trained &#226&#151&#143 Dogs: bonded with brother Asa and they will need to be the only dogs in the house &#226&#151&#143 Fenced yard: preferred but not required &#226&#151&#143 Shared walls: suitable &#226&#151&#143 People: all (not tested with kids) Overview Meet Lady Ava, or "Ava" for short. She is a sweet and incredibly affectionate pup weighing 14 lbs with a lovely tan coat. She came to Little Paws when her previous owner could no longer care for her and her brother, and now they are looking for a loving lap to call their own. “ She’s a sweet senior who will melt your heart with her affectionate nature”   Environment Ava enjoys a moderate activity level with short walks and playtime. While she'd appreciate a yard, it's not essential for her happiness as she’s great on the leash. She's well-mannered in apartments or shared living spaces, being fairly quiet and respectful of her surroundings. She's quite content being left alone, making her a great companion for those with regular schedules.   Pets & People Ava is a true people person! She absolutely adores humans and will press her whole body into you for pets and attention. She's never met a stranger she didn't like and is incredibly gentle when taking treats. While she hasn't been tested with children yet, she's shown nothing but sweetness with all the people she's met. However, Ava would do best with her brother and her as the only dog in the home, as she can be nervous around larger dogs during walks and did not like sharing the attention with a third dog in the house.   Quirks & Personality This affectionate girl is the ultimate cuddle bug – she'll happily spend all day in your lap if you let her! She's quite submissive and frequently asks for belly rubs, which makes her utterly endearing. Ava is a gentle soul at mealtime, taking treats politely and enjoying her food at a leisurely pace. She tends to be more relaxed during mornings and early afternoons, with a bit more energy in the evenings. While she can be slightly nervous at times, human companionship helps her feel secure. She handles car rides well, settling down in her bed without fuss.   Location Ava is available for adoption from Salem, MA and the combined adoption fee for Ava and Asa is $500. Story
Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. Requirements: &#226&#151&#143 Energy level: medium, loves exploring fenced yards   &#226&#151&#143 Potty trained: mostly, with occasional accidents &#226&#151&#143 Fenced yard needed: yes &#226&#151&#143 Shared walls ok: yes &#226&#151&#143 People: Prefers female only home; no children &#226&#151&#143 Dogs: very social, loves to play with toys; needs a friendly dog buddy       &#226&#151&#143 Other: blind, needs patient guidance Overview Meet Marley, a charming 11-year-old black dachshund with a heart of gold! At 15 pounds, this sweet boy proves that you don't need sight to see love – his joyful personality and enthusiasm for life shine through in everything he does. A professional blanket burrower and champion snuggler, Marley brings happiness to everyone he meets. Environment Marley is looking for a home with a fenced yard where he can safely explore and adventure. While he's blind, he doesn't let that slow him down – he just needs a little extra patience as he learns new spaces. He uses his crate as a safe home base and would benefit from consistent routines to help him navigate his environment. He's very content being left to his own devices, making him an adaptable companion for working families. Pets & People This social butterfly enjoys having dog buddies and loves to play! Due to his vision loss, Marley will need slow introductions to other dogs and time to learn their social cues and boundaries. Marley is a ladies' man and would prefer living in a female-only home. He's comfortable around adults, though he may do a quick head turn if surprised by a sudden touch – just his way of saying "Oh, hello there!" Marley is quite the enthusiastic eater – he loves his food and eats very quickly but has mastered the art of using a slow-feeder bowl to keep his mealtimes happy and controlled. Health Marley is in good health, taking just a joint supplement to keep him comfortable. While his blindness requires some special considerations, he's adapted beautifully and navigates life with remarkable confidence. He may need some extra support during car rides, preferring to be held or safely secured in a crate. Location Marley is available for adoption from Richmond, Virginia.
