Story
Rescued him from someone that couldn’t have him anymore. They had too much going on to properly care for him and he needed a new home asap so I took him in. I just recently had an unexpected change in my work schedule and am working more hours now. He deserves a home that has someone home more!!! He is just over 2 years old. I was told from the previous owner that he has always been around other dogs (small and large) and cats. They never had an issue with either. Also has been around kids (infant and older) his whole life. He’s potty trained. He loves to play! He loves to snuggle! He’s 82 lbs and a lap dog if you let him! He’s a total sweetheart. He needs some manners help… he will eat any food that he can reach. Needs some training on a leash or better yet someone that can train him to not have to be on a leash or someone with a big, fenced in yard for him to run and play! I wish I could keep him but it’s not fair to him now that I’m working more hours and gone more.

Story
* RUGER IS NOT AT UPAWS *Ruger is an 8 year old German Shepherd. He is the best adventure buddy, and lives for the outdoors, hiking, running, the lake, and snow especially. His favorites are sticks and tug a war, could happily play fetch all day. Ruger loves people, any chance to hangout with you on the couch, or outside he is there. He rides well in the car, not reactive to loud noises/storms. Good with younger children, teens, young adults. Has not been around cats before. He is good with dogs as long as they have been introduced properly. After a good exercise, he is a relaxed guy who just wants to be near you!If interested please contact Chloe at 734-790-8380 or chloeselkhoury@gmail.com!

Story
Meet Gus Gus is a 1 year, 8 month old male Red Heeler (Australian Cattle Dog) with a tender heart and a gentle soul. This handsome boy can be timid and unsure when meeting new people or facing new situations, and he needs a patient, understanding home willing to give him the time he needs to feel safe. But once Gus trusts you — oh, what a transformation. He blossoms into a joyful, loving, happy companion who absolutely adores his people. Expect sweet kisses, excited jumps of happiness, and a loyal best friend by your side.Gus seems to do well with other dogs. Because Heelers are a herding breed and may try to “herd” with gentle nipping (it’s instinct, not aggression), he would do best in a home with older children who can understand and respect him.Gus is a multiple-meet dog. Due to his timid nature, potential adopters should plan to visit him multiple times (at least two or more) so he can slowly build comfort and trust. We also ask that you bring your entire household — including any resident dogs — to the meet and greet, and we’ll go from there at Gus’s pace.About the breed: Australian Cattle Dogs (Heelers) are incredibly intelligent, loyal, and devoted to their families. They thrive when they feel secure and connected to their people, and they are known for forming deep, lifelong bonds. With patience, love, and reassurance, Gus will reward his family with unmatched loyalty and companionship.? Sponsored Adoption ?Gus’s adoption is generously sponsored by Kenny’s Corner Store of Marquette, Michigan. Because of their kindness, Gus’s adoption fee is fully covered and includes his neuter, vaccines, microchip, health check, and more.Thank you, Kenny’s Corner, for helping Gus find his forever home If you have a gentle heart and a little patience, Gus just might be your perfect match.

Story
Buffalo has come a long way or the past year. I can`t even imagine what his life was like before he was rescued. He was found tied up outside not being fed. His first few days at UPAWS his bowel movements were sand. He has put on about 30lbs. He lived with two dogs while with me. They have passed. We have been together 1 year. He is food driven , but not food aggressive. I use treats as a training tool meeting dogs. He has been perfect in the house. Buffalo is a INDOOR dog. He does not counter surf or dig in the trash or yard.. He does not get on the furniture or beds. He knows sit and lie down. He has free roam of house. I have never had to try a kennel. He is extremely affectionate towards people and seeks affection. He walks well on a leash. He is reactive to some dogs when meeting. He does eventually warm up to some. Its something we are working on. Buffalo has a good recall off lead. Needs to be on lead when other dogs are around. Once he knows a dog he does well. This is a difficult decision. I love Buffalo, he is my best friend. I have serious health issues and need to find him a loving home that will spoil him and give him a loving home he so much deserves ? Buffalo has a vet appointment on 12/29/25 for his yearly check up/vacancies.**** Buffalo is not at Upaws*****If you are interested in Buffalo please contact:MarkPhone number: 906-440-2726Email: treadomt@gmail.com

Story
Frankie is a 13-month-old, medium-sized mixed-breed girl bursting with happy, wiggly joy and love for her people. She’s ready for a fresh start and a bright future in a loving home. The former owner shared that Frankie may be a mix of Walker Hound, Cane Corso, and Labrador Retriever, giving her a wonderful blend of athleticism, loyalty, and affection. Frankie also has a beautiful silver coat with white markings and a sleek, short coat that truly makes her shine. If you sit down, don’t be surprised if this sweet girl climbs right into your lap for kisses and eye contact — Frankie is deeply people-oriented and loves being close. Her tail rarely stops wagging, and her cheerful personality shines wherever she goes.Frankie’s favorite things include tennis balls, frisbees, plush and squeaky toys, rope toys, and games of tug and fetch. She’s an active young dog who enjoys walks, jogs, swimming, car rides, and then happily settling in for some cozy couch-potato time with her favorite humans.Frankie is a smart, sensitive girl who is still learning about the world — especially other dogs. She has begun doing buddy walks at the shelter and is already showing wonderful progress. With continued positive experiences, short greetings, and calm guidance, Frankie is learning good dog-to-dog skills and growing more confident every day. Our team will be happy to talk with you about how to continue helping her succeed.Frankie is affectionate, playful, eager to connect, and full of potential. She’s looking for a loving home ready to enjoy her fun spirit while continuing to guide her as she grows into the amazing dog she is meant to be.If a meet is scheduled, please bring your whole human and dog household so we can help ensure a great match for everyone. If Frankie sounds like your kind of girl, please fill out an Adoption Interest Form at upaws.org to get the ball rolling.Frankie’s adoption is proudly sponsored through our new partnership with Wildflower Homes / Wildflower Development Group LLC, who sponsor an adoption for every home they sell in Marquette County, and by Wes Somogy in loving memory of Robert “Bob” James Somogy — a deeply cherished companion whose love lives on by helping another dog find a home.
