Meet Searchlight!Just like her name, Searchlight has a bright, bold personality that lights up every room. This energetic, intelligent girl is always ready for her next adventure and loves having both her mind and body engaged. Whether it`s hiking, learning new skills, or playing with her favorite people, Searchlight is happiest when she has something to do.Searchlight is a strong dog who will thrive with an experienced, confident adopter who can continue building her manners and provide consistent guidance. She is still working on her training, and enrolling with a professional trainer is highly recommended to help her become the best companion she can be.As a stray, Searchlight`s history is unknown, so we are taking introductions thoughtfully. If you have another dog, a dog-to-dog meet at the shelter is required to help determine compatibility. Because of her confident personality, dominant dogs may not be the best fit for her. If you have cats, a Dogs Day Out trial will be required before adoption. Because Searchlight may be inclined to chase, dog-savvy, confident felines would be the best match.Searchlight may also do well with respectful children who understand how to interact appropriately with an active, strong dog.If you`re looking for a smart, active companion and are ready to invest the time and training she deserves, Searchlight has the potential to become an incredible lifelong friend. Come meet this shining girl and see if she`s the perfect addition to your family!

Story
Theo is a 5-year-old bundle of enthusiasm who is ready to find a home of his own! This handsome guy came to us as a stray, so we don’t know much about his past or how he does with kids, cats, or other dogs. What we do know is that Theo absolutely loves people and life in general, maybe a little too much sometimes! While we continue learning more about Theo, we think he would do best as the only dog in the home for now, as he seems uncomfortable around other dogs and could benefit from more socialization and confidence-building. Theo currently has a case of “happy tail,” which happens because he gets so excited that his constantly wagging tail smacks into walls and surfaces, causing it to bleed. The good news is that this usually clears up quickly once dogs are in a calmer home environment. He’s simply too happy for his own good!Theo’s giant stuffed pickle is his absolute favorite toy and constant companion, he proudly carries it everywhere he goes like it’s his best friend. Theo is Lyme positive, which is very common in Maine dogs, but it doesn’t slow him down one bit. He’s young, active, and full of energy. He is also incredibly strong and will need an adopter who is prepared to work on leash manners, because right now he tends to pull hard on walks out of pure excitement. Training and consistency will go a long way with this eager guy. Theo is the kind of dog who throws his whole heart into everything he does, especially wagging his tail, and he’s hoping someone out there is ready to keep up with him!

Story
Gus came to us as a stray, and it was clear from the moment he arrived that life has not always been easy for him. He was extremely nervous when he first came in, and while he has been making progress, Gus will need a patient, understanding adopter who recognizes that trust takes time to build.Gus is a strong dog physically, and he will need an owner who can confidently handle him and provide the structure and guidance he needs to feel secure. One thing that helps him start to come out of his shell is treats—Gus enjoys them and they can be a great way to begin building a positive relationship with him.Because Gus came in as a stray, we have no known history of him living with other dogs or cats. Any potential canine housemates will need to come to the shelter for a meet-and-greet to help determine compatibility. Slow, thoughtful introductions will be important for any new animal companions.Any children in the home must be teens or older, to ensure that Gus is given the space, time, and respect he needs to blossom. Most importantly, Gus needs a family willing to give him time. He may not settle in overnight, and he will need patience and understanding as he adjusts to a new environment. He has not had an easy life so far, but for the right person, helping him learn that the world can be a safe and positive place will be incredibly rewarding.

Story
Sophie is a 6yr old beautiful 90lb female german shepard that I took in because a friend couldnt care for her anymore and was going to send her to the shelter. She is such a smart, sweet, and playful dog and it will be hard to let her go but I also have another female german shepard that ive had since 8 weeks old who does not want to share her family. She barks at Sophie to show her who's in charge and though I've tried to make them love each other , it's been over a year and things aren't changing. I also have cats that I can tell Sophie is not used to and chases them. The perfect home for Sophie would be if she was the only animal. She likes to be very active so that would require someone to go on frequent walks and she loves to play ball, she catches it every time :). I really do not want to give her up but I think it would be best for her not to be barked at and be able to have that one on one attention she deserves. She has unknown allergies & takes Apoquel which works well.
