Meet Mater! 🐾 Mater is an adorable 3-month-old Dachshund mix weighing around 12 pounds. He’s a sweet, happy, playful little guy with lots of puppy energy and a personality that will keep you smiling. Mater’s journey into rescue happened completely by chance. His foster mom stopped at a little roadside produce stand to pick up some tomatoes, and there he was. They needed someone who could take him, and one look at that sweet little face was all it took. He came home with her that day, and since a stop for tomatoes brought them together, the name “Mater” seemed pretty perfect! 🍅❤️ Mater is now settling into foster life and doing great. He gets along well with other dogs and is also good with cats. He is very playful and loves having four-legged friends around, although he’s still learning his puppy manners and may enthusiastically invite everyone to join in the fun! Like any 3-month-old puppy, Mater is still teething, so he’s learning what is and isn’t appropriate to chew on. He’s also off to a great start with house training and is making good progress as he settles into a routine. Mater loves to play, explore, and be part of whatever is going on around him. He’s curious, affectionate, and still discovering just how much fun life can be. He’ll need a family who understands that he’s still a puppy and is ready to continue helping him learn and grow with patience, consistency, and lots of love. His owner would let him out into the backyard and then allow him to roam the neighborhood. This was a violation of the adoption contract, and Buddy ultimately came back to the shelter. FHDR found a foster for Buddy and had him transported to NJ. Buddy didn't do anything wrong. He was simply failed by the person who was supposed to keep him safe. Now Buddy is hoping for a real forever home — one where he will be loved, cared for, and included as part of the family. And Buddy has so much to offer! ❤️ 🏠 He is house trained! 🐶 He is dog friendly! 🐱 He is cat friendly! 🎾 He is playful and loves to have fun! 😊 He is friendly, happy, and affectionate! Roy is always happy, cheerful, affectionate, and ready to make friends. He LOVES everyone: people, dogs, cats, and he loves playing with a tennis ball. He’s also incredibly cuddly and affectionate and is the perfect little lapdog. He walks nicely even with people he has never met before. He is great in the car and comfortable in busy environments too. Roy gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes and ages and would love to have a playful dog friend in his new home. He is also good with cats! Roy is very smart. He knows his name, listens very well, and is nearly house-trained. He knows how to use pee pads indoors but prefers to go potty outside. He is not a barker and can stay home alone without any issues. Roy would be an amazing addition to a family with children, even toddlers, and could also be a great dog for a first-time dog owner. 🚨 Dachshund Army, Mocha needs your help! 🚨 Only 3 1/2 years old, her life was forever changed when she was recently hind end paralyzed due to the dreaded doxie IVDD. Sadly disc issues are the price the breed pays for those adorable short stubby legs and long backs. She was on medication but did not regain function, and we weren’t contacted to take her in until a week after her injury, too late for surgery to give her a high chance of regaining normal hind end function. She’s seen a neurologist and is on strict crate rest right now- there is still some chance she may improve over time since it was a very small disc with minimal compression on her spinal cord, but we have to have to move forward with the expectation the damage is permanent. She’s no longer in any pain and can still live a long happy quality life as a wheelchair dog with the right person and a lot of extra care. She’s a gentle sweet small standard dapple longhair, 16lbs, loves her squeaky toys, likes other small gentle dogs and is coping her with crate rest and lifestyle change as well as can be expected. She is incontinent but has been cooperative having her bladder expressed and being cleaned, and hasn’t been leaking between expressions as long as done regularly. We are urgently seeking a longer term foster or adopter able to stay on top of her care to make sure she doesn’t get sores or urinary tract infections. Mocha is a lifestyle choice not to be entered into lightly, but promises to reward you with years of loyalty and trademark doxie kisses and long-nosed nuzzles. Thanks to our partnership with Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge she was able to get an immediate neurology visit and MRI to explore all avenues for how best to help her.
