Story
This adorable little girl is Bella. She is a one-year old dachshund mix and weighs just 13 lb. Bella is at a foster home, not at our shelter. Her foster says "Bella is very shy and takes some time to warm up to her person. She is very inquisitive and prefers to be inside. She does well with pee pads and can stay home alone for periods of time. Bella plays well by herself." Bella's ideal home is with a single woman who she can connect with and become that person's little doll. Bella is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and healthy. Her adoption fee is $440. Jackson Bio Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. &#226&#151&#143 Energy level: medium &#226&#151&#143 Potty training: pee pads (does not go outside) &#226&#151&#143 Fenced yard: not needed &#226&#151&#143 Shared walls: Barks when foster leaves for about 30 minutes; would do best with someone home more often than not  &#226&#151&#143 People: good with older children, shy at first with adults; protective of his foster mom &#226&#151&#143 Dogs: all &#226&#151&#143 Other: currently requires GI diet, will need weight loss diet soon, good in car when in seatbelt  Overview Looking for a snuggly companion who will steal your heart? Jackson the dachshund might be your perfect match. Jackson is a 5-year-old piebald brown and white dachshund who weighs 21 lbs. He was surrendered by his previous family who had a baby on the way and felt they could not give him the attention he craves. And Jackson does love attention—he's the kind of pup who gets incredibly attached to his person and thrives on being close to you. He's also absolutely adorable when he gets excited about his leash, grabbing it in his mouth as if he is ready to walk himself (even though he's not much of a walker once you're actually outside). Environment Jackson is an indoor guy through and through. He is currently using pee pads and doesn't do his business outside, so he will need a family committed to continuing indoor potty solutions. The good news is he does not need a backyard and is quiet enough to be ok in a pet friendly home. He currently barks for a little bit when first left alone, but he’s settling in so we’re keeping an eye on the situation. Currently, we believe he would do best with someone that works from home. Jackson is very content and happy to lounge around the house and entertain himself. He loves using doggie stairs and would happily spend all day on the couch if you let him. He's a bit of a digger and can be quite curious, getting into things within reach, so keeping an eye on him is important. He is not a fan of being crated and will escape an X pen. Jackson doesn't need or want a crate for hanging out at home, and he enjoys short walks or playtime to keep him active without overdoing it. He is learning to love toys too!  Pets & People Jackson can be a bit shy when he first meets people, but once he warms up, he's a sweetheart. He does well with older children and will bond deeply with his family. With strangers, he takes his time to feel comfortable but isn't aggressive—just a little reserved and can be a bit protective at first. Jackson is wonderful with other dogs! He is curious about dogs he meets on walks and has spent time with another dog in his foster home, getting along beautifully and even following them around. He enjoys the company of canine friends and would do well in a home with or without another dog. Health & Special Needs Jackson is currently on a GI diet to keep his tummy happy and will be transitioning to a weight loss diet in about a month. He was used to eating human food in his previous home and is still adjusting to dog food—wet food works better for him than dry, and he's not quite eating full meals yet. But when it comes to treats? He jumps up and down with pure excitement! Jackson tends to whine and scratch when crated during car rides and does better when in a dog seatbelt. Location Jackson is available for adoption from Miami, FL. Please email juliejohnson@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Jackson is $375.00.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 30, 2026, 4:30 pm

Story
&#226&#151&#143 Energy level: low-moderate &#226&#151&#143 Potty trained: needs assistance &#226&#151&#143 Fenced yard needed: no &#226&#151&#143 Shared walls ok: no &#226&#151&#143 People: no young children &#226&#151&#143 Dogs: friendly with small dogs &#226&#151&#143 Other: special needs with mobility and bladder expression   Overview Meet Printz, a sweet 7-year-old red smooth coat dachshund who's looking for a special family to cherish him. At 17.2 pounds, this loving boy proves that good things come in medium packages! Despite facing some mobility challenges, Printz maintains a wonderfully positive attitude and has a heart full of love to share.   Environment Printz is seeking a patient and nurturing home where someone can be present most of the time, as he gets a bit anxious when left alone. While he's currently on crate rest due to a back injury and needs help with mobility, he still enjoys the simple pleasures in life. He does well walking with assistance using a sling and is perfectly content in homes without a yard. He's well-behaved in his crate when his family needs to step out, but he can be vocal so shared walls are probably not a good idea. His reasonable energy needs and gentle nature make him an excellent companion.   Pets & People Printz is a very loving dog who thrives on human connection and wants nothing more than to be near his person. While initially shy, he quickly warms up to show his affectionate personality. He's a social butterfly with other small dogs and does very well in multi-dog households but is untested with children or cats. Therefore, only applicants with older, considerate kids will be considered. He can be vocal around larger dogs, but this is likely due to his size and mobility situation. He is food aggressive and eats his meals and treats in his crate. He's happy to go in the crate and comes out when the other dogs in the home have finished their food. He will growl and nip if disturbed when he has food or a valued toy.    Health Printz has some special medical needs that require a dedicated family. He currently needs assistance with bladder and bowel expression due to his back injury. He can take trazodone as needed to help manage any discomfort or anxiety. His mobility requires some extra support, and he uses a sling to help him walk comfortably. These needs are manageable with the right care routine, and his sweet personality makes it all worthwhile.   Location Printz is available for adoption from Gastonia, NC. Due to his special needs, he would prefer a home within a reasonable driving distance, as he can find long car rides challenging. Please email autenlinda@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee is $150.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 12, 2025, 6:43 pm

Story
Sammy Bio   Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying.   • Energy level: medium • Potty training: trained • Fenced yard: no but does need frequent potty breaks • Shared walls: no  • People: no young children • Dogs: good with slow moving dogs that will respect his space • Other: Sammy does well when he wears a soft cone; it helps him to navigate his surroundings as well as gives him a barrier in his personal space.   Overview   Meet Sammy, a beautiful ~10 year old, 10 lb golden-coated dachshund who proves that love sees beyond physical limitations.   Sammy came to Little Paws as a stray found in Miami, but this sweet boy has nothing but affection to give. Despite being somewhat visually impaired due to cataracts, Sammy navigates the world with his heart wide open and is absolutely craving human connection and love.   Environment   Sammy is a gentle soul who enjoys short walks and playtime. He’s potty trained with regular potty breaks, doing best with a consistent routine. He’s great on the leash and loves his walks. Sammy is not a fan of the crate and does bark when left alone. He needs a home without shared walls. This love bug just wants to be near his people! His happy place is the sofa, left to relax without interruption.   Pets & People   Sammy is incredibly sweet with adults and older children, but he wouldn’t suit living with young children as he can be easily startled. He has shown some guarding of his space but after recent eye surgery his disposition has improved. Sammy doesn’t like to be moved when he gets comfortable and is best when left alone in "his space". He will need an adopter willing to let him be in his happy place; he will come to the human for affection on his own terms. Because he is easily startled and needs this space, he would be ok as an only dog or with another small, calm dog. His nature makes him wonderful with patient family members who understand his needs. Due to his vision, he’s very gentle around food and needs to be guided to his food and water bowls, but he manages beautifully once he knows where everything is. Sammy has come a long way since the shelter and has recently discovered his love of squeaky toys and has developed a bond with his foster sibling, Cosmo, a small easy going doxie mix.   Health   Sammy has cataracts that cause visual impairment, and he recently had eye surgery to repair a lens. He sometimes bumps into things and needs gentle guidance to his food and water bowls, but he manages well. Wearing a soft cone helps him to navigate his home. He tries to use potty pads but can not always see them. He takes a joint supplement, omega for his skin, and probiotics. He is on a low fat diet and must continue on this food. His visual challenges don’t slow down his loving spirit one bit.   Location   Sammy is available for adoption from Miami, FL. Please email siriad81@aol.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Aspen is $250.00. Story
Please ensure you understand and can meet the needs of this dog before applying. Energy level: low Potty training: mostly, occasional accidents due to mobility Fenced yard: not needed Shared walls: suitable People: all (not tested with children) Dogs: all Other: some health needs Overview Looking for a sweet senior girl who loves her veggies and afternoon naps? Sally the dachshund might be the gentle companion you've been searching for. Sally is a 10-12-year-old long-haired black and tan dachshund who weighs 17.6 lbs. She was surrendered by her previous family when they were moving and had a newborn baby. Sally is the definition of a couch potato—she's perfectly content to snooze on her favorite bed all day (bonus points if another dog joins her for a cuddle). Her foster mom absolutely adores her adorable waddle walk and the sweet routine of Sally waiting by the fridge at bedtime for her cucumber slices. Yes, this girl has refined tastes and knows what she likes! Environment Sally is a low-energy girl who is very content being left to her own devices. She doesn't need a crate and is happy lounging around the house. She's quiet enough for a home with shared walls and doesn't require a backyard. Sally is mostly potty trained and goes outside to pee, though she does have occasional poop accidents inside, likely due to her weak hind end. She has limited mobility and can only walk about a block before she's tired—her walk is more of a waddle due to her back-end weakness and being overweight. She would not be a good fit for a family looking for a walking buddy, but she's perfect for someone who wants a sweet companion to relax with at home. Pets & People Sally is wonderful with all people and doesn't pay much attention to strangers—she's very chill and unbothered. She hasn't been tested with children but has shown no issues with the adults she's met. Sally gets along great with other dogs! She currently lives with 5 other dachshunds in her foster home and does well with all of them. She doesn't actively seek them out to play, preferring to snooze on her bed, but she loves it when another dog shares her bed with her. She's gentle and calm around food and treats, never pushy or aggressive. Health & Special Needs Sally has had mammary tumors removed in the past, and ultrasound showed an enlarged liver (but no liver disease) and a couple of small spots on her spleen. Could be nothing but will need another ultrasound in 3 months.   She is currently overweight and on a weight loss plan with Wellness Healthy Weight food. Her foster mom supplements some of the kibble with green beans, which Sally absolutely loves. She also loves cucumbers and carrots for snacks and has already lost a pound. Sally takes allergy supplements, joint supplements, and skin supplements to keep her comfortable and healthy.   Her hind end is weak, which affects her walking and occasionally causes potty accidents. Her vet has recommended physical therapy, which would help strengthen her back legs and improve her mobility. Despite these challenges, Sally gets around just fine and is a happy girl who just needs a patient, understanding family who can give her the care she deserves.  Location Sally is available for adoption from Bryn Mawr, PA and travels beautifully in the car, lying quietly for 5-6 hours if needed, making her ride to her forever home a breeze. Please email cathyn@littlepawsdr.org with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Sally is $250.00.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 2, 2026, 8:54 am
