Story
Moxie was rescued after being abandoned by a former tenant, and at the time, she was pregnant. She safely delivered her litter, and all of her kittens have since found loving homes. Now it’s Moxie’s turn to be someone’s baby. She is an absolute people cat — affectionate, gentle, and happiest when she’s soaking up attention. Moxie loves cuddles and will gladly accept pets and love from just about anyone. If you’re looking for a sweet companion who enjoys being close, she’s your girl. She’s a simple lady with simple tastes — not very interested in fancy treats or toys, just good company and a cozy spot near her humans. Moxie has not yet been spayed. We are heartbroken to rehome her, but we are moving and unable to find housing without pet restrictions. Our biggest wish is to find her a safe, stable forever home where she’ll continue to receive all the love and affection she thrives on. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to a truly loving cat, Moxie would love to meet you.

Story
Our precious Lucy needs a loving home. She was born with an amazing personality that is naturally trusting and friendly. As a baby kitten, she would walk with confidence straight toward any voice in the the room. She was just a tiny fluff ball back then, who loved everyone and she was easily adopted at a young age. Over time, changes in the household led to a separation of her owner and partner. Lucy went to live with the partner who eventually lost touch with the owner. Fast forward a few years later, Lucy was recently found in a stranger's yard, begging to come in their house. The kind samaritan took her to Animal Control who contacted us via her microchip. We contacted her owner who explained that Lucy had not lived with her for some time and had no way of reaching the ex from where Lucy went missing. The rightful owner then without hesitation went and saved Lucy from the pound, but is not in a position to keep her and has asked us for help with rehoming. Lucy is still the same tiny sweetheart that she always was. She still loves and trusts, despite whatever she went through to find herself homeless. We will likely never know what happened in that time, but we are still here for her and committed to making it right. All thanks to her microchip. She was examined at the shelter and determined to be in great condition, so we think she was not lost much longer than the 2 weeks we know of (per the good samaritan). She is happy to be safe and ready for the next chapter of her life. Lucy has a wonderful personality. She is gentle, affectionate, and loving. She is now 10 years old, and full of life as ever. The shelter vet thought she was much younger, as she is still petite and very healthy. She is good with kids and dogs, and knows how to fit herself in easily as she has maintained her natural confidence. If you are a sucker for a beautiful, black, long hair with gorgeous green eyes that look up at you adoringly, then please don't hesitate to inquire about this special little girl. She will be a loyal and loving companion who appreciates and deserves a good home.

We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Meet Mister Mustache – A Distinguished Gentleman with a Big Heart Mister Mustache is a truly special soul—a dapper, long-haired gentleman with a one-of-a-kind look and personality to match. With his striking mustache markings, charming meow, and impressive resilience, he’s sure to steal your heart. This sophisticated tripod has adapted beautifully to life with three legs. Despite his front-left amputation, Mister Mustache navigates his world with confidence and grace. He’s also FIV+, but remains in great health and continues to thrive in his loving foster home. Mister Mustache is a cat who values trust and connection. Once you've earned a place in his heart, expect tender interactions, soft meows of conversation, and gentle nudges asking for chin rubs and ear scratches. He even enjoys having his luxurious fur brushed—turning grooming time into bonding time. He’s also blossoming into a furniture companion, often lounging nearby and occasionally testing the waters of lap life. His communication is crystal clear: when he's had enough pets or play, he might give a gentle warning nip to let you know. For that reason, he’s best suited to an experienced cat guardian who understands feline body language and boundaries. Mister Mustache prefers the quiet life—he’s not looking for feline roommates and would do best as the only cat. A calm dog might be a fit, but what he truly wants is a home where he can feel safe, understood, and adored. His favorite treats? Freeze-dried minnows and duck! His favorite habit? Hiding when nervous—but meowing for permission to rejoin you, tail swishing with curiosity. If you’re ready to open your home to a cat with depth, dignity, and a whole lot of love to give, Mister Mustache is waiting to meet his person. Let him charm you—with one paw, three legs, and an unforgettable heart. Mister Mustache is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting him, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Adoption fees are as follows: $175 for a single cat or kitten, $225 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.

Story
Round, plump, and perfectly delightful—just like her namesake—Cranberry is sweet and a little tart in the very best way. This curvy queen has a big personality and absolutely knows how to use it. Cranberry is very vocal when she wants affection and will happily tell you when it’s time for pets. One of her signature moves is stretching out a back leg like a figure skater striking a pose, inviting you to admire her while you rub her face and belly (yes—belly rubs are welcome!). She often sticks out her little tongue and lets out happy bleeps when she’s content, which is guaranteed to make you smile. She loves catnip—and by loves, we mean LOVES it. Sprinkle some down and prepare for peak Cranberry joy. Cranberry prefers to keep her paws on the ground (or planted firmly on your lap), so she’s not a fan of being picked up and will show a bit of her tortitude if you try. Sass is part of her charm. She’s affectionate on her own terms and makes an excellent couch companion. She was found outside being cared for by a kind woman and is now enjoying the indoor life she clearly deserves. Cranberry is currently on a weight-loss journey and will need occasional hygiene shaves, as grooming herself is a bit of a challenge right now. The good news? She LOVES being brushed and does wonderfully at the groomer. Her feelings about other cats are still unknown, so she may do best as an only cat or with slow, careful introductions. An adult-only home or one with older, respectful kids would be ideal for this sassy sweetheart. If you’re looking for a cat with personality, charm, and a whole lot of attitude wrapped in a plush, kissable package—Cranberry is ready to roll right into your heart. Cranberry is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting her, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org.
