She’s doing amazing and making great progress on her journey to find her forever home.   **Chewing Improvement**: We’re still working on the chewing, but she’s adjusting well to her chew toys. **Potty Progress**: Nelly is going in and out to potty regularly, though she sometimes uses a puppy pad if she can't wait. **Yard Adventures**: While she’s still a bit hesitant to come back inside from the yard, she’s getting much better at going out by us! **Growing Affection**: Nelly has started to play more and loves coming up for cuddles when we’re sitting down. She’s a little nervous when we stand, but her curiosity is growing, and she’s starting to explore what we’re up to instead of just scurrying away. **Response to Name**: She’s also beginning to respond well to her name, which is such a wonderful sign! **Excited Greetings**: Nelly is now the first to greet us at the door with tail wags and excitement when we come home—it's the best welcome ever! **Couch Snuggles**: She’s getting big on couch snuggles too!   Nelly is a sweet girl with so much love to give, and I know the perfect family is out there waiting for her. Story
This little girl is part of our Olympic crew — five siblings rescued together from the streets of Guánica, Puerto Rico. At just 2½ months old and about 5 pounds, she’s happy, healthy, and thriving. After being lovingly fostered in Puerto Rico, she and her four siblings began their own Olympic journey – flying to Miami and then traveling by car all the way to New Jersey, where they are now safe and ready for forever homes. It was a long trip for such little pups, but they handled it like gold medalists. Each pup is named after an Olympic hero. This sweet girl is Laila, named after a member of the Women’s Gold Medal Olympic Hockey team, and she carries that same determined, champion spirit. Though small in size, she’s big in heart — playful, affectionate, and wonderful with kids. She loves to romp around and then snuggle up close. From surviving on the streets of Puerto Rico to making the long journey north, our Olympic crew has proven they are fighters. Now, Laila is ready to win the greatest gold medal of all — a forever family of her own. March 7, 2026, 9:31 am
