Miss Betsy is a dear middle aged girl who is determined to be a Chiweenie and one of the sweetest we have ever met. You can see in her face that she just wants some place to land and someone to love again after her owner passed away and left her and her 9 year old Aussie boy behind. The two were like Frick and Frack as far as the boy Aussie was concerned. Miss Betsy has landed on her feet when dropped at the shelter and she was just fine when Critter Cavalry found her a temporary foster home. She is 6 years old and weighs 12 pounds and found herself at a local small town shelter when her owner died. None of the family would do the right thing and step forward to help care for her and her big Aussie brother who weighs 45 pounds. She has shown herself to be a well rounded girl who loves young children and all other people. She is good with other dogs and is still trying to overcome some insecurities about her new life. She still feels a little vulnerable since she has not been in her foster home for very long. She will bark at things that startle her like most dogs will do. She is pretty much housebroken and will bark in her crate. It would be easier for her to stay in a bathroom with a pee pad while her new owner is gone than to be in a confining crate. She has never been crated. Could she sleep in your bed? She would love that! Could she ride places with you and be your bestie and sidekick in adventures....YOU BET! Meet slinky fka Eli! Eli is a sweet, laid-back about 7-8 year-old little dachshund mix looking for his forever home through absolutely no fault of his own. He came to us from an over crowded shelter where he spent a couple months being nursed back to health by a loving foster home. He has blossomed into a happy, loving companion and continues to carry that same personality in his RDR foster home. Slinky fka Eli is housebroken, walks beautifully on leash, knows his basic commands, and has wonderful house manners. He loves being with his people, getting attention and belly rubs, and curling up on a dog bed. He has done wonderfully with other dogs and cats. He is also crate trained. Eli is heartworm positive, but Real Dog Rescue will cover the cost of his treatment. This little guy is truly a wonderful companion—affectionate, easygoing, smart, and eager to please. Meet Flap Jack! Flap Jack came to RDR after tragically losing his owner at around 7–8 years old. Understandably, he’s confused and sad as he adjusts to this huge change. He is used to living in a single adult home with few visitors. At 25 lbs, Flap Jack is currently working on a weight-management and exercise plan with a goal of losing about 5–8 lbs. No one told Flap he’s carrying extra weight. He still likes to run and be on the go. Once he bonds with you, he wants nothing more than to be by your side 24/7. He is experiencing some separation anxiety right now and will need a patient adopter who understands that he has been through a lot. Flap Jack is overwhelmed by children and teens, so we are looking for an experienced, adult-only home—ideally a quiet home without children visiting regularly. A single person or couple who is ready to give him the time, patience, structure, and love he deserves would be ideal. He may need some time to decompress and learn that his person isn’t going anywhere, but once he trusts you, he is ready to be your little shadow. Experienced adult-only home ONLY. We believe she is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix and has many personality traits that we think will appeal to the Chihuahua people out there. This girl is not only beautiful, but is also housebroken, crate trained and knows several commands. She'd also be perfect for those hot summer months and cold winter months, since though she loves to be outside, she's not super fond of lengthy walks. Once she chooses her person and bonds she's silly, playful, cuddly and loyal, the perfect work from home companion who loves to sit on your lap and help with whatever you are doing. She's not a fan of other animals, children, or strangers especially men although she's been able to make friends with them if they ignore her at first and offer lots of yummy treats- intros have to be slow and on her terms.
