Story
Hello my name is Dakota. I am a two year old shiba inu. I am up-to-date on my shots, neutered and microchipped. Recently my loving owners have passed. I am looking for a new forever home. I have lived with another dog and cats , but would not be recommended with smaller animals. I enjoy Frisbee and chasing squirrels and birds from my yard. I know basic commands and am working on consistency. I enjoy children and attention. I am still very excited to see visitors and am trying to learn to be patient and not jump up.

Story
Jolene was born around June 24, 2022 and weighs about 20-25 pounds.  Jolene came to us from Kentucky with the one hour at a time volunteer transport team and a very kind overnight foster person.  Everyone along the way adored her as we do now! Jolene did have a home in Kentucky with the town drunk and he tossed her out the front door and said he "wanted her gone".  A kind neighbor called her over and kept her until she could get her into the hands of another kind person and then she, tearfully, loaded her in the first transport car to come here to us.  She is very sweet and affectionate and really loves to be carried (good thing she's little) and snuggled with and have her belly rubbed.  Jolene rides well in the car and LOVES to wrestle, play, run, with other dogs and she does need another fun playmate in her next life and a large enough, physically fenced, safe area in which they can release the energy she has.   She is also a very good swimmer.  This is all we know so far and we will be learning as we go!  The Adoption Fee for this dog is $500.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a "complete" pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Pet care and vet bills are expensive - you must be ready to take on this financial (as well as emotional) responsibility. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 25 YEARS OF AGE TO ADOPT A DOG FROM JOYFUL RESCUES   We keep our pet list as up-to-date as possible. As soon as a pet is adopted, it is removed from the list. If a pet is still showing, it is still available for adoption.   Can't Adopt Me?  SPONSOR ME Look for the Link "Special Instructions to Seller" if you want to note a particular pet Before you seek to adopt a pet from Joyful Rescues, please read our Pet Adoption page http://www.joyfulrescues.org/pet_adoption.html. Story
Greta was born about March 6, 2023 and will likely top out in the 35 lb. range.  She is as good-humored and happy-go-lucky as they get! She's fantastic with the other dogs, thoroughly enjoying her time running and playing with them. Greta also did splendidly on her two-hour car ride to the main site after her transfer to Joyful Rescues from the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, which sought assistance from local rescues due to dangerously high overcrowding.  Greta seems to be on the quiet side which we love.  She does fine on leash and has met just a bit older kids and thought they were a lot of fun!  As for breed....she looks like a shrunken, blonde, Shepherd and, perhaps, there is some Husky in there somewhere along with a few other fun mixes.  She couldn't be cuter or a better size!  Greta may be a bit of a diamond in the rough, but without too much effort she will likely become your 'best dog ever'!  Greta has become a very strong swimmer! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $_550.00_. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. In general our fees include spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccines, Home Again micro-chipping & registration, worming & flea control - a 'complete' pet. We accept CASH or Visa/Mastercard ONLY.    Joyful Rescues has no funding except for our adoption fees and miscellaneous donations. Story
Kevin was born about December 10, 2022 and will likely top out about 75 lbs.  We were contacted by a neighboring city humane society that has been overwhelmed for some time on a consistent basis due to the current drastic over population of dogs in the greater western NY region and somehow Kevin landed there and was stressed by the noisy and chaotic environment and was not showing well to the general public.  When this happens the volunteers reach out to rescues to quickly get the dog into a more normal situation.  While we admit coming into Joyful Rescues can be somewhat stressful itself Kevin walked in and felt very much at home.  As I write this he's been here less than a week and has flourished.  He loves every human he has met here and we surely fell in love with him in return.  Kevin has been very well behaved and pleasant to get to know.  He doesn't jump up on us and he does well on leash and he is a strong swimmer.  He has been perfect with all the other dogs large and small and those more his size are very fun to run and play with.  When the play is done he settles nicely.  He has done well on the few car rides that it took to get him to the main site.  At this point the only negative we've had is when he casually walked up to our small artificial Christmas tree and ever so gently plucked off one of the lighted flowers.  We didn't think much of it until we realized this cute tree we bought at a thrift shop won't light with one light missing!  Oh well, saving Kevin's life is surely worth this minor blip in our lives.  The municipal shelter he came from is so over full that they've admitted they will likely have to euthanize for space, remember Kevin wasn't showing well.  YIKES!  Joyful Rescues has become dedicated to helping dogs that are abandoned or needing a new home in this greater western NY region and someone out there that finds Kevin on our site and welcomes him into their lives are going to be very happy! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $__500.00__. Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Story
Sugar was born around January 23, 2022 and weighs about 70 pounds when done filling out.  Sugar rides well in the car and walks ok on a leash.  Sugar loves the other dogs here and can often be found playing with her friends when the humans are busy doing computer work.  Sugar is a hale and hearty young lady when playing with her dog friends. If you have an older/smaller dog in your home that is not interested in playing Sugar may be a bit annoying for them.   Children should be fine but smaller kids may get knocked over.  Sugar is so deserving of a happily ever after and we are determined to find that for her!  UPDATE: SUGAR LOVES TO SWIM! The Adoption Fee for this dog is $400.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability. Story
In Memory of Papa Ouderkirk   'I have always had a huge heart for all animals, but especially cats. We even adopted two cats from Joyful Rescues: Leia and Lucy. Lucy is actually one of the cats that came from a transport, and when I saw how small and weak, she was, as well how she always scarfed down every meal as if it would be her last, I felt terrible for her.  I would like to name this transport “The Papa Ouderkirk Memorial Transport” in memory of my grandfather, who passed away in 2019 due to lung cancer he was a lover of cats as well'. - Christianna Reynolds  Freebie was born around August 04, 2019 and weighs about 20 pounds.  It seems Freebie came from a puppy mill or backyard breeding situation.  She ADORES other dogs and is happy and playful with them.   Freebie wants to love us humans and will walk up to us but runs in fear when we try to touch her.   Freebie has never been aggressive to human touch just extremely fearful.  Freebie must have a secure fenced in yard and another playful well socialized dog in her next home.  It is going to take some work and patience to show Freebie that humans are wonderful but the outcome will be well worth it for you and for Freebie .  Please do some reading on working with mill dogs before applying to adopt Freebie.  Update:  Still no human has touched this girl, but she will come within a few feet of the human she sees the most.  When she gets near I smile, wave, and say her name and she wags her tail, but will run immediately if I move toward her.  I'll keep working on it.  She does use the dog door freely and does come into the TV room with the other dogs and two humans in the evening, but she looks around, plays with another dog and then she is off doing more dog things.  Freebie does shed. The Adoption Fee for this dog is $450.00 Adoptions fees vary based on adoptability.
