Story
* RUGER IS NOT AT UPAWS *Ruger is an 8 year old German Shepherd. He is the best adventure buddy, and lives for the outdoors, hiking, running, the lake, and snow especially. His favorites are sticks and tug a war, could happily play fetch all day. Ruger loves people, any chance to hangout with you on the couch, or outside he is there. He rides well in the car, not reactive to loud noises/storms. Good with younger children, teens, young adults. Has not been around cats before. He is good with dogs as long as they have been introduced properly. After a good exercise, he is a relaxed guy who just wants to be near you!If interested please contact Chloe at 734-790-8380 or chloeselkhoury@gmail.com!

Story
Meet Cheech — a goofy, 3 and a half year old, puppy-like sweetheart with a big personality and an even bigger heart! He came to the shelter as a stray and was immediately ready to make friends, play games, and soak up every bit of attention he could get.At the shelter, Cheech has shown himself to be a smart, affectionate, and incredibly enthusiastic dog who throws his whole self into life. Whether he’s zooming around, proudly carrying toys, or checking in for pets and treats, he approaches everything with joyful energy and charm.Because Cheech is such an active and intelligent guy, he’s still learning how to slow down and settle when he gets excited. Like many young-at-heart dogs, he can sometimes get overstimulated and slip into “puppy brain,” especially during playtime. The good news is that he’s very trainable and responds wonderfully to positive reinforcement, structure, enrichment, and consistency.Cheech would thrive with adopters who enjoy interactive dogs and are excited to continue helping him build confidence, impulse control, and relaxation skills. He loves enrichment activities, training games, sniffy walks, food puzzles, and learning new things. He’s the perfect candidate for someone who wants a fun best friend to adventure with and bond closely to.Because of his size and excitement level, Cheech would likely do best with older children who can help support his training and boundaries. If there is another dog in the home, we recommend bringing them in for a meet-and-greet to ensure a good fit. He’s not looking for perfection — just patient humans who understand that goofy, high-energy dogs sometimes need help learning how to channel their excitement appropriately. In return, Cheech will give you endless entertainment, loyalty, and love.If you’re looking for a hilarious, affectionate, intelligent companion with tons of potential and a heart of gold, Cheech might just be your guy.

Story
Tater is the kind of dog who comes into a room with his whole heart first — wagging tail, goofy grin, and absolutely convinced you might be his new best friend. This strong, playful guy loves attention and isn’t shy about asking for it, happily climbing into laps for kisses and leaning into people for affection. He’s energetic, silly, and full of personality. Toys are a favorite, especially if he can toss them around dramatically before inviting you to join the fun. During his assessment, Tater showed a loose, wiggly body, lots of play bows, and a very social, people-focused nature. He enjoys interaction and clearly thrives when he has exercise, enrichment, and someone to share life with.Tater previously attended training classes and already has a nice foundation to build on. He’s very food motivated, eager to engage, and appears to enjoy learning. His former owner made the difficult decision to surrender him due to declining health and feeling they could no longer give Tater the activity and exercise he deserves. When it comes to other dogs, Tater can get overly excited and enthusiastic in his greetings. He may enjoy some dog friends more than others, and slow, thoughtful introductions will help him be successful. Because of his strength and excitement level, he would likely do best with older or dog-savvy kids who won’t be easily knocked over during one of his happy “full-body wiggle” moments.Tater is goofy, affectionate, playful, and clearly loves his people deeply. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will make you laugh, keep you active, and greet you every day like you’re the best thing he’s ever seen, Tater might be your guy.

Story
Meet Boomer Boomer is a handsome German Shepherd–Border Collie mix (50/50 DNA tested) who is ready to find his forever home. He’s a truly good boy with a big heart — and once he decides you’re his person, he is all in.A little about his personality:Boomer is sweet, sensitive, and affectionate. He loves nothing more than climbing into your lap for snuggles, leaning against you, and soaking up every bit of love you’ll give him. He’s a gentle soul who just wants to be close to his people. He can be a little cautious at first — he may bark when new visitors arrive or react to unfamiliar dogs — but with a slow, patient introduction, he warms up beautifully. He’s not reactive to his neighbors’ dogs and has lived happily with other dogs before. He just appreciates being given a moment to get comfortable at his own pace. He’s smart and well-trained:Boomer listens really well and already knows sit, down, stay, back, and spin. His intelligence (hello, Border Collie genes!) means he’ll thrive with an engaged owner who enjoys training and interactive play. His favorite things:• Swimming• Fetch with a frisbee or ball• A good game of tug• His cozy crate covered with a blanket — his safe havenA few things to know:Boomer has a managed respiratory condition and takes one tablet of Temaril P every other day — roughly $20/month through an online pet pharmacy. He does well on it and it keeps him comfortable. He would do best in a smoke-free home. He’s also still on a weight-loss journey and will need some continued support there. He’s not a fan of baths, towel drying, or nail trims — but hey, nobody’s perfect! What Boomer needs most:A patient, loving home that will give him slow introductions, a cozy crate space, plenty of play and activity, and the snuggles he so clearly craves. He’d do well with a dog-friendly companion and will thrive with someone who appreciates a sensitive, devoted best friend.Boomer has been waiting for the right match. Could that be you?

Story
* LIZZIE IS NOT AT UPAWS *Lizzie Lou is a sweet girl that loves to give kisses and “hugs”. She does well at our family camp off lead and loves to run with her other doggo friends. Her favorite toys are power chewer toys and loves turkey slices and string cheese! She can swim but prefers to just wade and lick up the water. She prefers to be the only dog around in her own home. Our old man dog is having a hard time keeping up with her desire to play. Cats are things to chase for Lizzie Lou so most likely a home with no cats or cats that don’t care Lizzie is around. Little kids might get knocked down from all her love she gives.Lizzie has been recently spayed and is up to date or her shots. We take Lizzie on daily walks to help with getting the zoomies out. If she has a toy to chew on, she’s the happiest girl around. Sometimes she’s possessive of those toys and her food. We’ve worked with her as best as we can but sometimes she will let out a growl if you try and take away a toy. We redirect with a treat and then can take away the toy.She is a sweet girl that just needs a different environment to blossom which I know with the right family, she will.If interested please contact Chelsea at 906-202-9792 or chelsea.prunick@icloud.com!
