Story
New Hanover County, NC animal control reached out to Feline Matchmakers with an SOS for Kricket. She was surrendered to the shelter by people who "couldn't afford" to keep her anymore. Unfortunatley for Kricket, this was a tragedy. She was completely freaked out in the small cage and could not be handled by staff. At a shelter, this only means one thing. So we jumped in and brought her in to our care. With a vet visit and some blood work, we found she had pancreatitus. We treated her and it made a world of difference in her attitude. All health issues have been resolved! Kricket was adopted in to a home with no other cats, her preference. She gave comfort and joy to an elderly lady (who recently passed away) and her caretaker daughter, but now the daughter can not keep Kricket for various reasons. Kricket is now available for adoption again. In order to reduce her stress, we have left her in the daughter's care and will hold meetings for Kricket in her "foster home." Kricket needs a nice, calm household, preferably with no other pets. If there are other pets, they need to be the kind that will ignore her and give her space. Kricket is a dominant female and won't take any smack from others. As an only cat, she is loving and chatty at times. She will require patience in adapting to a new home though; she's not instantly comfortable and will need a few weeks. We would prefer to have her in a Foster-To-Adopt situation for an approved applicant. All Feline Matchmakers cats get age appropriate vaccinations, fixed, tested and microchipped prior to adoption. Story
Gorgeous Thistle came from a recluse in the area.  His feral cat gave birth to who knows how many and we insured Thistle is the last.   She was a wild little thing at first but now Foster mom says: “Thistle is a very quiet little kitty. I have yet to hear her meow, but she will purr for chin scratches. She is very shy of strangers and will probably dart away from you if you just try to reach in and pick her up. We are working on the picking up is okay aspect of kitty life. She is very food motivated, loves her Churu and freeze-dried chicken pieces. She loves to be held once you pick her up and she loves her back and chin scratched. She absolutely loves crinkle balls and those large glittery pom pom toys. She really hasn't found a toy she doesn't like.  She plays really well with Lil' Dude. She is very curious and very playful kitty. Litter box trained. Thistle is 4.5 months old and vetted.   She is currently at a foster home in Evergreen, but she is still very shy.  Complete a cat application at www.eapl.com - once approved, you can visit and choose the kitten best suited to you and your home.   January 31, 2026, 1:36 pm

Story
This cat is recommended as a Barn Cat because we have observed that s/he appears to be unfamiliar and uncomfortable with people. We believe that this cat is accustomed to living, likely with other cats, in a protected outdoor environment and may enjoy living in a barn or other outbuilding. Because, upon adoption, the environment will be a new one for this cat, there is a specific five-week acclimation process to help this cat remain safe in his new home. We recommend adopting another cat for companionship during and after this acclimation process. In time, this cat may even warm up to new people and may later enjoy time and attention.

Story
Olive is a sweet, spunky 7-year-old with soft, fluffy black fur and stunning green eyes. A staff favorite and proud member of our Lonely Hearts Club, she’s playful, energetic, and just a little mischievous (Okay maybe she's a bit more than a little bit... But who doesn't love mischief?)! Though she had a rough start in life, she’s now full of personality and ready for a home of her own. Olive is not a fan of other cats or dogs and would thrive best in a home with no small children, we recommend 10 and up for Olive. Olive is diabetic and requires twice-daily insulin, special food, and regular glucose monitoring. While she can be a bit selective with new people, once she warms up, she’s full of love, headbutts, and kisses. Come say hello—you might be just who she’s been waiting for!
