Story

Rocky is a sweet, playful pup who loves fetch and cuddles. He had a rough start in life due to his birth defect that left his hind legs paralyzed. Despite his difficulties, he definitely knows how to enjoy life to the fullest! He doesn’t know he is any different than his foster brothers and makes friends with everyone he meets. He loves kids, cats and dogs and never meets a stranger. His hobbies include running outside in his wheelchair and playing inside in his scooter. His care usually consists of snapping him into his mobility devices and letting him go. He wears belly bands inside since his bladder control is slightly limited due to the paralysis. Luckily, aside from this he is house trained and tells you when he needs to go potty. His temperament is very calm for a puppy, though he will experience the zoomies on occasion and burn some rubber in the yard!  He is a very happy pup and can’t wait to go to his new home! Hannah is a 3.5 year old, 93 lb Rottie/Dobie mix. Please don't let the breed mix concern you. Hannah is a is a big, beautiful, friendly, happy, sweetheart of a dog! Hannah was in a happy home, but her person was transferred overseas, and he couldn't take her with him. We promised him that we would find a wonderful home for Hannah. She is settling in very nicely at her foster home. She gets along great with other large dogs, but maybe not so much with very small dogs. She could easily be an only dog, too. Hannah loves her people, and would do best in a home where her people are not gone for long periods of time. She has excellent leash manners and would make a great walking, running or hiking partner. She also loves squeaky toys, belly rubs, and her big comfy bed. She loves to chase tennis balls and will actually bring them back.....sometimes. Lando has been in a foster home being crate trained and learning house manners. He is a still a puppy but at 70 pounds he is a little too careless to be around small children. All Lando wants in life is to play and to cuddle. He is very affectionate and very high energy. At mealtime, he will sit and wait for his food. Lando loves to play with balls and frisbees--he fetches and tugs. Lando has been around the foster's cat and been very gentle but if you have a cat you should bring it to meet him. Lando likes other dogs but plays rough so probably would do better with another bigger dog rather than a little.Lando doesn't do well with lots of activity so he'll do better in a quiet neighborhood and a large yard or someone with lots of land. We may send him for training so ideally he would be adopted by someone in the DFW area because his training includes a few private lessons.

Carla was adopted in October 2020 but due to Covid, the owner could no longer afford to keep her. She is very active and loves chasing balls. Carla can be protective in the house. Her ideal companion will be a submissive young male. Carla likes to be the boss. She is not crate trained and does not do well in a crate or if left alone too long. She guards her home and needs someone who understands this breed as a working and protective dog. When first meeting new people she should be approached with caution - do not crowd her. The adopter needs to let Carla approach for affection until you have gained her trust. When a dog has been moved out of a home they become wary and it takes time for them to understand the new adopter is the forever home. She will need time to adjust and trust you and she will be a lifelong best friend to you. She may not do well with younger children as they have a tendency to want to get too close to befriend a dog. Since Carla is not housed at DRNT let us know if you want to meet her so we can get her to Grand Prairie.

Skittles might be the perfect family dog. Although we haven't had her around kids, she is sweet, young and calm. She does fine with all the other large dogs and is not food aggressive. The previous owner who had her almost three years said she did not get along with their small female dog. Please bring any pets with you to meet her. She takes treats gently and will sit when asked. Skittles walked easily on leash and is outgoing and affectionate. She didn't jump up on people and loves attention. This little gal appears to be perfect for anyone who will love her, but a family with children might consider her for her gentle demeanor. !!Since Skittles is not housed at DRNT, let us know if you want to meet her so we can get her to Grand Prairie.

California aka Cali was adopted in March of 2021 and came back to us in 2022 because her owner just didn't have enough time for her. For the last 18 months, she has been living with a number of other dogs but should be in a home either by herself or with a dominant male. She has also been called Princess and as such she is too bossy with female dogs of any size. Her previous adopter said that Cali is affectionate and likes toys. She is gentle indoors and will lay at your feet while you work. Cali is a little timid at first meeting but loves attention and can't resist a good neck scratch. She comes when called but will need leash and basic manners training.
