Story
Duchess was in a small, high-kill shelter when we came across her information. Her eyes were so infected that she could not open them, and the shelter had posted her as being blind. Our vet discovered that Duchess doesn’t produce tears, and the chronic dry eye had been untreated for so long that her corneas were damaged and infected. This sweet girl was initially so shut down that she had to remind herself what a special dog she is. We are trying our best to save her eyes; she gets two types of medicated drops twice a day and artificial tears as often as possible. She has learned to let her foster clean her eyes and is good about getting her drops. She is now able to see, although not as well as we hope she will as we progress. She will need eye drops ongoing. Duchess now plays with the other dogs in her foster home and enjoys running around her yard. Her very favorite thing is getting attention and spending time with her humans. She wants to devote herself entirely to her family and take care of them. This girl is a wonderful Doberman and an ambassador for the breed. She is house trained, can use a doggie door, or ask to go outside if she doesn't have one. She is fine being left home alone or with her canine friends, but would rather go wherever her human is going. She’s great at going for rides and would be the perfect travel companion. Duchess is fully vetted, current with vaccines, spayed, on flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, and is microchipped.

Story
Meet Dobby! This affectionate boy is looking for a FURever home where he can cuddle up with his person or family and play fetch. He's very smart and is already housebroken, knows no, listens well, and has a desire to keep learning what you're willing to teach him! He'd make a great partner for someone that enjoys a nice run or jog and then coming home to relax, his preferred relaxation being a nice bone to chew on. He enjoys a nice chase so probably best with no feline friends, possibly a selective canine companion, but has done well with children. If his zest for life doesn't win you over, his adorably large ears surely will! Apply to bring this big boy home today! All Abandoned Pet Project Rescue adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age appropriate vaccines upon adoption. The standard minimum donation for dogs over six months to seven years is $200, puppies under six months is $250, dogs eight years and over are $100 unless specified otherwise. You can view all the adoptable pets and fill out an adoption application online on our website at bit.ly/APPRAdoptableDogs. For more information, you can email adopt@abandonedpetproject.org.

Story
Meet Winnie! A gentle six-year-old Doberman Pinscher mix currently in Evanston, IL, whose tricolor coat and soulful eyes tell a story of cozy afternoons and quiet companionship. At around 40 pounds, she is a medium-sized girl who has perfected the art of relaxation, often found curled up in her dog bed or basking in a sunny spot like it is her full-time job. Winnie brings a calm, easygoing presence to daily life, with little bursts of playful energy that make her love for tennis balls and squeaky toys shine! She is wonderfully trained and eager to connect with her people, already knowing commands like sit, stay, down, come, shake, and off. She is crate-trained, house-trained, and comfortable spending long periods on her own, making her a steady and predictable companion. This lovely girl thrives on routine, belly rubs, and peaceful environments. Winnie is especially affectionate with the people she knows and trusts, and she tends to feel more at ease around women. She is compatible with other dogs in a neutral, easygoing way, happily coexisting without needing constant interaction. However, she is not compatible with cats and would do best in a child-free home where her environment can remain calm and structured. Winnie would benefit from a patient and attentive pet parent. When it comes to new people entering her space, she can feel unsure and would benefit from slow, thoughtful introductions. In the past, she has had a few instances where she reacted by nipping when her warning signals were missed. These moments did not result in serious injuries, and with attentive care since 2023, her caregivers have successfully managed her responses through positive reinforcement, structured greetings, and giving her space when needed. Winnie currently requires daily medication to help manage her anxiety and skin comfort, and she handles this routine like a pro! Her favorite moments include lounging in warm sunlight, stretching out in the funniest sleeping positions, and quietly keeping her favorite humans company throughout the day. She offers a special kind of companionship that feels peaceful, loyal, and deeply comforting. If you are someone who appreciates a low-key, affectionate dog with a sweet spirit and a love for the simple things, Winnie may be the one to share your days with! Could Winnie be the calm, loving presence your life has been missing? To learn more or begin the adoption process, please reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com.
