Sonnie is the charming, independent gentleman of this bonded senior dachshund duo. At 13 pounds, he’s all personality, confident, friendly, and endlessly lovable. He enjoys affection on his own terms and is happiest lounging on soft pillows beside his beloved Roxie, often with calm music playing in the background. Sonnie is social and friendly with other dogs and seems to want to be everyone’s friend. He knows his name and responds well to commands like stay and come. When it’s time to go outside, Sonnie makes his needs very clear, he whines softly and heads straight to the door. Snow doesn’t bother him much, and he’ll proudly do his business even in the deepest drifts before deciding it’s time to go back inside. He’s a protective little guy too, when there’s a loud noise, Sonnie instinctively positions himself in front of Roxie. At bedtime, he happily goes into his crate (when Roxie goes first). Sonnie wears a belly band indoors due to marking behavior and does best with consistent routines. He also has a sensitive stomach, so maintaining the right diet is important for him. Donnie and Roxie are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. They rely on each other for comfort and security and thrive as a team. Roxie is the sweet, affectionate half of a bonded senior dachshund pair. At just 10 pounds, she’s a true lap dog who loves cuddles and being close to her people. She’s a quiet girl who rarely barks, but when she does, her surprisingly big voice makes her an excellent little watchdog! Originally from St. Thomas, Roxie prefers warmth over cold and snow. She has claimed the back of the sofa by a sunny window as her favorite spot for naps when she’s not seeking pets or reminding you it’s mealtime. She enjoys neighborhood walks, has made doggy friends along the way, and will politely let you know when she’s ready to head home. Roxie knows her name and listens well to commands like stay and wait. She and her companion Sonnie are crated at night and settle in easily, often heading straight to the crate on their own when they’re tired. She communicates her needs clearly; when she has to go outside, she’ll pace and make soft grunting sounds. Once you learn her signals, she does very well. Most importantly, Roxie is deeply bonded to Sonnie and is rarely far from his side. She waits for him, looks for him, and feels most secure when they’re together. This sweet, young boy was found running the streets on his own. He had no collar and no microchip and no owner ever came forward to claim him. He is very friendly and very smart and only 13 pounds. We think he is close to a year old. He loves other dogs, cats kids, horses… He never meets a stranger. He will make a great addition to any family and would really love to have another playful fun dog around. For Sarah, this past Christmas was filled with fear, cold, hunger, and loneliness. You see, right before the holidays, Sarah's family moved. Sarah did everything right. She was a good girl. She watched excitedly as they loaded all of their most treasured possessions on the truck, and drove away. They didn't even tell her goodbye. She thought they would be back to get her, so she waited. And waited. And waited. Days turned into weeks and they never returned. What should have been their most valued possession, was simply discarded like garbage. They didn't even care enough about her to give her a name, only calling her 'Little Dog.' Thankfully, a kind hearted neighbor scooped her up before she could freeze. The neighbor has been workiing with her, teaching her how to be a dog. Most importantly, they are teaching her that she is valued and safe. This is what her foster (the neighbor) said about her:'She’s house broken and has good manners, very people and food oriented, and I had no issues bringing her in despite the signs of abuse I could see. There was a short adjustment period with my other two dogs, but after maybe a day she loved them. She plays and cuddles with both my big and small dogs. She loves cats and is actually very good with them. She also LOVES to snuggle with people. Her previous owner had a child and she seemed to be good with them as well. She is shy with new people at first, but is easily won over with treats and kindness. She has not shown any aggression at all, she would just try to hide at first, until she realized she was safe. Once comfortable, she will be your shadow if you let her.' She is spayed, UTD on vaccines, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.  Sarah is located in Arkansas.
